Blagojevich Arrest: Did the Feds Overreach?

Three thoughts:

Once again we have seen a Governor wiretapped. Unlike Eliot Spitzer of New York, Governor Rod Blagojevich has been arrested.

Assuming that the transcripts of the wiretaps are accurate then there is a good chance that he is going to have a hard time proving his innocence. However, what is it about wiretapping elected STATE executives and why is the federal government doing it? Why was it not referred to the state prosecutors? We now know for sure that two governors have been wiretapped — how many more elected state officials are being subjected to government wire tapping? Isn’t this more overreach by our federal government?

It is high time that the government operate above board and stick with the task of trying Governor Blagojeivch’s case in a court of law not on the news.

Two other issues also loom. My friend and employee, former Congressman Bob Ney (R-Ohio) is a convicted felon. The Justice Department leaked the facts of his case to the court of public opinion before he ever pleaded in court. This will most likely happen here as it seems to be standard operating procedure. It is high time that the government operate above board and stick with the task of trying Governor Blagojeivch’s case in a court of law not on the news.

In addition, having read the transcripts, it is clear to me that Governor Blagojevich has serious mental problems. He is grandiose and does not have much of a clear thought pattern even for someone who might have a criminal mind. If people went to the federal government about him then why didn’t try to get this man some help? It should have happened with former Congressman James Traficant (D-Ohio) who could have been the poster boy for manic illness. Everyone knew it but it took jail to put a stop to his antics.
