Down the Drain? Beware of Obama’s Plan to ‘Spread the Wealth Around’
By Betsy Newmark
High School History and Government Teacher/Blogger
If the McCain campaign can’t use this Obama quote to raise doubts about his attitude towards wealth and success, then they deserve the shellacking they seem headed for.
“Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” the plumber asked, complaining that he was being taxed “more and more for fulfilling the American dream.”
“It’s not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody who is behind you, that they’ve got a chance for success too,” Obama responded. “My attitude is that if the economy’s good for folks from the bottom up, it’s gonna be good for everybody … I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
Plumbers of the country, unite! Forget about the work and effort you put into building up a business or the scummy work that you do that many of us don’t know or don’t want to do. If you have succeeded, you should be willing to give up more of what you earn to help those who haven’t had the great good luck that you have had to be a successful plumber. Remember how Obama is going to give 95% of all of us a tax cut even though over 30% of the population doesn’t pay taxes?
He might call it a tax credit, but what he’s really doing is his vision of “spreading the wealth around.” It sounds a lot like Huey Long’s 1935 plan to “Share the Wealth.” And when he finds that he can’t tax the top 5% of the population to gain enough wealth to spread to the 95% of the rest of us, do you really think that he’ll stop with that 5%?
Remember…This is the guy who said in the ABC debate during the primary season that his approach to raising tax on capital gains is not based on whether it would provide more revenue but on his idea of what is fair:
GIBSON: All right. You have, however, said you would favor an increase in the capital gains tax. As a matter of fact, you said on CNBC, and I quote, “I certainly would not go above what existed under Bill Clinton,” which was 28 percent. It’s now 15 percent. That’s almost a doubling, if you went to 28 percent.
But actually, Bill Clinton, in 1997, signed legislation that dropped the capital gains tax to 20 percent.
OBAMA: Right.
GIBSON: And George Bush has taken it down to 15 percent.
OBAMA: Right.
GIBSON: And in each instance, when the rate dropped, revenues from the tax increased; the government took in more money. And in the 1980s, when the tax was increased to 28 percent, the revenues went down.
So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?
OBAMA: Well, Charlie, what I’ve said is that I would look at raising the capital gains tax for purposes of fairness.
Just what we need in these fragile economic times — a guy who wants to raise taxes because he thinks it’s a matter of “fairness” and time to “spread the wealth around.”
That will be some incentive for other plumbers who want to work hard and build up a successful business.
But don’t worry - according to Joe Biden, it’s the patriotic thing to do.

Obama’s first, second, and third priority is to get elected. If that means pandering to large numbers of unemployed, under employed, those on welfare, illegal aliens, and malcontents, he’ll be happy to throw them a few crumbs as a way to get their votes. He will also turn democracy and capitalism on it’s head, and villainize the affluent and successful in our society, in order to rally the masses behind him. With evangelical zeal Obama will convince his followers to replace reason with hope and belief … to blindly follow him … never challenge him … and embrace his words as gospel. In the real, and unforgiving world of economics however, when you immediately gratify everyone by feasting on the goose that lays the golden eggs, the economy looses it’s ability to continue generating growth and wealth. Obama is promising everyone a piece of the pie, whether they helped bake it, or not … but, only in a socialistic, or communist state do the non-contributors demand to share equally in the property that belongs to others. Immediate gratification is like a drug to the malcontents, but in the big picture, every farmer knows that you never eat your seed crop. If Obama gets elected, America will turn into a third world country, with massive government welfare programs, unable to generate jobs for it’s citizens, and unable to compete in the global markets. Keep America safe, free and strong … elect McCain/Palin on November 4th.
Obama is a communist! Vote for him at your own risk!!!!
Why the assumption that everyone who earns below a $250,000 is a lazy free-rider?
Ever realized how different professions pay differently?
Think that construction worker that built your house sweating in the summer doesn’t work hard enough? Think again.
Celebrities for Obama, happy to know you are ready to share your wealth with us who don’t make 250k a year. We will be happy to spend your money thanks. I only wish it didn’t take Obama to make you share your money with us. Keep making those movies so you can pay for our seats at the theater. Keep up the good work and again thank you. ;o)
As a student of history I have studied the rise and fall of socialism and communism. It is frightening to learn Obama is headed in that direction because it never works. Just study the history of world economics.
The more government is allowed to control the flow of money the less each of us has control of our own lives.
We become robots performing at the whim of the government. Those who choose not to be productive live off the backs of those who work and produce.
We have created a society where many families through generations have lived off the county, state and federal governments by taking what was once a temporary handout to a permanent handout. Never working and always complaining about ther “rights to be taken care of for life” A “from cradle to grave concept.”
My parents lived throught the depression, never taking a dole out, never getting free health care, housing or groceries and raising three healthy children. They never received retirement and worked to feed and cloth their family without government help.
Now immigrants come from all over the world and the minute they step ashore put their hand help to be taken care of by the taxes paid by those who do all the work.
Beware of socialism and communism. It does not work in the long run. Productivity and pride in ones work becomes less and less visible.

Let Obama have it. He is trying to make the white folk pay & his people continue to sit on their butts. If Obama gets in our country will suffer greatly, remember Carter years!!
This is the type of evil hate that was used before the 70’s to hang innocent people in America. Speaking of the antichrist and such is so vile and destructive. I am white and I believe in reality. Using fear tactics is demonic. People believing in McCain/Palin are like a person that gets slapped in the back of the head and turns around and slaps the first person they see. Pick the correct target, don’t be manipulated in voting against the best choice. Bush/Cheney have stolen so much it makes poor republician conservatives dizzy. Don’t let fear blind you from the facts. Obama is very qualified!
I’ve read a lot of talk on here about taxes and how Obama wants to “redistribute” the wealth. All of you are angry and upset just to think about this ridiculous idea - with very good cause - I might add. What I’m even more concerned about, however, is what he’s going to do next given his track record for changing his view on the issues. You see, almost all of the analysts and even economic advisors are saying (agreeing with McCain) that raising taxes at this time is a bad idea. What will happen is Obama is going to start feeling the pressure (especially after the debate Wed. night) and he will, like many times before, change his stance on this whole idea. Those who support him will rejoice with a renewed sense of relief, as they were even starting to feel the pressure. Those who were on the sidelines prior to the debate, but were now strongly slanting towards voting for McCain because of Obie’s “spreading the wealth” campaign will again be lured to Obie’s side.
The real problem here is that he can say what he wants right now - to get as many votes as possible, even changing his stance on this issue - but the truth of the matter is, he WILL raise taxes if he gets elected. And it won’t just be taxes on the rich. Everyone that works for a living will see their taxes increase.
The whole idea that because some individuals have more money than others, they should be punished and stripped of some of that income is completely absurd. In many cases, those people had to work extremely hard to attain what it is they have, living out what all of us call “the American Dream”. Imagine reaching that goal only to be told that a good portion of what you earn is now going to be taken from you and given to people who probably don’t even have a job, but are in good health and completely capable of working. This idealogy completely removes the drive and good feeling one gets for achieving what they’ve set out to do. If they happen to be business owners, their goals to increase business, hire more people, etc., become diminished. Thus, the entire country suffers because of it.
God help us all if Obie gets elected!
Right now the Econmy is in the toilet, mainly due to the Democrats stance on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. When Obama gets elected, the toilet will flush and the pipes will get clogged…..
How about this: The Democrats are now trying to do the same thing for the SBA they did for Fannie Mae, give money to non-qualified companies like they did to non-qualified home owners….
Better yet: A National Health Plan by the Democrats that will not only help non-citizens but make our taxes so high it make us a third world socialist country so we can get financial support from the rest of the world.
Paul Peplinski: Why on Earth should income and wealth be redistributed ? Income and wealth are primarily a function of hard work, risk, and reward. Your beliefs suggest that there is a finite amount of wealth and everyone is entitled to an equal share. Wealth is created. Your ridiculous comments underscore the fundamental difference between liberal socialism and conservative capitalism: Liberals want equality and Conservatives want equal opportunity.
The Republican attack on “spread the wealth” and before that “the redistribution of wealth” is laughable. In 2000 the top 1% of wage earners made 8% of the money. Today it is over 20%. We now have the most unequal distribution of wealth since around WWI. Raising taxes on the rich may lead to a more equal distribution of income.
What an eye opener!

Barack and Michelle Obama’s long time friends, coworkers and neighbors!
Don’t tell me they haven’t been grooming a Manchurian candidate.. and no doubt one of many!
Their blind hatred for this country is truly vile! How are they allowed access to our children in the name of education?
They have never waivered from their initiatives after all these decades and now we are witnessing the fruits of their labor accomplished through millions of dollars in grants paid with our taxes!
After Obama is elected the IRS will be busy, busy, busy with income tax evasion cases. Guaranteed
You know, we found out last week that our manufacturing plant was closing down. 150 people without jobs. 3 other plants in our area have laid off approximately 100 people each. That would be 450 people within 25 miles. Of course, there aren’t any new jobs - because we’ve sent them all overseas. Now, as we become a service nation warehousing other countries cheap goods, we are no longer an industrial nation. My 401K along with 449 other people in this area has taken a hard hit. The tax increases that Obama has proposed will do nothing for us - unless of course we all sit back and wait on our check and become a wlefare nation.
Hey Obama, if you want to run a socialist society, go to Russia.
I posted earlier inquiring about flags used as a backdrop in one of Obama’s speeches. No answers yet. Here’s the link. http://www.foxnews.com/video-search/m/21193238/obama_s_freebies.htm?q=obama%27s+freebies
If this is Obama’s personal flag it reveals tons about who and what he is. I wonder how much of that wealth redistribution will find its way into his pockets should he win?
The only people mad about Obama’s statement “spread the weath around” are the ones working and making the money….the other half are waiting for their checks. Let just hope on election day that the workers out-number the waiters. Please America, Wake up, pay attention, and get out and vote. in 4 years, Obama could destroy what has taken us lifetimes to build.
I guess if Obama wins, all the small businesses can close down, lay off their employees and wait for their checks too. I wonder if there will be any weath to spread around then….I’m thinking not.

…While you are looking up the definition of Socialism, feel free to look at examples of Socialist Countries and how they are run. If they appeal to you, vote for Obama.
——————-
Better yet: if Socialism appeals to you, find a list of Socialist countries and MOVE to one of them!! There is no reason to drag all of America down the tubes with your selfish desires to steal from those who have earned their money and success.
Socialism is un-American.
Barack Obama is a Socialist.
A vote for Obama is un-American!
If you hate America enough to vote for Obama, please do the country a favor and leave!
Vote Democrat - It’s easier than working!
Obama will Save the World!
Read about it at:
http://www.desertconservative.com/2008/10/16/obama-world-savior/
It does not make since to me to tax the wealthy even more. They already pay more taxes than the rest of us because they make more money. If I were a small business I would be VERY wary of Obama’s plan.
I’m just sickened by all the folks out there that think obamas plan will be good for the country,I absolutly resent the fact that if you make what someone considers to be too much, you will be rewarded with a 39% tax burdon. A true incentive to excel ! If you have a business with employees you will see increased employment tax,, increased business taxes, manditory health care costs, on top of the already high cost of mandotory workers comp insurance,, not to mention business & profit taxes in your own state,. At this rate the cost of doing business so high you either have to pass the xtra cost on to the consumer,or cut back on employees. losing jobs, this in not promoting growth, it is rewarding medieodracy. makes ya want to just give up & go live in a cave..!
it used to be “The Sky’s the limit” soon it will be “keep it small, or they’ll take it all”
I was also wondering, as was a previous poster, about the flags behind Obama,, Is that what our new flag will look like for the new OBAMA NATION?????
The President can veto! You are correct. Do you want someone that wants to cut costs or increase them? Do you want that veto power in the hands of someone who wants to increase govt or decrease it? What I heard last night tells me one candidate is all good with a huge Federal govt. Not good! Again, what has our Federal govt done right in the last 50 years? The President does influence laws being drafted down the street from his office. Don’t think he doesn’t!
Why is Obama leading in the polls? Your column should wake up the country. Please Fox news ,don’t cave with the rest of the media. I believe Fox as been to generous to Obama.
Dorothy
Some more comments here as I read people’s postings on the tax plans of both candidates.
Both candidates can offer any plan they want - it is worth nothing!! Why? Because the President has no authority or power, under the Constitution. to levy taxes. Regardless of who wins here, I would not hold them to their word on their tax plans. Only Congress has the power to legislate taxes, so if you feel strongly about your taxes (I do!), you should be holding your local senator and representatives accountable. Let us hold the right people accountable for their responsibilities - the President is not the person with the power to legislate economic activity - he/she only has the power to veto legislative bills. So if you want to know what will happen to your taxes payments/credits/rebates, you should ask and petition your local senator and representative - they shape your tax destiny, not the president.
Here is the relevant sections of Section 2 of Article II of the constitution laying out exactly the role and responsibility of the president. Read carefully and decide who is better qualified to fill this role.
—–
The President shall be commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the militia of the several states,
He shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.
He shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties,
he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and other officers of the United States,
The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.
He shall from time to time give to the Congress information of the state of the union, and recommend to their consideration such measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient
He shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed, and shall commission all the officers of the United States.
—
See anything about cutting/increasing taxes, providing health care, ….?
———————-
What is in YOUR constitution? I seem to have the wrong one.
Question - When has the govt done anything right? What on earth makes people think a bigger govt is going to work better? McCain, you need to drop the approach you are taking with Acorn and such! You have to focus on what Obama’s plan will do to ALL Americans.
Do you really want to be on a Federal Medical Plan? I don’t even what to think about it!
Do you really want to give someone else your money? Heck, we already give the govt too much as it is!
Do you really think we have the money to pay teachers more? If we did, we’d be doing it already! Oh, that’s right, the govt is going to help school districts like Dallas ISD fix their problems. RIGHT! They can’t even count and balance a budget, but the feds are going to do it. Hold on, I’m laughing!
Be careful folks! It’s only your quality of life you are messing with.
“Remember how Obama is going to give 95% of all of us a tax cut even though over 30% of the population doesn’t pay taxes?”
Actually, Obama said that 95% of Americans will not see their taxes go UP–not that they would not pay taxes at all. I can see the temptation though to mischaracterize Obama, like McCain repeatedly does even after being corrected, because it is much easier to criticize a straw-dog figment of your own imagination than the real man.
“So why raise it at all, especially given the fact that 100 million people in this country own stock and would be affected?”
I’d like to know which “average Joe” is making money in this market and therefore paying capital gains! If there is such a guy out there, he’s got very very deep pockets already.
In any case, the highest capital gains taxes leveed in our country’s history was during Reagans’ presidency–and I thought conservatives loved his economic policies because the economy was actually doing pretty well for most of the 80s? Although Reagan also left the largest budget deficit (adjusted for inflation) ever in our country’s history…until George W. Bush.
Obama is deceptive. He wants to tax wealthy individuals and “wealthy corporations”. When he says these two together, it sounds like “wealthy corporations” are something similar to wealthy individuals, but the two are completely different.. Taxing the first has some logic (although I am not sure that I agree with increasing personal income taxes) and we have a graduated income tax, but the “wealthy corporations” are owned by (1) the middle class through pension funds, IRAs and 401K’s and direct investment, (2) the wealthy and (3) non-profits like college endowment funds. Taxing wealthy corporations is taxing us all, not just wealthy individuals. Corporate profits are a temporary resting place – the final destination is a human being’s pocket or reinvestment inside the corporation – which creates more jobs or keeps the ones we have. If Obama really wanted to increase the tax on the wealthy, he would only change the personal income tax rates and leave corporate tax rates alone. A wealthy corporation can not eat caviar, drink champagne or take a vacation in France and I am pretty sure that Obama actually understands the difference between human beings and an organization. I think John McCain should have made this point clear; it would probably have helped his cause a lot.
OK, i give. I am going to quit work, let the government pay for my house, and let Obama’s tax plan give me some of your hard earned money. We should have thought of this earlier, oh, we did and it was called welfare. Now we are on 3rd and 4the generation welfare families whose members don’t even know how to spell work.
If that is your idea of the American dream, make it happen. It won’t be long until you are willing to move to Juarez, Mexico and face the drug cartels rather than be a part of supporting the United States of Welfare.
Elizabeth Bullock,
It sounds like you are living the “American Dream”- work hard, sacrifice, get ahead. Good for you! Personally, I would love for you and your small business to keep as much money as possible so you can give more people jobs (and pay them well, and provide good benefits), contribute more to the causes you believe in, and continue to be role models for your children.
So if we tax you and your business more, and (depending on the Obama definition of “small business”), force you to pay for employee health benefits, who gets hurt?
-Your employees (probably less of them, less well-paid)
-Your charities
-Your kids - they learn that all that hard work meant that you earned the priveledge of supporting others less willing or less able to work hard for themselves.
All of this so the Government can decide who is entitled to your money.
I am sorry for the way things will go for you when Obama gets elected.
This is off topic but here goes. Does anyone know the origin/symbology of the flag interspersed with the American flag seen in the video “Obama’s Freebies”, which aired on FOX on Oct 13. Do a video search on FOXNEWS.COM. If it is Obamas personal flag/standard it reveals tons about his character that he would choose to display it on equal footing with the flag of the United States.
Why isn’t this information getting out to the voters? Because Time, ABC, NBC and CBS don’t want it exposed. It is in their best interest for future revenue to back up the democrat as contracted.
rmcartwright, go peddle your “ideas and plans” somewhere else. We’re not buying it. You can fool the kids who’ve already been indoctrinated in our public, i.e., socialist, school system (which isn’t so great, hmmm). You can buy the votes of poor people who don’t know or are just too selfish to care about the harm Robin Hood, trickle up economics will do to the “whole.” You can’t fool us though. So go back to the MSNBC or CNN website. There you can find your flock and also your commrades, the socialist elites who fancy themselves benevolent dictators and who dream of expanding their brand of slavery of the “rich” to pay for their ever growing and misguided “plans and ideas” for everything from how we raise and educate our kids to how we get our medical care and everything else.
fascism & socialism are NOT the cure for democracy & capitalism.
My husband and I are small business owners who have worked 30 yrs to get to the point where we are self-sufficeint middle class. We did whatever it took to get here, meaning my husband worked 12-15 hour days, two jobs at some points while building his company. I was a “stay at home” mom who wore ten hats a day keeping four kids where they needed to be and helping grow our business.
We practiced delayed gratification. We earned every move up the ladder. And now, Obama wants to “share” our wealth with the masses? I don’t think so.
Lastly, we are the folks, the self-sufficient middle class, who, while trying to pay for college or orthodontist, etc. are giving chunks of our income to charities. Whether HIV/Aids, school scholarships, the local symphony, museums, the Food Bank, the Boy Scouts…raise our taxes and see how those contributions go down.
We’d rather keep the money we earned and spend it wisely. Thanks, but no thanks Obama.
There are some very simple economic issues involved in the presidential race. The first thing people MUST come to understand is that the consumer/taxpayer pays for everything. EVERYTHING. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Business costs go up and either prices go up or employment comes down. You can’t stay in business long running deficits and even the largest of corporations answer to their shareholders. Beware of raising business costs with higher taxes. We will all pay for it one way or another. We pay for all government costs as well. Raising government spending ultimately effects us as well. The second principle is summarized very well by the old saying: “Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish to feed him for a lifetime”. If you really want to help the healthy disadvantaged, you do it by encouraging and teaching them, and perhaps ultimately forcing them, to be productive citizens. By forcing I mean letting them know they must work to survive. You do NOT take away from others forcibly and redistribute the wealth. That simply encourages more welfare and commits the recipients to a new taxpayer funded form of slavery while reducing the incentive for the productive workers. Obama is a dangerous fool with his beliefs and will damage this country greatly if elected. “Fairness” means equal opprotunity, not equal outcome.
If you are bothered by the comment “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody”, then do not vote for Obama.
If you think that his comment is reasonable and “fair”, then vote for Obama.
It is that simple. He clearly said this, it is on tape for all to see. It was brought to his attention, and he did not refute that he meant to say that. Clearly this is his view.
This is not an attempt by Fox News or the Republicans to “smear” him, or mischaractarize his words or philosphies.
So it all boils down to the individual voters’ opinion on wealth redistribution. If you are for “spreading the wealth around”, read below:
Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating social or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society. Modern socialism originated in the late nineteenth-century working class political movement. Karl Marx posited that socialism would be achieved via class struggle and a proletarian revolution which represents the transitional stage between capitalism and communism.
Socialists mainly share the belief that capitalism by nature concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of society that controls capital, and creates an unequal society. All socialists advocate the creation of an egalitarian society, in which wealth and power are distributed more evenly, although there is considerable disagreement among socialists over how, and to what extent this could be achieved.
Socialism is not a discrete philosophy of fixed doctrine and program; its branches advocate a degree of social interventionism and economic rationalization, sometimes opposing each other. Another dividing feature of the socialist movement is the split on how a socialist economy should be established between the reformists and the revolutionaries.
If you have any doubt that the things Obama is describing are the basic tenets of Socialism, look in any dictionary, encyclopedia or Economics text (you don’t have to take my word for it) . The ideas of “fairness” and “spreading the wealth around” (his EXACT words, by the way) are the basis of Socialism. This is not a judgement or an accusation, it is simply the truth. While you are looking up the definition of Socialism, feel free to look at examples of Socialist Countries and how they are run. If they appeal to you, vote for Obama.
It appears very likely the voters are going to install a socialist in the Presidency. I still can’t believe it. Have we reached that “tipping point” where people believe that as long as the government prints money, they will be taken care of?
Although the economy has dominated the news, I am most concerned about terrorism and the likelihood that terrorists will use Obama’s “diplomacy is the answer to everything” view to draw him into negotiations. How would they do this? Set off ten suicide bombers in ten overcrowded security lines at the ten largest airports. The devastating effect on an economy teetering on the edge of unraveling would be immediate and long lasting. I’m certain that Bin Laden, Inc. views Obama as the best thing to happen to them in 8 years. Terrorists, after all, employ terrorism to achieve political goals. In the case of Islamic terrorists the primary goals appear to be to rid the Middle East of U.S. presence in all its forms, and to do away with Israel. Terrorist acts, if Obama is to be believed, would be met with a “diplomatic initiative” and its not difficult to envision a Chamberlain like event where his Secretary of State announces we’ve “struck a deal.”
So I predict a horrible attack in this country within months of Obama’s inauguration.
With respect to the economy, Obama is a pure “from each according to his means to each according to his needs” socialist. The current Democratic congress has made much of insisting that “programs be paid for” (except, I guess in the last six weeks, and certainly not in the case of Pelosi’s most recent wet dream of a $300B “stimulus” package). With Obama and Austan Goulsby at the helm, I doubt we are going to hear about balanced budgets and “paying for programs” for a long, long time.
Obama’s “programs” and his welfare disguised as “tax relief” provide the sap wood for an inflation conflagration. We’re going to be in Jimmy Carter territory by Q3 2009.
About the time inflation hits 8 or 9%, you’re not going to be able to find 4 voters in 10 who will admit they voted for this undisguised, unrepentant socialist.
Yay time for the assaults on our freedoms to go into overdrive on November 5th. I’ll be keeping every dime I earn and screw giving to charity or any other causes anymore. The country will continually head downhill. The US is now dominated by pathetic, greedy, low iq losers who just want to take from everyone else because they know they’re worth nothing.
Oh well after a few years I’ll have the money to move to another country where they value hard work and the bottom feeders can feed off each other as wealth leaves the country. Say goodbye to the values the US was founded on and welcome to 21st century US marxism.
Well, I guess I’ll stop working so hard to keep my own small business going — teaching English conversation to Japanese tourists and businesspeople — and wait for the wealth to be spread around to me!
Spread the Wealth? Sure, but it should be people like Obama and Biden with all their millions. That would be the patriotic thing to do - right Biden!
I think that anyone is making over $1,000,000 should pay a minimum of 10% and that includes the members of congress and leave the middle class alone. Patriotic thing to do - RIGHT Biden!
You need to cut out the loop holes that millionaries use to pay little or no taxes. Patriotic thing to do - RIGHT Biden!
Middle class has taken the burden of the tax base for years and it is now time for the millionaries to do their sure. Patriotic thing to do - RIGHT Biden!
Increase the Capital Gain Tax on stocks - wrong! Now that most middle class has their 401 in stock, that is a mistake. If you still want to spread the Wealth, then increase the Capital Gain Tax on individuals that have over $1,000,000 in stock and leave the middle class alone. Most middle class have less than $500,000 now that the Stock Market crushed. You need to tax the wealthy and leave the middle class alone. Patriotic thing to do - RIGHT Biden!
Wealthy have the money, not the middle class. So tax them and leave us alone. Patriotic thing to do - RIGHT Biden!
Patricia has the ‘comment of the day’! Brilliant!
I want Matt Damon’s money from ‘Bourne’, that should set me up just fine!
For all those out there who want to share the wealth around and save the earth, ….
Why don’t you do it without the government telling you too? Did Mr. Biden or Mr. Obama? And can anyone give me the name of any wealthy entertainment type who has done the same? If they want to share the wealth around, why don’t they just do it? Why don’t they give at leasts half of what they earn to the government? Why do they need to make us do it first? If they want to save the ‘earth’, why don’t they sacrifice first and then ask us? Have any of them given up jet travel, limo travel, high end food to save the earth? Have any of them drained their pools, moved into smaller homes to conserve energy and water? Rraised their own organic gardens? Has Mr. Obama? Mr. Biden? Any Hollywood elitist? When you go to the voting booth this year, before you pull that handle, make sure that the people you are voting for are already living the life that they plan on making you and me live. Because I will be willing to bet that they don’t and more importantly WON’T be.
Prashant Rao, that was brilliant.
bigtime, I hope you’re joking, because otherwise you’re a racist idiot.
Let’s do some math. Obama can’t give a tax cut to people who don’t pay taxes. Currently, 38% of Americans pay ZERO income taxes. If you give them money that’s not a tax cut, that’s welfare.
If Obama does follow through, the number who pay no taxes goes to 50%. And who’s going to pay for the 1.5 trillion in Obama’s new spending on top of the 1 trillion bailout? Not corporations - they’ll fire people, lower wages, lower dividends, raise taxes, move overseas. Not the super-rich, they don’t have enough to cover this orgy in spending. No, it’ll be the middle class. I think Obama’s lying. The middle class will get no tax cut. It might look like it, but when you factor in the massive loss of jobs and spiraling inflation, the “misery index” will be through the roof.
This insane plan of Obama’s would dump us straight into another Great Depression. Notice how everytime Obama’s poll numbers go up the Dow drops again? The market understands that Obama will destroy our economy in the name of fairness.

Obama’s ‘Diplomacy’ Wins a Republican Endorsement By Adam Graham-Silverman, CQ Staff
The ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee parted ways with his party’s presidential nominee Wednesday by endorsing Democrat Barack Obama’s approach to diplomacy.
In a lengthy speech at the National Defense University, Indiana Sen. Richard G. Lugar weighed the benefits of talking to foreign leaders, including U.S. enemies, against other actions, such as military force. The issue marks one of the sharpest divides between Obama and John McCain, who has called the Democratic nominee naive for suggesting that he would sit down with leaders such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Lugar, however, praised Obama, noting that isolation often does not resolve contentious issues.
“He correctly cautions against the implication that hostile nations must be dealt with almost exclusively through isolation or military force,” Lugar said in a prepared remarks released before his speech. “In some cases, refusing to talk can even be dangerous.”

The irony in this is the IRan announce pre-conditions of their own before talking to the US. Hmmmm. Who looks smarter?
Folks it is so simple that a freshman in college can figure economics out. If you raise taxes you will get less revenue back. The government is not able to invest or become a business that will produce anything. It simply spends money. Obama’s ideas spark of the ideas from the great depression and voodoo (yes that is a real economic term) economics in the 70’s.
Anyone who has ever taken college level courses in macro and micro economics could see clearly that wealth redistribution causes a depression. It occured in europe and in the former USSR. The only reason that the entire world did not go down was the few wealthy (yep folks that was us) nations bailing them out. Isolationism during the early 1930’s was an utter failure and brought the nation deeper into the depression.
If you tax people who are successful then what is the point of trying? A quote from the Soviet era was that “we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us”. This is the welfare cycle where people who could be productive and successful will not be because there is nothing in it for them. When people are penalized for making money then they won’t make it. Simple economic reality is that when something gets too expensive people will not buy it and its price falls (see gas and house prices) or they do not participate (they sit on their rears and expect to be cared for). Why would people try hard and put in extra hours if there is no advantage or profit? Where will the next scientific, medical, engineering breakthrough come from if the people with the ability do not create them?
If you give a person an option of welfare (medicaid) or paying their part of their insurance they will go for the free option everytime. That is completely logical and predictable. We see it in the US where some states are having a crisis because people now are moving from insurance to welfare and the system cannot afford it. This requires even more taxes to continue the program which brings in less money and loses more jobs. The cycle continues until either the government takes over the economy (command economy or communism) or they get the UN to have the US give a handout. Who will bail us out when this happens to us? The UN won’t help us not because of Bush but because we are not a muslim country but still are successful.
People on the government check have no reason to control themselves as the more they spend the more they will receive. This is why the dept of defense spends thousands on a hammer! It is not their money so they have no vested interest in being frugal.
The fed should never be helping the market. The problem is prices are way over what they should be and the market reached a tipping point and now prices are returning to their normal place. The bailout that both candidates voted for will simply draw this process out and cost more money. The people in trouble should be assisted if we can (but no money outlays). But ACORN and Obama should shoulder the burden as they we involved in getting these people into loans they could never afford. Those bankers and speculators who gambled on the prices going up, well, too bad. High profit always comes with high risk. If there is no risk to their profit taking then will anything improve? Seriously ask yourself that.
This is the reason that I have stopped watching debates and most of the “news”. Their understanding of language and just basic economics (everything I have said here is basic and easily understood) is either so blindingly stupid, or they are good liars. So the process is nothing more than a popularity contest for those who do not want to do the research.
MCCAIN FOR PRESIDENT! Before you think it’s OK to vote for Obama, please consider this:
Revelations tells us the beast is allowed authority for 42 months, and you know what that is? Almost a four-year term of a Presidency. The Anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40’s, of MUSLIM descent, who will deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal….the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything.. Do we recognize this description?
MCCAIN/PALIN FOR PRESIDENT

So McFantsy is going to lower large Corporations taxes (Exxon)…. isn’t that another form of class war fare? Go to CNN.com for the transcripts of the last debate. Transcripts don’t spin.

News Alert: Whos really pays corporate taxes? You do. IF you buy the product, taxes are figured in as a cost of doing business. Businesses use a measure call EBITDA (eranings before income taxes, depreciation, and allowances). Buying their product and services pays their , bills, profit, and payroll.
Corporate taxes are just and indirect tax on the populace, abd you buy becuase it is the other guy or the big corporation.

hahahaha, I came on here to see what the fox loyalist are saying. My guess is that most people on here fall somewhere in the middle class so when you get your tax break from Obama I expect you to send it right back for the good of the country.
_______________
Should Obama be elected, it is likely that he will follow in the footsteps of Bill Clinton, and renege, since he wants to share the wealth ans spend more, the top 5% won’t be enough.
Also, They pledge to let teh Bush tax cut s lapse…. Tax increase on the rest of us.
Watch out talking about your Family Values-
Obama may figure how to tax them as a Capital Gain
I don’t see either presidentian canidate coming through with their plans. They are not facing the reallity of politics. We are a nation in decline, a nation becoming a nation without limits. We have children without limits, we have adults without limits. Big business, as a whole, has no limits. The nation as a whole is failing at the family level. And the problem we not be corrected. Once traveled, there is no going back. God Help us. Thank the Good Lord we live in an area where family values still exist.
Regards, Harry
Reluctantly, I offer that I now know how Adolph Hitler got elected in Germany … charismatic orator/rhetorician with no previous experience but a wonderful ‘gift of gab’ who without disclosing his ‘agenda’ convinced an unknowledgeable electorate to his view. Promise them ‘everything’ and they will vote for you.
The following questions have to be asked: If 5% of the population will now pay 95% of the taxes, if taxes on business (will) probably double thus removing the reason for owning a business … will we when we have no ‘place to work’ be still required to make ‘direct payments’ to the ‘new proletariat’?
I really wonder what will happen when all/most the foreign investment in the USA and USA companies simply is retracted and moves to ‘other places’ than the USA… and the US GDP crashes because of this loss of ~30% of working capital. How many USA based companies will simply ‘pack up’ and relocate to ‘business friendly’ places such as London? … many have already started this process, and many foreign owned firms have begun to relocate to ‘better places’.
The simple question is: with the current hemorrhage of ‘capital’ (that which supports income/profit) out of the USA, the relative deflation of the value of that capital/money that remains, the readily apparent impending massive ‘transfer of wealth’ …. will there be ‘any’ place left for a person to have a job (other than government workers, school teachers, and union members working for greatly reduced or empty/gone companies).
The economy/GDP operates solely on ‘profit’ .. without profit or the transfer of profit to the ‘proletariat’, there is NO GDP, no jobs, …. .
My economic bet is that the USA will soon (after the next inauguration) rapidly decline in GDP and enter into or move towards a ‘modern and protracted depression’ due to the resurrection of domestic socialism similar to that which occurred in the Great Depression of 1929-1954. … and the USA becomes just another 3rd world country.
Liberalism: Collective enforced mediocrity.
I am a legal immigrant. I believe that the founding fathers of this nation were exceptionally wise and brilliant in laying out the constitution - with very specific scopes and limitations of the authority of the President, Congress and the Judiciary. I have yet to see any politician explain how the Constitution allows for the government to take one individual’s money and give it to someone else, in any situation, be it need, fairness or concentration. Neither Section 8 of Article 1 nor the amendments have any language that says that Congress has the power “To provide for the health of the people” or “To provide capital or other national resources to private enterprise” or even “To provide for a fair and appropriate compensation to the people” - yes, I am upset about the bonuses taken by CEOs that threw risk to the winds (with the tacit and at times, forced backing of those in power) but it is not in the government’s authority to mandate executive or any other pay levels - that should be an issue for corporate governance and shareholders to deal with. Otherwise we are on a steep slippery slope….
Frankly, I am aghast at how much the Constitution has been eroded by the fudging, cleverly worded marketing of the politicians. So please, next time a candidate says I will force companies to provide for health care or spread the wealth, check your Constitution and ask yourself, how well will this candidate uphold the constitution.
Before anyone says that the Constitution does not reflect current times or needs and that health care should be a right, I will point out that the Constitution clearly (and cleverly) lays out the amendment process - it is a document that can be updated to reflect the will of the people but has a process. So if Congress should have the power to provide for health care, let us insist on properly amending the Constitution to very specifically allow for this - if we do not insist on this, then the Constitution will be worth nothing - and the whole framework of what made this nation great will no longer exist.
——————————————————-
What is in your constitution? I seem to have the wrong one.
Has anyone figured out that the reason Hollywood loves Obama is that they play people that they are not and he does also. He is not a Christian, not for the people of America, and not the great world leader he likes to play on TV. He is a socialist with a political machine backing him which includes nut cases like Ayers who hate America and want to see capitalism destroyed. The problem is he forgets this is America and it refused tyranny once and can do it again. He may have quite an uprising on his hands.
Let Obama have it. He is trying to make the white folk pay & his people continue to sit on their butts. If Obama gets in our country will suffer greatly, remember Carter years!!
Obama said in an interview yesterday that if Fox news didn’t exist,
