Kristol: McCain Should Fire His Entire Campaign Staff

As seen on “FOX & Friends”

STEVE DOOCY, CO-HOST: You write in your op-ed in today’s New York Times, there is still time for McCain to win. But your suggestion is–[he should] can everybody on his staff. Why?

BILL KRISTOL, EDITOR, THE WEEKLY STANDARD/FOX NEWS CONTRIBUTOR: Or at least some of them. Change the campaign. Look, McCain is a good candidate. Palin is an excellent candidate. They’ve got a campaign that has not been effective. They’ve run a million ads, I don’t think any of them is as good as a single voter. And where are McCain and Palin? I mean this literally — why isn’t one of them on “FOX & Friends” every day? Wouldn’t they get to more voters than with these ads and e-mails and frantic…

DOOCY: They should be on all the shows, sure.

KRISTOL: They should be on all the shows. McCain should forget about all the staff management. Every place he goes he should do a press conference. He should do all the local TV, he should do talk radio. They should just let them be themselves. Ride around with the press. Let Palin do the same thing. McCain and Palin are the best products of the McCain-Palin campaign. And they’ve managed to kind of bottle them up, make them look negative, trying to run a kind of campaign that McCain is not comfortable with. I think it’s foolish. Anyway, it’s not working.

Bill Kristol, What negative remarks you made after the debate made me sick. If you can’t stand up for McCain when he is trying his best and MADE very important facts be known then you should go work with Katie Couric and NBC . You are a huge disappontment and I always was interested in your input., not anymore. You were smug, elitites who apparently are all for Obama and his higher taxes, abortion, and socialism. You can take Fred Barnes with you. Our freedoms are being taken away and we are loosing our country.

Bill Kristol you really dissapointed Colorado with your remarks after the debate last night. I want you to know I went to bed earlier than usually because of your negative remarks about McCain. If you are turning liberal that you need to move on to ABC or one of the other liberal stations. I did turn the channel to MSNBC to see what their reponse was on the debate and I want to praise Chris Matthews for his report. I can say that it was so much better than what you, Juan, Nina and Fred had to say about John McCain’s debate. His remarks were very fair and kind. Maybe you and Chris can switch jobs. My husband and I are 100% Fox viewers. Our 15 year old granddaughter a sophomore was asked to write an article in her school newspaper on the presidential campaign has learned so much from the Fox News achors and their guest. She has mentioned that one day she would like to consider running for the US Senate. BUT I’m not sure anymore if I would advise her tol continue to watch Fox News when people like you turn your back on our precious conservative presidential runner John McCain. Your anger, your red face and the words that came out of your mouth were very dissapointing and discouraging. I believe because John McCain did not heed to your suggestions for the debate made you mad. Remember he has a proffessional advising team and that is who he needs to listen to. My suggestion to you Bill either stand with John McCain and Sarah Palin even when the pressure gets tough or move to Obama’s liberal side.

Bill Kristol needs to find a new party, your liberal slip is showing Bill.

Between my pension (I am still working at 70) and my wife’s pension, we make approximately $45,000 annually and with Obama’s proposal to share the wealth, I would like to know how much of his personal wealth ($9,000,000 in 6 years) that he would be willing to pull from offshore accounts (I’m sure that is where he has it) and share with people like us, who are barely making it .

I very definitely am not voting for Obama and am encouraging every one I encounter to do the same!

I know tonight is the last debate but I would love someone to ask him these questions. He would hem and haw but never answer, as he always does.

I never thought I would see this country in this big a mess in my lifetime! God help us!

Dear Concerned America:

Does John McCain “pal around with terrorists?”

Certainly McCain’s continuing “association” and relationship with the convicted Watergate burglar and domestic terrorist G. Gordon Liddy might suggest that is the case, if we are to apply the standards drawn by the McCain campaign.

In 1998, Liddy gave a fundraiser in his Scottsdale, Arizona home for McCain’s senatorial re-election campaign — the two posed for photographs together; and as recently as May, 2007, as a presidential candidate, McCain was a guest on Liddy’s syndicated radio show. Inexplicably, McCain heaped praise on his host’s values. During the segment, McCain said he was “proud” of Liddy, and praised Liddy’s “adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.”

“Since they are not natural creatures they should be exterminated forthwith as the liberal tools of evil they are.”

This is who you align yourself with Republicans. It’s great to have an opinion, but you must really think through what you’re saying. A lot of you sound absolutely insane, and it doesn’t help your talking points. Calm down, realize that no matter who is elected it won’t be as bad as the last person you voted for: Bush. :)

What needs to happen for McCain to steel this election:

a. Russia would have to invade Georgia and attempt to annex them
b. the Iraqi pepole would have to stop fueding, as they have for over 50 generations, declare Iraq a thriving democracy and claim that its all because of the American”surge”.
c. Biden would have to make an extraordinary gaff about Sarah Palins intellect.
d. Obama would have to caught sleeping with Hilary.
e. McCain would have to dye his hair and learn to act like Regan.

Comment by Jason

If anyone thinks Obama’s plans are even REMOTELY “Socialist”, they’ve either never been in a history class or never passed one.

People throw around words like “Socialist” without having the faintest clue what it actually means. The United States has never even approached Socialism, let alone had a major candidate espouse its views.

For the “most liberal” guy we’ve got, his views are remarkably moderate when compared to international politics. McCain and Palin, on the other hand, clock in only a few ticks away from Jean-Marie Le Pen’s corner in the right-wing on the grand scale.

You wanna see “Socialism”? Take a look at Europe for something more akin to Socialism (incidentally, note that their sky hasn’t fallen yet). You want to see “socialized medicine”? Don’t look at Obama’s policies, because you won’t find it—look at Canada’s health care system (incidentally, note that their preventable death rate is much lower than our own).

Stop throwing around insults of which you know nothing about. The only thing worse than being stupid is letting everyone around you know it.

Comment by Barb

To me, it’s a clue to what McCain would do in the White House.

Appoint bad advisors to his cabinet, bounce around from tactic to tactic.

Our country is in a horrible mess. McCain as president will just make it worse.

We need someone who is calm and steady. That’s Obama.

Wow People, I think some facts need to be looked at here. First of all we need to stop acting like 1st graders picking teams for dodge ball! We are all Americans and need to treat each other as such! Second of all WEALTH RE-DISTRIBUTION IS SOCIALIST! And that is exactly what Mr. Obama intends. He has said it over and over. No tax increases for 95%. That means tax the hardest working, highest producing Americans and use the money to fund programs for the least producing Americans(remember, 30% of us don’t pay any federal income tax at all). It will be in the form of Gov benefits and subsidies and may even include giving these non-tax payers a “rebate” even though they do not pay taxes already!
Time for a reminder of what “third party spending” is. 1st party: I buy myself something with my money, I care about quantity, quality, and cost. 2nd party: I buy you something with my money, I care about cost but not quality or quantity. 3rd party: I buy you something with someone elses money, Now I don’t care about cost, quality, or quantity. Why should I, it’s not my money?! ALL Gov spending is,by definition, third party. It’s why they’ll pay $400 for a toilet seat! Gov will always attract poor spending. It can’t help it, it is built in.
Liberal Americans tend to want the gov to play a big roll in the quality of our lives. They want health care and other benefits they see as “rights” to be taken care of for them. But when third party spending problems raise their ugly heads the libs are the first to scream foul and demand hearings and investigations! Stop it! Quit expecting gov to get it right, they can’t! That’s why we want to keep the gov small!
I believe that liberals are as Patriotic as anyone. But I also believe they are mislead about what gov is capable of doing well. And the way McCain is running his campaign it looks like they may win this election and pick up more seats in the house and senate. We are going to see MUCH bigger gov under the dems. I just pray that they don’t do so much damage that we can’t fix it four yrs. If firing his campaign staff at this point will help, he should do it.
Thanks Bill For an interesting piece!

Put Palin on every major talk show in the country? That would truly be the deathnail. She has been asked by The Associated Press, The New York Times (and I’m sure there are others) to comment on recent stories, Troopergate for one, and she has declined. If the McCain lets her do anything other than the stump speeches again (since she failed miserably with Couric and Gibson), I will be surprised.

Obama Campaign Runs Afoul of Finance Rules

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 8:25 PM

By: Kenneth R. Timmerman Article Font Size

A Newsmax investigation of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign finance reports has turned up more than 2,000 cases in which individuals have made donations far above the legal limit of $2,300 per election.
Such donations, if not returned within 60 days, violate federal campaign finance laws.
Some can be chalked up to common names, such as Michael Brown, William Taylor, or James Smith.
But many others cannot.
On Aug. 31, for example, the Obama campaign filed a report listing a single donation from a Debra Myers in “Rancho Palos Verde, Calif.,” for $28,500 – more than 10 times the amount the law allows per election. Although Debra Myers is identified as a physician, only two individuals with that last name have a listed phone number in Rancho Palos Verdes (the city’s name actually does have an “s” at the end). Neither is a Debra or a “D” Myers, or a physician.
The Obama campaign also identified Woodrow Myers Jr. of Indianapolis, Ind., on Aug. 31 as having given $28,500 to the campaign. Woodrow “Woody” Myers is a former Indiana state health commissioner who spent $2.1 million of his own money in a failed special election to challenge Andre Carson, the grandson of U.S. Rep. Julia Carson, who died in December. The younger Carson won the race this year, with heavy backing from lobbyists, the Democratic Party and related PACs. (Interestingly, Woodrow Myers’ wife is identified as Debra, although Newsmax could not confirm whether this is the same Debra Myers the campaign report lists as being from Palos Verdes.)
In an initial reply to Newsmax que stions, the Obama campaign said it had refunded both contributions on Sept. 30, a day after a Newsmax investigation was published that revealed extensive federal electi on campaign violations by the campaign.
[Read “Secret, Foreign Money Floods Into Obama Campaign” — Go Here Now].
The Republican National Committee cited that earlier Newsmax investigation in a formal complaint against the Obama campaign with the Federal Election Commission on Monday.
Several hours later, Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt e-mailed Newsmax to say that the contributions had been “reattributed” to the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee with the Democratic National Committee, and that the excess had been refunded.
That still put both Debra Myers and Woodrow Myers over the federal limits – unless the Obama campaign refunded their entire checks, since Debra gave another $28,500 earlier in the year to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and Woodrow was way over the $108,2000 overall election cycle limit for individuals.
Individuals can give $2,300 to a federal candidate in both the primary and the general election, for a total of $4,600 in a single election cycle. They also can give $28,500 to a national party commit tee, $10,000 to a state or local committee, and $5,000 to other political committees.
If a candidate loses the primary, any money counted toward the general election must be refunded, a wrinkle in the federal election laws that can sink losing candidates deep in debt.
In exchange for receiving federal funding, the McCain campaign agreed not to take any money from individual donors for the general election, so its donors are limited to $2,300.
In addition to Debra Myers and Woodrow Meyers, hundreds of other individual donors have given to the Obama campaign far in excess of the legal limit, a Newsmax analysis of campaign finance records shows.
Among them:
James Sievers of Big Sky, Mont., gave a total of $20,700 to the campaign, in five donations between March and June of this year. The campaign has returned close to $7,000 of the money but has kept the rest.
Martin Dies of Austin, Texas, also gave $20,700 to the campaign, in four separate checks, each dated June 30, 2007. The campaign returned $2,300 of it immediately, and another $4,600 in September, but kept $13,800 – three times the legal limit.
Robert Watt of Brooklyn, N.Y., gave close to $17,000 to the campaign starting in February of this year, includ ing a whopping $10,000 check logged by the campaign on Aug. 31. Despite the obvious violation of the campaign limits, FEC records show that the campaign returned just $2,300.
Ryan Finley of Portland, Ore., has given $15,400 to Obama for America, starting with two checks on March 6, 2007, totaling $6,900. The campaign immediately returned $2,300, bringing him within the legal limit. He gave another $8,500 in a lump sum on Aug. 26, 2008.
Ms. Merry T. O’Donnell of Juno Beach, Fla., has given $13,150 to the Obama campaign, starting with three donations in March 2007 that totaled $2,000. In January 2008, she gave two more donations of $1,000 each, as well as donations for $600 and for $2,000. In February, she gave another $4,600. As of the latest filing, the campaign has refunded just $2,300 of the total, leaving her net donations at over two times the legal limit for the two elections.
Jerry Rubin of Whitefish Bay, Wis., has given $12,700 to the Obama campaign in varying amounts since February 2007. Despite the obvious violation, the campaign has refunded just $3,400 of that total, still putting him at double the legal limit.
These are just a sampling of the 2,087 individuals who have given Obama more than the $4,600 combined total for the primaries and the general election.
0D
Donors with common names but who live in different parts of the country are among these 2,087 names. For example, the top individual contributor is Micha el Brown, listed as giving $36,706 to the campaign.
But a closer look turns up what appear to be 46 different people sharing the same name, each giving addresses in different cities around the United States.
Newsmax has screened donors appearing in the FEC database to weed out those with similar names and different addresses.
For example, in the examples listed in this article, we have eliminated any donations from individuals with the same name who are listed as having a different address.
The FEC regularly sends letters to the Obama campaign, questioning contributions that appear to go over the legal limits. In many cases, the Obama campaign has amended its reports as a result.
But the examples cited here have not been amended.
“It is illegal to make contributions in excess of the limits, and it is illegal to receive contributions in excess of the limits,” FEC spokesman Bob Biersack told Newsmax.
So both the donors and the campaign may have broken the law. “But there are lots of circumstances, and until the four commissioners have agreed to rule, it’s hard to judge,E2 he said.
Obama campaign spokesman Ben LaBolt told Newsmax that the McCain campaign also has caught excess donations and has “refunded $ 1.2 million in contributions.”
Sean Cairncross, the general counsel for the Republican National Committee who filed the complaint with the FEC on Monday, told Newsmax that the McCain campaign has been “completely transparent with respect to its contributions” by making the names of all donors available to the public in a searchable database. The McCain campaign has even disclosed donors of $200 or less, though it is not required to do so. The Obama camp has not disclosed those donors.
“The Obama campaign has steadfastly refused to make that information public,” he said.
Referring specifically to the huge amount of money that the Obama campaign claims it has raised from small donors, Cairncross said the identity and nationality of those donors could very well remain secret until well after the election unless the Obama campaign makes their names public.
“The American people deserve to know where $250 million in contributions — money that could potentially elect a president — is coming from,” he said. “And at this point, we have no way of knowing.”

pulling the lever for Obama is precisely like putting a gun to your head, asking God to let you live another day and then pulling the trigger. Obama is a bullet to the head of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If he wins, it will be nothing but one big, bloody mess. Obama may accomplish single-handedly what the Germans, Japs and Russian empire were unable to do, and you want to step into your polling place and assist. On behalf of Bin Ladin, Ayers and terrorists everywhere, thanks for your support in our effort to wipe out America.

1PghLady,

They all say that when challenged. It is quite amazing!

To Paul and 1pghLady,

Finally, an opportunity to respond….Paul you are truly making a spectacle of yourself with your personal attacks, all your ranting and raving you spew towards everyone that don’t have the same views as you…how juvenile and bombastic. While stooping to your level — to point out my opposition to your views– is not my style, I sometimes wonder if I need to talk the “Paul Talk” so you might grasp a nano %….but you know what……your in luck, b/c I don’t feel like wasting my time and energy to reduce myself to your level.

You know Paul, you’re sitting there in front of your computer blogging, incessantly all day battling everyone and their brother, at the speed of light, with the obtuse notion you are right and everyone else who deviates from your way of thinking are uneducated numbskulls. I can see you and 1pghlady enjoy creating static and noise for your own gratification and pleasure……I’m sure it makes you feel really smart and so on top of your game.

Watch when all is said and done w/Obama as our new Pres., you will be walking back to your huge hibernaculum with your tail between your legs.

One day I would like for this great country of ours to move beyond titles like repulican, democrat, conservative, rightwing, leftwing, liberal. How about just American. Once we do this we will “all just get alone”.

Paul,

It is easy to see by your comments that you views are of a typical coward, fueled by emotion and not fact, fearful of change and intolerant of ideas above your own understanding……not typical of a republican…..

Oh and by the way! If McCain truely new how to catch Ben Laden, he should tell the President. That may be the only way McCain can give his camp some urgently needed oxygen. And one more thing “my friend”, to do otherwise is borderline treason. Yeah?

by the way jane I know what net means I managed a gift shop in Ft, Walton Beach Flordia and we net over 250,00 with three employees and paid taxes on all the things you mentioned, payroll, inventory, equipment, property taxes .

And I guess your one of the few who don’t need gas, because the compamies that build the rig , the geologic and the mechanic pay or over 250,00 a year ,so I cann’t see them staying here, Exon has maybe 10 rigs here now the rest or overseas, And the people that are need to discover new fuel energy are really going to try if their taxed to death after they do.

Most small business owners don’t pay themselve too much even when the business nets more than 250K because they hope to be a big business one day.

If an S corp net is too high, you need to expand your business more. That’s the whole idea…..

Comment by linda

My son -in law nets more than that with a lawn service with only two employees .

Comment by Jane

@Linda

The majority of small businesses do not NET more than $250,000.

NET means — after payroll, supplies, inventory, trucks, equipment, paying the accountant etc and so on.

Sorry. For some reason my posts weren’t going through.

Paul. Krugman was right. Reagan started this policy. H.W. Bush raised taxes and Clinton kept those in place. Those were the ONLY years we did well.

W lowered the upper brackets too far. Look where are. You cannot deny we’re in a mess. Too much debt, running a war we either can’t afford — or don’t WANT to afford.

but Paul, our precious Buffet is a capitalist in the true sense of the word. So is Gates, Oprah, and so many others.

You have who? Trump? He has taken advantage of corporate welfare by filing bankruptcy and now he doesn’t want anyone else to do it!

You are holding on to a theory that only works under non-extreme conditions.

Reagan lowered taxes and starting charging everything on the nation’s credit card. You call THAT a leader?

Based on that philosophy, all these breadwinners that went out and got crazy mortgages on mcmansions they could not afford were great, too.

It takes a real leader to know when to do this strategy versus that strategy.

When Obama says he may delay his tax plans based on the current economic conditions, he is showing true leadership.

When I tell my family in January that we will take a vacation to Paris in September, that does not mean we will do it even if the business is facing bankruptcy!

Paul, I can not believe you are so drunk on some ideology that you can not understand the need for adjustments as needed.

Jane,

You are kidding me right? His website. You are naive beyond belief. I am telling you the man said it in Texas on the night Hillary kicked his butt in OH.

BTW, Your precious Buffet is for increased taxes. Especially the death tax. KNow why? Because that is how he has made his fortune. He is a vulture. When the family farm owner passes. The taxes on the land value are too high and the sell to Buffet for a fraction. Then he sells to ADM for big bucks.

What Motivates Me to Support Barack Obama (part one)

While my crystal ball may be no clearer than anyone else’s, I am sure that we need to choose a President who exemplifies the 21st Century and is not just an echo of the Cold War mentality. I personally admire John McCain, but I simply cannot see him inspiring the nation and our world economic partners to work together and solve our very daunting problems. My Obama support-decision matrix includes the characteristics of Judgment, Temperament, Charisma, Intellect, Adaptability, Virtue, Vision, Traditional Republican Values, and dedication to “Main Street.” Barack Obama is without question the superior choice for me based on my analysis below.

Temperament: Inside and out of the next administration, the next president needs a personality and disposition that does not inflame problems, but intelligently resolves them.

Charisma: Is there any question?

Intellect: Obama finished at the top of his class at Harvard while McCain finished very close to the bottom of his class at Annapolis; if there is doubt, listen to each of them respond to a complex question.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch endorsed Democrat Barack Obama on Sunday:

“Over the past nine months, Mr. Obama, the junior senator from Illinois, has emerged as the only truly transformative candidate in the race. In the crucible that is a presidential campaign, his intellect, his temperament and equanimity under pressure consistently have been impressive. He has surrounded himself with smart, capable advisers who have helped him refine thorough, nuanced policy positions.

In a word, Mr. Obama has been presidential.

Meanwhile, Mr. McCain, the senior senator from Arizona, became the incredible shrinking man. He shrank from his principled stands in favor of a humane immigration policy. He shrank from his universal condemnation of torture and his condemnation of the politics of smear.

He even shrank from his own campaign slogan, “Country First,” by selecting the least qualified running mate since the Swedenborgian shipbuilder Arthur Sewall ran as William Jennings Bryan’s No. 2 in 1896.”
