WWWRD? When Faced With the 2008 Economy What Would Will Rogers Do?
Will Rogers would begin by asking, “Whatever happened to the idea that bankers were conservative? You know, conservative as in careful and cautious, the opposite of gamblers.”
And he could continue, “We should go back to the days when local bankers made loans to locals. Back to the days when the president of the local bank knew the neighbors, knew about the unique concerns of the area. Was a pillar of the community, a soft touch for local charities.”
He would also say, “This is our country. This land is your land, this land is my land. And so if, as a safety net for the honest and hardworking, the government guarantees savings—and it should, to protect the folks—then the government should demand better behavior from bankers. Somewhere, in New York, or Las Vegas, men should be free to gamble all they want, as casino capitalists, and lose all they want. But let them bet the house with their money, not our money.”
And one other thing, he’d add, after doing a rope trick: “If banks are too big to fail, then they are too big. We won’t make that mistake again, will we?”

In reply to BEN:
In his reply to my post, Ben assessed my statement about finally getting some progressive ideas in motion in Washington as, “For anyone who needs a translation: “progressive”, read as “socialistic.””
Progressive doesn’t need your translation. It’s an english word meaning continuing, advancing or growing. We have much opportunity for advancement and growth for all citizens of this country but we won’t get there with the “stuck on stupid” policies of the doofus in the White House now or those of Senator McCain who seems bound and determined to continue them. Let’s move forward with some new ideas and optimism about America. Stick a fork in Senator McCain. He’s done.
By the way, as a sociology lesson, in true socialism property and wealth are controlled by the members of the community - not the government. So although you apply a negative connotation to the term, it would actually be the preferred form of government for most people if we could make it work.

Thank You , your sentiments are mine. I hope someday one of the liberal networks struggle financially and gets sold to someone like Steve Forbes. This would likely force the other netorks to be more balanced. This is why I would hope that consertatives would take a stand and start a boycott. They would feel a boycott financially.
You are what you think and for many their opinions are shaped by the Media’s thinking. Its a slow process by which lies told enough become truth. Or what is not presented or what is presented influences.
DO you have suggestions for a homemade presidential sign for a street or house that people might understand and influence a few voters in the middle? what might work????
OPen To any suggestions from anyone.
Do you think it okay to use Obama’s middle name in a sign???
ok, SarahPsvajayjay,
Sadly, you display the immaturity of other ignorant, biased voters like yourself who have tunnel vision regarding this country, and what is truly important. Talk about hate-filled comments! What kind of attitude is that? It’s your type of mindset - the “us versus them” mentality - that is dividing, not “uniting” this country. Class warfare was created by political manuvers by leftist leaning folks, and it is sad. It’s this elitist, close-minded, selfish mentality that has created class envy and racial strife. So sad! This is not the way to unite the country. What an elementary attitude!

Christopher Hitchens, erstwhile former Nation columnist turned Iraq warrior, writes a column headlined: “Vote for Obama: McCain lacks the character and temperament to be president. And Palin is simply a disgrace.”
Chrsitopher Buckley, son of William F Buckley, says “Obama has in him — I think, despite his sometimes airy-fairy “We are the people we have been waiting for” silly rhetoric — the potential to be a good, perhaps even great leader. He is, it seems clear enough, what the historical moment seems to be calling for.
“So, I wish him all the best. We are all in this together. Necessity is the mother of bipartisanship. And so, for the first time in my life, I’ll be pulling the Democratic lever in November. As the saying goes, God save the United States of America.”
Also being from Oklahoma, I believe Will would have something about this being “the first time we bailed someone out before we sent them to jail”.
Don Howard wrote: “You conservatives will get a chance to see how great America can be with some progressive ideas.”
For anyone who needs a translation: “progressive”, read as “socialistic”. The sad part is that liberals really believe what they say sometimes. And those that don’t are even more despotic, because they know that what they are proposing is a system that is built to fail and force people not into self-reliance, but reliance upon the bloated government they inhabit.
The good news is that socialism and it’s cousin, communism, have failed repeatedly. Therefore, anything that the Dems trot out as their latest social experiment will fail on it’s collective face, swinging this good country (I know - that goes against the Dems core beliefs - believing that the USA is good) back to it’s conservative roots.
Well there is one thing for sure Will Rogers would not be in a welfare line. Obama’s “TAX CREDIT” for those who do not know is ‘SOCIAL WELFARE”. Mean you get a check from the Government . That is His 95 % tax cut plan. I hope Voters realize this. Social Welfare will ruin this country. Welfare almost ruined it I will even give Clinton some mention that He did reduce welfare.

There is absolutely no way the Dems could do any worse than that bunch of clueless wonders lead by the doofus in chief. America is wising up and Senator Obama will not be swift-boated. To: Boozer, re: ‘Righties’ are gonna lose…
Got news for ya, pal. If the Dems take control of the White House and both the Senate and House, we’re all gonna lose. Sadly, I think that’s what it will take to get this country back on the right path. Let one party have the power to drive the bus headlong into the ditch.
But, hey, at least while the Dems are doing it, they’ll be singing that merry Obama song, “Hopey Hopey, Change Change”.
I’m fairly sure that Congress is familiar with at least one Rogers quote: “If Stupidity got us into this mess, then why can’t it get us out?” ” - Will Rogers (1879-1935)
Intolerance has become a bad word. What we need to understand is intolerance is a great thing sometimes. Sometimes it’s the greatest thing. Individuals have to make decisions everyday on what to accept and what not to accept morally, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Why should our government, leaders, media do the same? They do not help or reflect “we, the people” if they do not. We now face a moment in our history and the most important thing is “NOT THE ECONOMY, STUPID”….it is what do we want to be the underpinnings of our autonomy? Does anything go? Do we tolerate anything and everything, anyone and everyone in this country? Or: do we find ourselves again? I don’t mind being called intoleranat. I AM intolerant of many things and yes, types of people. We defined our country and beliefs with the bloodshed of many brave and self-sacrificing veterans all during our history. I fear if we do not become more INTOLERANT now, we will surely lose our country. I know we will because we’ve been loosing our identity for about 25 years now. This election is the most crucial one of all times in our history, because despite the issues and plans, we have to somehow recognize WHICH CANDIDATE IS MOST PATRIOTIC…WHICH MAN HAS MORE HONOR FOR OUR COUNTRY AND OUR HISTORY. Which one is the better American?? This is the question of our present time.
Phil Gramm DEREGULATED FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS in the Gramm/Leahy/Bliley Act of 1999. This act overturned protections (regulations) of the Glass/Steagall Act of 1933.

To Joey,
There are many who share your sentiments. I am one of them.
The problem that we are witnessing today is one which is similar to what the Italians experienced in the early 1920s and which later on the Germans faced– specifically, most persons have no concept of what facism is and how it works; therefore, when it hits them squarely in the face, they still do not see it as such.
When Mussolini came to power in 1922, American progressives (the forebearers of today’s liberals) lauded his social and economic programs. One American writer even said, “Sure, he breaks a few heads from time to time but at least he gets things done.” Years later, Joseph Goebells, Third Reich Propaganda Minister wrote in the May 11, 1941 edition of the newspaper, Das Reich, “[T]he western democracies do not have the slightest notion of the workings of National Socialist Politics.” And frankly Joey, nothing has changed. American liberals do not know why they believe what they believe. They label conservative views as fascist, yet history clealy shows that fascism has always come from the left, never from the right!
If one takes the fascist ideology of the pre Second World-War era and eliminates the militarism, racism, and despotism, the result is liberalism. It is a political-economic philosophy which has never worked. Its goal is to control every area of life as we now know it–from the number of sheets of toilet paper one uses in the bathroom to the amount of money which one is allowed to keep.
Sadly, many Americans do not yet see this; however, if the Democratic candidate for President wins, they very soon will.
All the best to you
Dem. or Repub. they are both guilty. But for all of you who fell asleep in enonomics class, FDR started what we have now…creeping socialism…it started with Social Security…pure Socialism.

Dear Friends at Fox News,
I thought of another quote from Will Rogers (I think it was he) that the media (I don’t know if he used that term) is the watchdog of government. At the time that he was popular I think the media of importance was the newspaper and thus the journalists were the ones who kept the government honest. I wonder what he would think today of the terribly biased newspaper and magazine business. There is a large element of our population who is being brainwashed by the media of all kinds which includes the movie industry. I don’t know how the producers of movies got a tax break as one of the earmarks attached to the deal to straighten out the economy. Maybe you have some insight on that. Of the billions of dollars wondering around the movie industry how does such an inappropriate thing happen. The movie industry should be ashamed of themselves. The makers of the spoof on Michael Moore had to go to a French company to have the movie made. Look what they are doing now: The stupid movie “W” (Made by Democrats to defame Bush further) and the spoof on Christianity. I bet the likes of Osama bin Laden is really enjoying that one.
What are we in for if the Democrats get in? I can see it all now with the likes of Dodd, Schummer, Frank, oh, yes, and Nancy Pelosi and Reid. I fully expect to see Nancy with a crown on her head with velvet robes embossed with gold and in her right hand is a club with a golden tip which she will use on anyone who gets in her way. Our Democracy will become a Socialistic State!!!
FOr; DROWSKI thanks for the prayer for our country, it is with my daily prayers A.M and P.M. i am humble and pleading for our Christian nation. please God, save us from the Antichrist. let him, if he is neccesary get his start somewhere else, not here.
Where was Will Rogers when the Community ReInvestment Act was passed during the Carter Administration or when the Clinton administration pushed for even more people to get homes they could not afford.
Now we need to get back to the basics. Require that people actually have proof that they have a job to get a loan. Require a down payment and that people have some common sense to sign the documents.
When will people wise up and quit voting for the Barney Franks and Chris Dodds. Get them out of there and put some outside oversight on Congress. Get rid of earmarks and lets get some term limits.
I bought a home that I can afford and make all of my payments on time. It is about time that those who haven’t learned to live within their means to learn a hard lesson. The victim society has got to come to an end.
Mr. McFarland,
I wrote earlier to explain that not all financial institutions are banks, but you are still using the “banks are our enemy” routine.
First, we do accept ALL savings accounts, no matter how small. But, please remember that banks are a business and must cover the costs of all the transactions that occur within and without the institution. If a 12 year old came in for a savings account, we would welcome them because we, too, want to encourage savings and because he is a future customer. However, that savings account will undoubtedly end up costing us money because of all the fees, etc., associated with any banking transaction. Just like any other business, our income must exceed our costs. We must distribute the cost of doing any business over many types of accounts and transactions. If one does not pay for itself, then another account must or we would go out of business. Sometimes, even when it is not part of OUR BUSINESS, we pay the price. For example, when the Savings and Loan fiasco occurred, our FDIC premiums went up 10 fold even though S/L were NOT part of the banking system. That decreased the capital we had for our community to invest and hurt OUR customers!
In the days of my father-in-law, a 12 year old opening an account was a good investment because people tended to stay with the local bank. Customers, too, were loyal because we were all friends and neighbors. Today, our small town bank competes with online institutions for business. Our bank President says that he is not afraid of competition, but that the playing field must be fair.
Well, that playing field is absolutely not fair and is slanted toward “easy” money which hurts all of us. How? Here’s an example of how commercial banks are being squeezed so that that paper carrier account becomes a burden, not an asset. Credit Unions do not pay income tax. They do not bear the same regulatory burden that banks do. They do not have the same examinations, nor have to meet the same standards as we do. Yet, they are allowed to compete for the same customers and pay rates that are not responsible in today’s world. They “buy” accounts and then turn around and let politicians create breaks for them to excuse those bad business decisions.
Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac were governmental entities that competed for the same home loans that we did and were responsible for the mentality that led people to believe that so long as the financial institution would make the loan, the loan was a good thing for them. But, THOSE PEOPLE KNEW BETTER, in most cases, as did the lenders. (Most of those lenders, though, were NOT commercial banks. They were investment brokers, etc.)
So, for you to blame banks, in general, for that paper carrier account being unprofitable and, in some places, maybe not accepted, is like blaming the grocery stores because the price of orange juice goes up when there is a freeze in Florida. Do you expect any other business to accept unprofitable deals? When was the last time you railed on a hardware store because the tool you wanted cost more than you wanted to pay?
It’s time for the general public to stop trying to pass the blame for what ails the country on any given sector. We are all in this together, whether we ( commercial banks) created the problem or not. We didn’t. But, we know that we will, once again, be blamed for the mess. And, even after we pay for this latest debacle, it will somehow become our fault that it happened!
That idea of blame is an UNFAIR COST OF DOING BUSINESS. But, with politicians ever looking for scapegoats, we know that we will most likely be the ones blamed and the ones paying the freight. That is not good for us, our customers, or our country.
He would also say this “Congress is the finest body of men money can buy”!
As a small town banking family, let me clarify that it was NOT the small, conservative, commercial banks that created this problem. We consistently rank at the top of the heap in all our exams for fiduciary responsibility and corporate soundness. We have no properties being repossessed because we carefully examine ALL loan applications, then work with the customer to help them maintain their payment schedules.
Most of the problems stemmed from financial institutions that dealt directly with corporations, not banks such as ours. In fact, those financial institutions were NOT banks at all! Please do NOT LUMP ALL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS TOGETHER AND CALL THEM BANKS. Commercial Banks, SUCH AS OURS, are a distinct, highly regulated industry that has served our community for generations and served them well. Why? Because our customers are our neighbors and friends.
The “too big to fail” mantra has been a thorn in our sides for years. It led to the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980s where banks, despite not being related to S/L in any way, had to pay huge premiums to bail these S/L out. And, before that, they had been our main competition, not our financial comrades! But, Congress ignored the non-relationship and determined that “banks” would have to pay for the failures of that system, too.
Secondly, the housing market problem was a direct result of unfettered and unbridled GREED by some lenders, but mostly by the public. The public is the one who demanded the “right” to buy properties that they could not afford. Politicians, who often use OUR tax dollars to buy votes, went right along with the foolish plan. Ask Dodd and Barney Franks how much they garnered off keeping Fannie Mae and Fredy Mac in business. That is OUR tax dollars at work. Unfortunately, those tax dollars were not working for the health and welfare of our country, but the wealth of those Democratic politicians who resisted McCain’s call for scrutiny.
It is wrong to blame the Administration for these excesses when the party in Congress who blocked all reforms was the Democratic party who controlled Congress. It is foolish to not close ranks, as a country, and attempt to work this mess out.
Thirdly, it is time to stop using every problem encountered in America as a political ploy. Terrorists love it when we dice each other up over an issue. They see dissension as a cheap, and effective, tool for creating chaos in our country. In fact, do we even know how much of the economic chaos comes from fear-mongering by others who want to destroy America? When the European markets open “down”, the media hypes the story and creates mass hysteria. How much of the hype is ginned up by those who wish us ill?
So, let’s be honest about this problem. Let’s try to work together and not let this political season destroy any attempt at logical analysis and honest solutions to what has become our communal problem — the economic downturn. We have lived through the Great Depression and many wars. We have many tools at hand, if the politicians will only work as honest brokers. Let’s not let the fear mongers win!
Who cares what Will Rogers would do? The personality was a socialist, extolled the virtues of Mussolini–as did many other American progressives of his day–and tickled the ears of his listeners. My goodness Pinkerton, what’s going to be your next topic: “What did Woodrow Wilson do to preserve the Bill of Rights during the First World-War and should we follow his lead now?”
I just want to comment on “comment by Mark”, who is so far left ideologically opinionated. He just doesn’t understand, just like Obama, that you cannot stand up for the people if you are so blindly guided by far left ideology. You cannot raise Taxes, and he will, and spend more than a Trillion Dollars in Govt. spending and expect the country to come out of a recession. It will only create a deeper recession or a depression.
Wake Up idiot. The same change vote was championed by Jimmy Carter in 1976, change for the sake of change, does not mean it’s the right thing to do, and look what where that got us.
Thank goodness for President Ronald Reagan in 1980. And everytime there is only Democrats running the Congress and the White House, look where that gets us. Incompetence and Corruption runs amok!!
All I have to say is, if Obama gets elected and the same corrupt Democrats in Congress;
ie: Barney Franks and Nancy Pelosi, gets re-elected, good luck and hold on to your wallets for the next 2-4 years.
Sonny
The whole finanacial crises stems from a couple of things. One of course is predatory lenders, mos of whome should be in jail, but the biggest cause is Americans being greedy, and that includes all those people that should have known better than to take out loans and buy houses they couldn’t afford to pay for. I know that sounds harsh, but just how many of us did that in the last five or six years? Plenty, just as so many Americans carry a huge credit card debt, or have no savings, or cry foul when the free ride is over and it’s time to pay the piper.
If you only have a beer budget you can’t afford champagne, folks!!
If you really want to change things in Washington change the congress. Every state should feel that they’re representatives are looking out more for their self and their party than they are for the people they represent.
They have completely dropped the ball. They can blame the president all they want but they still write the laws, the problems we are facing are their fault.
A few more facts that need to be visited concerning the “Trillions lost in stocks…where did it go” article. In ages past, governments, tribal leaders etc… set the price of their mediums of exchange, whether it be gold or whatever. We now have a quasi-transparent,global trading and exchange system thanks to the free traders and agressive multilateral trade agreements.I usually do not like what Jesse Jackson has to say,but recently he said something very astute.”When capital is globalized,it runs downhill”.In other words, the lowest common denominator will be found for capital in such a transparent system. Now if we add to that open trade concept the reality of cartelized oil, diamonds, and many other commodities one can judge that “the few” are controlling the means of production and can,by cutting back production, control the prices of them.It is a bit of a conundrum but wealth, all wealth,is based upon finite resources, ingenuity, the ability to add a return on investment and good housekeeping standards, among many other tangible things. It is not imaginary. Some would argue the opposite.
Just for one minute imagine a world that has only one currency (all are easily converted to others with a few keystrokes,so the point is moot). In this “free trade” global business environment one commodity is important, above all. That would be petroleum. All nation states need it for their respective industrial bases.Only a few can reliably export it.Those few determine the value of a barrel of oil, denominated in the world’s global, fiat paper currency the US dollar,by withholding production or opening the spigots.Since all nations must participate in the quasi- transparent global trading system and,by default, use the global fiat currency, all nations are affected by the OPEC cartel’s decisions. In fact, we now have a global currency backed (rather influenced) by,not gold but, black gold.Even if a nation state is 100% green and uses, for example geothermic heat like Iceland does for much of its’ power, the cartels still have a dire affect upon them as well because of the high cost of oil-related tech inputs and all other means of production.Iceland is now searching for emergency loans from Russia, another rich oil-exporting nation,by the way. If a few countries are allowed to participate without adhering to the rules, like China, and they fix their currencies instead of float them or commit other protective practices, then the global trade environment will experience distortion. China is now a rich nation(much of it our money),and is presently fairly resilient to this capital/credit crunch/liquidity disaster because of such distortions in trade.Because we have not pressured the Chinese enough on the issues of their currency, standards of pay for their workers and other “human rights” issues we are now locked into an uncomfortable relationship with them:they buy our debt and we don’t rock the boat too much.I guess the reasoning in DC is that we can always just print more of the fiat currency, creating inflation, and pay them back in increasingly valueless paper, therby transferring a large portion of our debt to the the debt holders worldwide.
We have been in bed with the Chinese and OPEC far too long. “The few” have constructed this global trade regime in order to fill their own pockets using cheap labor in China and around the world. This is no level playing field. So…when you are told that your 401k values just disappeared,DON’T BELIEVE IT!You were sold up the river, into economic slavery by “the few”.Plan on working until you drop dead, folks. It’s not going to change because “they” control the gold and the guns.
“Another option” also has it right.
Please remember that there are potentially better choices than Democrats or Republicians. I for one like what I’m reading about The Constitution Party. Smaller government, respect for life, freedom of conscience for the self-governing individual, respect for the government set up by our founding fathers, american sovereignty. Obviously it will be different for everyone but please don’t just concede your vote to the democrats or republicians…THERE ARE OTHER CHOICES….MAYBE IT’S TIME FOR A REAL CHANGE!
What would Will Rogers do? If Mr. Rogers noticed bankers are no longer consevative, he would probably also notice “conservatives” don’t seem interested in conserving anything (Except “Their own power” my 13 year-old niece recently noted.) For some reason, this fact escapes most Americans.
The bankers did what 80% of humans do when put in the position of handling huge quantities of money with no oversight; they made decisions that benefited themselves and their colleagues. Nothing conservative or liberal about it.
If a human can hijack the mechanisms of state to serve his or her own agendas, with little or no chance of detection, 80% of humans will do so. The bankers paid lobbyists to make certain the State kowtowed to their wishes.
I think this little financial blip/Greater Depression will leave us with a particularly poetic souvenir of our time under the Bush/Cheney regime!
Oh yeah: big party, January 20, 2009, Dancing in the streets WORLDWIDE, not just stateside!
After the Stimulus Checks, He would of told Obama To Keep his Big Mouth Shut.
When they gave out the stimulus checks a Responsible Government Official would of Talk Optimistically, encourage the people to spend their checks, Talking up the economy.
Obama continue with his Gloom and Doom, telling the people how bad they had it, who to blame and that he could fix it if he was president. professing to the world the US was in financial distress.
Bad judgment and irresponsible.
Two things, he is lying and has no idea what to do, or he knows and won’t unless he is elected. If he does know and fails to anything until he is elected, then he should never be president or should he be a US Senator.
I know George Soros did this kind of thing and broke the bank of england, tried with an Asian bank and others. If he is behind it he should be thrown out of the country and obama along with him.
I know completely changing the monetary system to another, (change money) deregulate, raise the wealthy tax and business and lower others, will increase value of the new money, reduce inflation, and begin to stabilize the economy. That is what the Germans did post war. That or make sure George Soros or others are not playing the stock markets with the intent to break the system.
Plus tell Obama to keep his mouth shut,
Mark
Don’t be surprised these folks don’t remember Reagan’s platform; they don’t remember that just three weeks ago McCain said he was proud of his history as a leader of the deregulation movement and that deregulation had improved the economy!?!
One must be able to believe and forget an enourmous amount of contradictory doublespeak before breakfast in order to be a McCain supporter.
Too bad sensible democrats like Rogers weren’t in charge instead of the “mavericky” repulicans who stripped regulations (including regulations requiring banking to be local) and hamstrung inspectors with budget cuts and inappropriate political appointments.
This multi billion bailout would have been better spent just
giving each person in the US a few million.
and how can you faithful republicans not remember that THE CENTRAL platform in the Reagan and Bush Jr. platforms was DEREGULATION!! I work in the financial industry and choked on my coffee every time I listened to a speech about how these guys (Wall Street CEO’s) were really honorable guys and we just needed to unshackle them from evil regulations. REMEMBER??? It was called “Trickle Down Economics”!!!
You people make me laugh. as a loyalist to a party you should have the guts to not deny your own platform when it backfires. Maybe thinking about this will give you a clue as to why your guy is losing now by double digits. NOBODY buys your BS (except Fox, of course).
Will Rodgers - just as Mark Twain and others - relied on the common man to solve problems. Not politicians - and that includes Presidents. THERE IS NO SINGLE CANDIDATE THAT DID RUN, OR IS RUNNING NOW, WHO HAS ALL THE ANSWERS OR WHO CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. The President sets policy - but Congress holds the check book.
OTHER THEN THE MILITARY - THERE IS NO ONE GOVERMENTAL AGENCY THAT DOES ANYTHING WELL. AND ALL ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO MANIPULATION BY POLITICIANS with separate agendas.
A. RECALL OR VOTE YOUR HOUSE AND SENATORS OUT WHO DON’T VOTE - THUS REPRESENT - THEIR CONSTITUTANTS! That’s how you’ll control the government.
These politicians, news media talking heads and greedy bankers are talking about removing from our control the most valued chunk of national sovereignty that any nation possesses…control over its’ currency. There is now talk of getting homeland security involved because of the ALLEGED magnitude of this problem.People, they are creating this panic for a reason. These people are like a bunch of thieves running from a burning house (yes, they set the fire too) grabbing everything they can as they exit. They will need a new, bigger house from which to base their criminal operations. To create and capitulate to an international banking authority that has veto power over our lawmakers will be the end of the USA as a nation. International law will specifically govern such an organization.Multi-lateral organizations often grant a type of immunity to their employees that will render them “untouchable”.Further, the media will have little access to such an organization’s inner workings…
I suggest that the next step in their gamebook is to declare a national emergency…Homeland security and FEMA can,and will, suspend the constitution and bill of rights under such and emergency, and the country will be run under martial law.Soldiers in the streets and the implementation of mandatory military service…a draft.
Mass expropriation of private property could occur in order to ensure the continuity of government. This is,of course, the near-worst case scenario. The worst case scenario is that all of you people out there will take this BS to heart and run to the bank and yank your cash out in preference for a coffee can under your bed. Then you can call your financial advisor and sell off your 401 k stocks at a huge loss.(Many have already done this.I heard one female announcer on Fox say last week that “the only ones who have not yet transferred their 401k stocks to cash denominated accounts are the lazy ones…” Well I guess I am in that class because I did not touch anything that I have.) When there is a run on the banks then the Fed will suspend withdrawls. Brother…can you spare a dime?
I see this “crisis” for what it is…THE BIGGEST TRAIN ROBBERY IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD…the actions of the few in the last several years will jeopardize the ability of the many to retire comfortably.Yet,their actions are serving to increase and consolidate their hold upon the manufacturing, banking, financial and corporate bases worldwide. The federal reserve bank is accountable to no one. It is simply a group of very rich individuals that dispatch their very talented toadies to Washington at the beginning of each new Presidential administration to do their will. Test this theory and try to distinguish one act ever committed by any federal reserve chair or FOMC that has not benefitted big banking and business in this country. They say it is to help the average consumer/axpayer…which all sounds good and welll. However, usury enslaves.Does the shoe fit?
What we are all witnessing before our very eyes is the birth of world government. Until now,the abity of nation states to coordinate their fiscal policies with other nations has been voluntary. In other words, it has been de facto, not de jure, global co ordination. We have been working with stone axes and bear skins. The free traders want global transparency in all tariff regimes in order to increase exports, enhance their profits, increase price competitveness, establish brand recognition and loyalty and seize market shares all over the world.THEY DO NOT SEE YOU AS ANYTHING MORE OR LESS THAN A CONSUMER OF THEIR PRODUCTS.
WRITE TO YOUR CONGRESS PERSON (WHO ARE MOST LIKELY IN CAHOOTS WITH THESE PEOPLE) AND TELL THEM “NO TO MEMBERSHIP IN A GLOBAL BANKING AUTHORITY!!!!”
Also, make no mistake about it, Bush screwed up the U.S. economy by invading IRAQ and putting the country deep into debt and destroying our country’s credibility around the world, but if you think Bush is bad, Obama will completely destroy what’s left of our economy and international security.
First of all, his economic plan of raising Taxes, and he will, will sufficate any growth that will be needed to get us out of this recession, causing the country to go into a depression, as he spends more than a TRILLION DOLLARS in govt. programs.
Second, he does not have the Judgement and Wisdom that comes from experience when he has to make the decisions pertaining to U.S. and International affairs. And make no mistake, like Bill Clinton, he will slash the Military to help pay for all of his Govt. programs, thereby putting our National Security at risk against IRAN, China, and North Korea, as well as Al Qaeda.

James it’s thinking like your that keeps this country from being what it could be. You partisan scum.

Will Rogers also said “Thank God we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.”
Someone commented that they are looking for a bigger mattress to hide their money. A small mattress will do for the little money I have left.
I will again remind you of what Lenin said when he wrote his book on markism, ” Give me A liberal news media ‘Ill take America with out fireing A shot. You have it in Obama. A die hard socialist. Have fun you people who will vote for him I’ll be gone. I still hate to think how my offsprings are going to suffeer
The communists are at the door, and they are tricky to actually let the people vote for it.
Alaska Governor and vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin is the recipient of harsh criticism from former Secretary of State and UN Ambassador Madeleine K. Albright after Albright was misquoted at a Saturday rally in Carson, California.
“What advice do you have for women who want respect from their male colleagues?” Dana Philbin of Chicago asked Albright for a January piece in Time Magazine.
“Women have to be active listeners and interrupters,” she responded, “but when you interrupt, you have to know what you are talking about. I also think it is important for women to help one another. I have a saying: There is a special place in hell for women who don’t.”
“There’s a place in Hell reserved for women who don’t support other women,” Palin said on Saturday, rewording a version of the same quote on another source: a Starbucks coffee cup.
“Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom,” Albright told the Huffington Post, “what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden.”
Can’t believe it - a Fox News opinion piece that I fully agree with!
It’s obvious that both parties are responsible for the situation were in. Obama wants to blame deregulation when really it was the government getting involved forcing banks to give loans to people that obviously couldn’t pay them back that was the problem. The republicans who are suppose to be deregulators never said anything about it in the last 8 years they ran the show, and are equally guilty. Both Mccain and Obama signed the presidents bail out, that the majority of this country has said they don’t want. That shows you they arn’t going to represent us when there in office. Why do we act like the only option is Democrat or Republican. Thats only true if we let it be. This two party system is an illegal monopoly of our government that is not what the founding fathers had in mind. They created seperate branches so that no one group controlled the country. Please check out the libertarian party and some of there stances on the issues, expecially economic issues.
Meet the Adviser Stabbing at McCain’s Self-destruct Button
Want the most destructive assessment you can get of a John McCain policy proposal? Just ask McCain’s own senior policy adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, a formerly serious economist who has turned himself into a genuine political disaster. For months, the McCain campaign implied its health-care plan would be budget-neutral. But last weekend, Douglas Holtz-Eakin admitted to The Wall Street Journal that to fill the gap between the tax deductions McCain wants to end and the tax credits he wants to offer, a new Republican administration will have to cut something like $1.3 trillion from Medicare and Medicaid over the next ten years. Missed that bombshell? Democrats working Florida didn’t.
In September, Holtz-Eakin infamously claimed that McCain helped create the BlackBerry, but his big gaffes go further back. In June, he conceded that offshore drilling wouldn’t affect oil supplies or prices anytime soon. In July, he submitted a budget plan to the Washington Post assuming McCain — the guy who says a withdrawal timetable would lead to genocide — will cut $150 billion a year from deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan by 2013. And when the Tax Policy Center discovered a $2.8 trillion gap between McCain’s public proposals and his formal policies, Holtz-Eakin replied that just because McCain says something “doesn’t mean it’s official.” Result: headlines like “McCain May Not Speak for the McCain Campaign on the Economy.”
And this week? Here’s how Holtz-Eakin described McCain’s new mortgage buy-up plan on Wednesday: “We would in fact be taking the negative equity position and putting it on the taxpayers’ books.” Tasty!
In the old days, a bank would welcome a savings account for a 12 year old with a paper route (and a co-signer.) It taught kids to save. Saving leads to investing.
Now banks want only those customers who have megabucks. Savings accounts for them; not for the little guy. Smaller accounts - even “little” like $10,000, get nickel-and-dimed to death. People are turning to local banks and credit unions, mostly because…customers can tell when we’re not welcome. Let me tell the executives at the big banks: a bank that won’t welcome a kid’s savings account isn’t worth my time, either. No sympathy for the banking giants. And I have news for you, too: if I were to win the lottery, or to invest so well that I cashed in, bigtime, I still wouldn’t use your services. I’d put my money in a place where small accounts aren’t treated as offal.
Furthermore: give the 700 million to banks that actually treat their customers well enough to offer and encourage small accounts - not to encourage the use of money-stealing plastic - and which won’t bleed their smaller customers into insolvency. Let the big banks fall on their butts, and get sucked down the sewer hole of history. Good riddance!
John “Democrat lite” McCain has waged a pathetic campaign and deserves to lose.
Obama, the socialist, didn’t deserve to win the nomination.
America is the loser.

Thank you for those quotes. Mr. Rogers was indeed insightful and funny; I now know why my grandparents loved him so much!
