McCain Needs to Connect at Tonight’s Debate. Can He Pull It Off?
By Betsy Newmark

For Republicans who are hoping that John McCain will be able to turn the trajectory of this campaign around tonight, I would advise them not to get their hopes up. I wouldn’t depend on John McCain’s supposed superior ability to do town hall-type discussions. Barack Obama has been improving and he’ll probably show the same skill he showed in answering questions in the first debate.
And I wouldn’t expect John McCain to launch into negative attacks on Obama’s questionable associations with a whole series of radical people who seem to despise America. McCain doesn’t like making these attacks and I wouldn’t be surprised if he neglected the opportunity tonight to bring up those accusations. It’s one thing to have your vice presidential candidate bring up that sort of stuff, but it’s another to do it in front of a town hall debate when the questioners will probably be asking questions about all the issues that concern people today.
The whole situation calls out for a serious discussion of the many problems facing the incoming president and not for attacks on your opponent’s ties with some pretty questionable people. McCain can point out how inexperienced Obama is and how scanty a record he actually has, but people seem to have already absorbed that truth about Obama and dismissed it. They might have doubts about his lack of a record but they seem ready to roll the dice.
Also, don’t discount the possibility of having some off-the-wall gooey sort of question that calls on the candidates to eschew partisan divisiveness. John Dickerson of Slate reminds us of that goofy question asked in 1992 by the so-called pony-tail guy who asked George H.W. Bush, Ross Perot, and Bill Clinton this marvelous question:
Referring to voters as “symbolically the children of the future president,” he asked how voters could expect the candidates “to meet our needs, the needs in housing and in crime and you name it, as opposed to the wants of your political spin doctors and your political parties. … Could we cross our hearts? It sounds silly here but could we make a commitment? You know, we’re not under oath at this point, but could you make a commitment to the citizens of the U.S. to meet our needs—and we have many—and not yours again?”
Ugh! I hope we won’t hear such vapidity again tonight, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear a question about how these two men might work together with those of the other party to address our nation’s problems. And in that sort of environment it’s even harder for John McCain to explain why America shouldn’t turn itself over to undivided Democratic control of the legislative and executive branches.
This is an opportunity for John McCain to explain how his policies are better for the country. He needs to clarify his health care plan which the Obama campaign has been mischaracterizing. He needs to explain why raising taxes on the wealthy isn’t a path to grow our economy in the face of a looming recession. He needs to show that he connects to the worries that people have about their pensions, investments, chances of getting a loan for a car or college or a house. That isn’t something that John McCain has ever shown himself adept at doing. So, in the face of bad deficits in the polls, he has an extremely difficult job in front of himself tonight. Barack Obama, however, has to just do no harm. So don’t expect the campaign to radically shift after tonight.

It is so disturbing to me that the American people are not concerned about Obama’s past! People are buying into his whole idea of “change”. Capitalism in America does not need to be changed, we just need to weed out the dishonesty and greed. I support John McCain, but I do hope he can connect with the American people tonight. He is definitely not the best speaker, but he is much more knowledgable. American people need to do their homework and really learn the policies of the two candidates. I know what each of them stand for. I don’t need a debate to show me that! Sarah Palin did an excellent job of connecting with the American people. That part was easy for her, because she is one of the middle class. I am praying that John McCain will do a great job tonight and that the American people will open their eyes!-Trina, Pro-Life, Pro-family, McCain/Palin!!
Of course each candidate is hoping to “connect” (what a cliche) with voters tonight. However, because Senator McCain has been in politics a long time, we all know him and have a pretty good idea of his policies. I can’t understand why anyone would say that McCain needs to explain his positions on anything.
The question for voters should be to make Senator Obama explain HIS policies. His referring to his web page for a more explicit explanation is tantamount to saying, “Here. Ask my advisers to explain it because I really don’t know!”
Voters should insist that Obama explain his entire history — the divergence between what he writes in a book and says on the stump. He should explain why he wrote a frontpiece for Ayers’ book. He should explain why he took so long to repudiate Pastor Wright and his hate-America theology. Obama should explain why he feels free to criticize some of us for “clinging to our guns” when he faces a different, “elite” audience.
No one knows who the senator from Illinois truly is because the media fails to look into stories that are counter to the Obama mystique. And, the lack of a free and unbiased press is the problem. Even today, the Drudge is reporting that Corsi, a reporter who has written about Obama before, is being detained in Kenya because Corsi’s next release is not favorable to Obama! What kind of world is this?
Senator McCain is a known quantity. Senator Obama is not. If the media did its job, maybe these questions would be answered because, right now, no one knows who the Democratic nominee is.
This is what McCain should focus on:
This election is a referendum on Obama, the inexperienced and unknown candidate. With a razor-thin resume and a history of voting ‘present’, we would be playing Russion Roulette with our future.
Let’s consider the economy under an Obama/Pelosi administration. Obama’s economic policies, if he is elected, will push us over the edge into another Great Depression. Instead of lifting up the lower and middle-class, he’ll pull everyone down. The wealthy will relocate their assets; businesses will close or relocate out of the country; jobs will be lost; raises and benefits will be reduced or eliminated. The programs he has promised with one trillion dollars of new spending will not be implemented as there will be no money to fund them. The premature withdrawal from Iraq will enable Al Quaeda to regain control, we’ll be forced to go back and start over and then we will be stuck fighting TWO wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
At some point he should segue to the Democrats’ major role in this financial debacle and then reiterate his cosponsorship of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005.
Pound home the result of four years with Obama at the helm: we will descend into another Great Depression.
Senator McCain has ignored the lessons that should have been learned from the democratic primaries. Namely, that experience will not defeat Senator Obama. Senator Clinton, realized, too late, that the only avenue to success versus Senator Obama was to actively attack Sen. Obama’s policies, his character, and his judgement. Until and unless Sen. McCain can articulate and distinguish the differences between himself and Sen. Obama he will be perceived as a “politician” who is committed to working inside the framework of the Washington enviroment and is NOT significantly different than the rest of the Washington herd. In order to overcome the lead that Sen. Obama has established, Sen. McCain needs to directly address and attack the liberal agenda that is proposed by the democratic nominee and party. He needs to address these issues in a very blunt and straightforward manner, not Washington speak. The time for generalities and high minded rhetoric is over. To reach middle America, McCain needs to demonstrate, plainly and simply, what this country would be like with Senator Obama as president and what effect an Obama presidency would have on main street. Unless Senator McCain is willing to become confrontational and speak boldly he will most certainly lose this election. The debate tonight offers him an opportunity to begin this new “staight talk” policy and I certainly hope he avails himself of the opportunity for by doing so he will be able to “connect” with voters, who like myself, are tired of the “talking points” and want to hear some “real and un-filtered” answers from the candidates.
I fear that John McCain has let his campaign get away from him. It’s now in the hands of his campaign managers. And they have decided on a negative attack strategy that I had always thought John disagres with. We are facing hard economic times that need all of us to respect one another. Bringing on a negative campaign through a surrogate VP is not what the USA needs now. I hope (but don’t expect) to see John McCain vow to respect his opposition and talk about how we can pull together to get out of this mess.
Subject: 7 1/2 years of George Bush
TO ALL MY FRIENDS….LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE..
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000 +
5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!…
But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress
and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT
PORTFOLIOS!
YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE GOT IT! …..
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.
AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO
REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!
JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?
Mccain’s Toast!!!
That Palin woman has just shot Mccain in the foot !!! she should give up her NRA licence hah ahh!!!
On a more serious note, I am disappointed in McCain and has woeful campaign, I have followed John scince 99-2000 and back then thought that when given his chance he would show his qualities and why he should be President.
Scince getting the nomination back in April he has shown exactly why no-one shoul let him near the White House!!!
McCain should take it away tonight, but won’t. Unfortunately for him, the media has already put the onus on him to prevail with all his ‘town hall experience’, but McCain is never going to steal it from Obama. Unless he pulls out a corking perfomance, or Obama screws up real bad, I agree with the author it probably won’t change much, and could possibly tilt for Obama again.
I don’t think McCain will make overly negative comments about Obama’s past associates but he can do what he has been doing out on the campaign trail and that is tell the millions of voters of how Obama is involved with Acorn, how Acorn was involved with Fannie Freddie and how Fannie Freddie started this whole economy crisis. He also needs to show where Obama has normally raised taxes so he could spend more government money on the welfare programs. This all goes back to voting record and what little of record that Obama has, is not going to back up what Obama has been saying. Obama says what he needs to so that people will vote for him but his past shows completely different.
John Mccain had better start showing some of the personal determination and discipline that carried him through five years of confinement in Hanoi. It would be fine to keep his senatorial composure if he had the press and other outside parties working on his behalf, he does not, his opponent does. If he does not take Obama to task using every truthfully based, objectionable issue available his chances of becoming President are looking pretty poor. What jeapordy does he have, if he is looking at defeat anyway, to frequently and fully discussing Obama’s questionable associations. He must do this in addition to pressing his plan for the future.
Good article, you are right that Obama does does not have to do any harm during the debate. But what about the harm he will do to this country if he is elected? That, I believe, is the true question.
It will be interesting to see if Mr. McCain will be able to control his temper and outright contempt for Mr. Obama. The last debate was very difficult to watch and it was clear you could see Mr. McCain during the debate fighting his inner demons. I watched the debate a second time through with the sound off and it was overwhelming.
Since the second debate is a town hall meeting, a format that Mr. McCain excels in, perhaps this will put him at greater ease. I’m looking forward to hearing about the economy and the substantive plans and policies from each of these two men. I’m looking forward to hearing about their healthcare programs for the middle class and small business owners (me).
There is a lot at stake in this election. Like many times throughout history.

McCain needs to sound like a better statesman than Barack Obama.
Given his peevish performance at the last debate, and his snitty accusations of (garg) ‘terrorism’ vis-a-vis Obama, I don’t hold out much hope for this.
We never should have let this guy get nominated - he’s exactly the loose cannon everyone said he was. Maybe even a little twisted. Next time: a real Republican.
http://www.digitalsurvivors.com/archives/communistbodycount.php
Learn from world history!
Betsy you’re an idiot. You deserve McPain for your stupid comments.
When John McCain said he accepted Barack Obama’s denouncement of Rev. Wright, I was pleased to see what I consider the real John McCain, but other than that, I’ve had far more respect for McCain the man and Senator than McCain the candidate. I never thought that this man, who was swift-boated by W. Bush (before the term was coined) would ever employ the same tactics and people responsible for this for his campaign. Hugely disappointing. I will be voting for Obama.
Thank goodness McCain and Palin are finally taking off the gloves. Like millions of Americans I’ve awaited the truth, while feeling frustration watching Obama get a free ride. Subjects like Wright, Farrakhan, Pfleger, Rezko, Ayers, and others, seem to have been off limits for discussion, when they go to the core of who Obama is. In defense of Obama, the media treats him like a sacred cow, and implies that since these subjects were visited at one time, they’re not fair game to revisit … but, why not? Like millions of Americans I’ve never been comfortable with Obama attending Jeremiah Wright’s church for TWENTY YEARS … suddenly quitting for political expediency, and then claiming that he never heard the racist, anti-American sermons going on there. Also, the Trintity church website has since sanitized it’s previous links on the ‘Black Values System’ … and, the ‘Black Liberation Theology’ which Obama sworn an oath to for TWENTY YEARS.
Senator McCain ,get huge on this chump tonight , and pound his wrong a%# into the carpet ! Tomorrow ,we will all refer to this debate as the Nobama Music City Meltdown !!
McCain must be proactive in drawing the distinctions between his and Obama’s approach to the economy and health care–point-by-popint, side-by-side–with a clear explanation of why his plans are better. The economy is the elephant in the room. To not address it, and instead continue to bray about Obama’s shady character connections and his weakness on Iraq and national defense–while legitimate–would be suicide. If the town hall questioners bring up those issues, then McCain should by all means answer them straight on. But, McCain’s real need is to clearly articulate why his plan for taxation, spending, and social conservatism are better for this country.
It will be very difficult for Senator McCain to ‘connect’ to the average person who doesn’t own seven (7) houses and is not endanger of losing any of them. It will be very difficult for Senator McCain to ‘connect’ to the average person by offering them a tax break of a few hundred dollars a year when he is offering the Wall Street millionaires tax breaks in the tens of thousands of dollars.
One issue why neither new president is talking? There are so many unanswered major problems about the invasion, from education, housing, food stamps, welfare payments, the criminal element and taking American jobs.
What pariah employers of illegal alien hires don’t pay for and you taxpayers do.
Why do illegal aliens get free health care, when according to a (AARP) American Association of Retired people report. A legal citizen in Seattle is struggling to pay $10,000 worth of medicine to stay alive. My son who has Autism takes a drug that cost $950.00 a month. A lady I know has bi-polar and other health issues and drugs that costs $6000.00 a limited medical insurance.Yet illegal aliens can walk into any emergency room and receive free hospital care, prescription drugs, hospitalization and be completely free of any medical bills. American on the other hand are hassled by debt collectors, garnishment of wages and court appearances, because they have a social security number.
Now the middle class already overburdened with war appropriation funds, is still force to pay for the education, free health-care and Federal, state welfare handouts for illegal criminals. SIGN UP FOR THE SAVE ACT(H.R.4088) enforcement ‘ONLY’ law at http://www.numbersusa.com.

I for one voted for both Bushes and Reagan twice, so I can’t be accused of being a liberal, but I am concerned that trickle down economics is at best a failure. The only trickle down that happened was what accidentally slipped through their fingers because they were carrying too much out to their trucks. This idea of no regulations or rules on big business has just been a license to steal. The finance industry is a great example. Now the middle class tax payers are bailing out the rich for their greedy mistakes. What was the kicker for me is that John McCain not only wants to continue the current tax breaks for the rich but add to them. Since the rich have most of the money it is time that they paid their share. That would be patriotic. At best trickle down economic is a legal license to rob from the poor and give to the rich. Besides that I don’t like the way the McCain camp has started inciting the people. It isn’t the John McCain that I knew. Think he has picked poor advisors and a president is only as good as the people he or she surrounds themselves with. If you do not know something you have to be smart enough to not only listen, but to ask the right questions. By the tone of the McCain camp that is not happening. They are telling and that is not leading.
Senator McCain needs to stress the fact that Mr. Obama has been a senator for less than 2 terms and has been absent for most of that time. While he was in the senate, he does not have the distinction of proposing or passing any major bill. He must also emphasize the difference in his military background as opposed to Obama’s lack of experience needed to be commander in chief. In addition, Senator McCain must reassure the American people that his thirty plus years of service to our country trumps Senator Obama’s quick rise to fortune by way of a host of unsavory “aquaintances” whom he did not know were crooks, terrorists, radical ministers, etc. God bless Senator John McCain and God bless America.
In the newest polls, McCain is way ahead of Obama on issues of Security, Obama is ahead on Economy. This is my view, “Without Security, we don’t have to worry about our Economy!!!” Wake up America!!
McCain/Palin supporter
How about just trusting the most experienced candidate and not voting for one just because he speaks well, or connects with the public. Come on people wake up we need John Mccain to lead us through these touch times, not an inexperienced socialist.
This has alway’s been the process of any election. The American public have the right to know who,and what they are voting for. Alot of this could have been avoided if Obama would have done the town hall debates at the begining of this run for office, but he refused. In this day,and age where you can get all kinds of information on the internet questions have been raised about Obama. His far left history, his known associations with radicals. This is an unknown candidate that will be running our country. To not find out about his views and history would be wrong on our part as American citizens.
His own books have raised questions about his beliefs, and views. His refusal to release documents itself raises questions about the real person. If Obama has nothing to hide then there should be no problem with releasing this information. I not only blame him I also blame main stream media for not being fair, and balanced in their reporting.

John Mccain needs to be able to have some facts to back him up when it comes to Obama’s tax plan. Too many times Obama is able to say broad statements like; anyone making less than 250k won’t be taxed” I don’t believe Obamas tax plan is what he says it is and Mccain needs to hit home with Facts. Facts, Facts, just the facts man. Maccain can’t let Obama get away with BS broad statements.
Also I believe Mccain needs to be able to hit home about the Democratic lead congress is who is responsible for the mortgage crises because they were the ones that were in charge of oversite, Dodd, Frank and Schumer need to be exposed for how they pressured Fannie May to give loans that shouldn’t have been made. Mccain tried to change but they, the Democrats blocked the reform Mccain tried to make.
Third, I think Mccain needs to discuss how he will reform Washington, how he is going to be able to get something done.
Without a major game changer (like Israel taking out Iran) I think the race is over. Obama has lied his way into the lead, never provides specifics, and simply repeats the McCain=Bush lie and the press eat it up. We are going to see the least qualified person as POTUS in the history of this country. You think times are bad now? Glenn Beck is right - a return to 1929 is around the corner and, as people get desperate, a return to 1860 is right behind that. The USA will go the way of the USSR in the next 4 years.
Randall, et all;
What may people fail to realize is that 35% of citizens pay NO income tax.
That leaves 65%, of which 10% (overall) or 16% of the 65%, pay like 85%+ of the taxes.
The “rich” if you want to call this 10% pay MOST of the taxes. So how much more should they pay…
It is no wonder that if taxes go up then people move their money off-shore to avoid them. If i was footing the bill for 85%+ and someone said you need to pay more, I would do the same.
Unfortunately for McCain the current international financial crisis has switched the main focus of voters from the wars to the economy. The focus on economics will only become more intense as Americans receive their 3rd quarter retirement fund statements in the next couple weeks. When people who have been diligently investing for retirement for decades realize that 20-30% of their savings have been wiped out by the recent drop in the stock market they’re going to be afraid, and angry. Obama’s more populist tax and economic policies are going to resonate with voters, while McCain’s ties to Bush and the past 8 years of Republican rule which helped set up this financial disaster are likely to drag him down.
McCain will ignore the question and start talking about his POW days again - he makes it sound like he’s the only person to be a POW - he’s getting quite sickening - just like his VP.

Thinking on the bailout vote last week, the government of the people, by the people, and for the people completely disregarded the will of the American people and both Barack Obama and John McCain where at the middle of it. Both see themselves as kings and not servants. Neither will deliver positive change. Both used their influence in the House to over-ride the wishes of the people. How can we the people vote for either of them?
If we are going to discuss”character”issues then not only should we talk about what a slight, social aquaintance was doing when Obama was 8 years old,but also about a man leaving the wife who had raised his kids while he was a POW, stood by him during his recovery, and was in a wheel chair when her philandering husband left her for a wealthy, much younger woman. Now that is a “Character” issue….Oh perhaps not because that was John McCain…
“The “rich” if you want to call this 10% pay MOST of the taxes. So how much more should they pay…
It is no wonder that if taxes go up then people move their money off-shore to avoid them. If i was footing the bill for 85%+ and someone said you need to pay more, I would do the same.”
Country First!!!
“It’s one thing to have your vice presidential candidate bring up that sort of stuff,” - so is it ok for Joe Biden to go out saying Sarah Palin’s husband was a member of the Alaska Independence Party which wants to secede from the Union? McCain has lost all credibility in the past few days by having Sarah Palin play in mud. Now I didn’t even know of the Keating 5 case, but this whole issue has brought that up and I am glad I got a glimpse of where this guy comes from. I guess McCain needs to apologize or else I don’t know how can he remove the negativeness he has brought up on him. To give him the benefit of doubt, I suspect he does not have any control over the campaign anymore. It has been taken over by the guys who ran the Bush administration.
I used to have respect for McCain but, not anymore.
McCain doesn’t talk about the issues. Right from the start of the campaign, he has had nothing but negitive ads. And now that Obama is starting to push back, people are complaigning.
I am so sick of McCain’s lies it’s not even funny.
McCain picking Palin as his VP is a slap in the face to women everywhere since she is nothing but a joke. The world is laughing at us.
Good job there McCain.
We are tired of old crusty and Barry the straw man.
THIS MADE ME THINK!
Just passing it along.
Subject: Revelations Chapter 13
Rev. Chapter 13
This will make you re-think: A Trivia question in Sunday School:
How long is the beast allowed to have authority in Revelations?
Revelations Chapter 13 tells us it is 42 months, and you know what that is.
Almost a four-year term of a Presidency.
All I can say is ‘Lord, Have mercy on us!’
According to The Book of Revelations the anti-Christ is:
The anti-Christ will be a man, in his 40’s, of MUSLIM descent, who will
deceive the nations with persuasive language, and have a MASSIVE Christ-like appeal…the prophecy says that people will flock to him and he will promise false hope and world peace, and when he is in power, will destroy everything..
Do we recognize this description??
I STRONGLY URGE each one of you to post this as many
times as you can! Each opportunity that you have to send it to a
friend or media outlet.. do it!
I refuse to take a chance on this unknown candidate who
came out of nowhere.
So McBush takes credit for warning about Freddie and Fannie, to close the door after the horses have left the barn. Where were President Chaney and Vice-President Bush? They said that the economy was “sound”. Sounds like B.S. How many Freddie and Fannie lobbyists are on the McBush Election Committee? I guess that when you own more houses than you can count, you do not understand or worry about the Residential Mortgage industry!
First, to Joe Dean: I can certainly see why John McCain’s campaign raising Obama’scharacter issues would be reason to switch a vote to The One who was right in the middle of Fannie & Freddie, partly by virtue of the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, (ACORN), by $120,000 in political contributions from F&F in 2 years, and taking $932,000,000 in earmarks in 2 years as a senator. (Mike Huckbaby said that works out to $1 million per day for every day he’s been in the Senate.
Anyone heartless enough to vote in favor of late-term abortions (sucking the brains out of an unborn baby and crushing his skull) and of withholding care from babies born as the result of a botched abortion doesn’t deserve even consideration for dog-catcher.
It is unfortunate that McCain is being blamed for the economic situation, considering that the warning bells regarding Fannie & Freddie were being sounded, beginning with President Bush when he took office in 2001; and per video replays, repeated by Greenspan and others. TheMcCain-Dole-Nagel Fannie/Freddie reformation bill was voted down by the democrats. I’m convinced that our wonderful country has already been hi-jacked…..Is it time to start practicing “Hail, Hussain” yet?
What does Obama and Osama bin Laden have in common? Both men know someone who bombed the Pentagon!
If we are really lucky John McCain will do that angry chicken dance where he gets all red in the face and flaps his arms non stop.
Remember that Americans only have time for the sound bite…and Obama knows that. We have an incompetent group of voters who care nothing for the facts…regardless of whom they support.
Remember that anything said against Senator Obama is rascist.
I am really disgusted with the Democrats’ responses. Presently Barney Frank is calling the housing problem rascist.
So one other question of the utmost importance about Barack Obama that needs to be answered, fully and without any muddying of the waters or distortion of the facts and that is, is he actually legally considered to be an American citizen, not a naturalized citizen, but truly born an American citizen? And before anyone asks if I know what it means to be born a U.S. citizen abroad, yes, I do, I have two children who fall in this category. They however, have a record of their birth abroad, the document is called a Consular Report of Birth Abroad , which we obtained through the American Embassy. This essentially is the same as a birth certificate issued to those born here in the U.S.
Has any independent party, really authenticated Barak Obama’s record of birth? If not, then I can’t imagine why not and if so, how about publicizing the findings for all to read? It would be the ultimate embarrassment if he should be elected and we find out after the fact that he is not entitled to hold the office of the President of the United States of America due to a citizenship issue…I’ve tried to make sense of this myself based on public information, but Barak’s early years are so vague and he apparently lived in many places, not to mention was adopted by his step-father who was Indonesian and therefore Barak was potentially subject to assuming Indonesian citizenship because of the age he was adopted. Not sure how much of this is true, however, I don’t think something as important as citizenship authentication should be overlooked for someone who is running for the highest office of our country. Not sure why he can’t just produce either a certified copy of his original birth certificate or a certified copy of his Consular Report of Birth Abroad, if he was in fact born abroad??
McCain’s associations with Gordon Liddy and Keating are far more relevant that Obama’s knowing someone who committed a crime 40 years ago. I don’t understand how any thinking Republican cannot see that McCain has not just guilt by association but actual guilt– he expressed remorse for the Keating involvement at the time. Either he was lying then, or NOW.
Remember Gordon Liddy? Campaign fraud and crime, anyone?
As for Wright– what about Palin’s witch doctor pastor, or the Jews for Jesus pastor who blames the Jews for not accepting Jesus as the cause of the problems in the middle east? If Obama’s “guilty” for what Wright says, than so is she. Pot, kettle? And what about her husband wanting to secede from the union?
Sorry but once you start digging, McCain looks far more venal, hypocritical and untrustworthy. HE”S the elitist– forget graduating in the top ten percent of his class, he didn’t even graduate in the top HALF. He wouldn’t even have BEEN a POW if he had followed orders and flown carefully. He has seven houses and over 10 cars. The man does not care about the middle class, he doesn’t even know anyone in the middle class. Wake up, folks.
To Larry Linn
President Bush did bring it to the attention to congress nine times.
Remember, legislation begins in the House.

Careful but your envy is showing. What difference does it makes how many homes he and/or his wife owns? And quite frankly, I am not concerned about the majority of them presently losing their homes…I agree, too many should not have been in them in the first place. I have had more than one mortgage and worked to pay for them and did not ask the Federal government to bail me out!!
But if you are concerned about someone having too many homes, how about someone having a very big home on a senator’s salary? You worry about your candidate, which if you really study the individual you will have gray hair when you are finished !!
To Rick W
How rude!! Let someone do to you what was done to him and you will be lucky to ‘flap your arms.’
Shameful and disrespectful, regardless of who this would be directed to.
John McCain better do a actor’s performance tonight or he is finished and he knows it. And if he is finished tonight so are the American people. You may ask me why….it is because what B.Obama
is not telling the american people what he and democratic congress plans to do. He wants to tax
the rich, tax businesses and will eventually tax the middle class because he plans a 800 billion to
1 trillion spending. This of course is ridiculous. There is no way, he will get that money from taxing
the rich etc….what I think he and his democratic congress is going to do to balance the budget and
pay for his plans….is to: reduce the military spending, cut federal jobs like the cia, fbi, ice border
patrol etc., as well as other federal agencies but they will do away with internet, email syping(forgot what
this is called). So, in the nutshell, obama will ruin this country with one stroke of the pen. This will leave the u.s.dollar worthless, oil and other commodities rising and we will lose our power in the world……
McCain better be a battleler and not tip-toeing tonight. All is a stake. Plus, the democrats will get more lliberal judges on the bench….
I like to hear from some reg. people this forum is full of pay blogers. yuk!
McCain needs to expose Obama’s extreme views on abortion, wanting to bring back the never needed partial birth abortion and voting against healthcare for babies out of the womb that survived an abortion attempt.
The finest health and education systems, the fairest immigration laws, and the soundest economy do nothing for the child who never sees the light of day!
It is a tragic irony that ‘pro-choice’ candidates have come to support homicide – the gravest injustice a society can tolerate – in the name of ‘social justice’.
Abortion is the civil rights issue of our generation.
Palin and McCain have the life issues right.
Gwen-
Your post hardly deserves a response. sigh. Here goes: McCain was exonerated by the House Ethics Commitee of any wrong doing in the Keating 5 S&L scandals. McCain immediately apologized for his lack of judgement in associating with Keating. No wrong doing. G. Gordon Liddy was President Nixon’s problem and not even on the scene when McCain came to Washington. Who cares about where he ranked in the Naval Academy, some of our greatest soldiers and sailors graduated at the service academies DEAD LAST, and some of our worst performing soldiers and sailors graduated at the head of their classes. This is one of the most ridiculous concerns to have where one graduates in school. Oh, by the way there’s no such thing as “flying carefully” in combat. What a moronic statement! Also who cares if he ownes a hundred homes and 500 cars. As my parents told me MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS. Envy is a sin you know. And lastly how do you know he doesn’t know anyone from the middle class- do you know him personally?
Not a pay-blogger! You can probably tell by the size of my comment! Just a regular middle-class Christian Mom.
McCain can try to make character an issue, but many voters question the former POW’s character, too. My 49-year-old sister, and independent voter in Texas, is a good barometer. She voted for Bush in the 2000 and 2004 presidential races, and she didn’t like or vote for Clinton, but she will probably vote for Obama. She doesn’t like Obama, no doubt about that, and fears he will attempt to transfer wealth to America’s bottom 20%.
She sees McCain, however, as unstable, mean-spirited and incapable of putting together an economic plan that will work. She is representatilve of a cohort of women voters who will be looking to see just how angry McCain will be tonight. The former POW will be between a rock and a hard place.
THIS MADE ME THINK! -
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Keep praying. It’s over.
Trina - your posts make it clear you are not being paid to post and are clearly a simple woman indeed.
Too late for McCain. If he had any political savvy, he would have voted down the bailout. I think it was over for him as soon as Palin was exposed for the empty vessel she is.
Ayers was acquitted.
McCain needs to spell out the Obama-ACORN-financial crisis connection. The Ayers association can be rationalized. ACORN, however, is on public record.
I say they should put boxing gloves on and just duke it out.
Let America see who the tough guy really is!
Re: “This Made Me Think!”
Am I the only one who finds it curious that the Book of Revelation - which I’m guessing was written around 100 A.D. or so - talks about the Antichrist as belonging to a religious sect that DIDN’T EVEN EXIST YET?
Be anti-Obama if you want to, but I don’t see anything especially pious in adding to Scripture for your own political purposes.
You know, half of these ZOMG PRO MCCAIN arguments can be applied to candidates like Barr and Nader.
Obama is black, yes, we understand you guys dont like people who are the same color as your gardeners and servants, but you can look beyond McCain.
I for one will gladly throw my vote away on Barr or Nader just because i AGREE with you people that Obama is very inexperienced, but i also happen to believe McCain is NOT a conservative.
God bless us all
