McCain Must Win Back Women Voters at the Debate: Here’s How
By Patricia Murphy

When John McCain debates Barack Obama in Nashville, he needs to accomplish just one thing: Win back the votes of women. Although McCain had opened up a 16-point lead among white women following the Republican convention, his support from female voters has cratered since the beginning of the financial crisis.
Because women are the majority of voters, McCain will win the election if he wins the female vote.
But his jargony discussion of economic policy, coupled with his drowsy response to the financial crisis, has given Barack Obama a massive advantage among women.
In order to reverse that, McCain must reconnect with female voters by getting serious, specific and real on the economy. Here’s how he can do it…
1. Relate his proposals to women’s lives. John McCain has policies that would affect women’s lives as they drive to work and carpool, make dinner and plan for their children’s education, but you’d almost never know it from listening to him. When he promises to cut pork barrel spending, he rarely mentions that it would go a long way in balancing the budget, cutting the deficit, strengthening the dollar and improving American credit.
Another McCain favorite, cutting ethanol subsidies, would immediately bring down the price of corn and everything from cereal to milk to chicken and beef. And his calls for offshore drilling and building refineries? Instead of chanting, “Drill, baby, drill,” why not stress that it would cut gas prices by increasing the supply of oil just until we get to something better, greener and cheaper?
McCain’s got the “so what?” of his policies buried so deep in jargon that he’s losing the votes of women who don’t have time to do the digging.
2. Get real. Today, every woman in America is asking herself what she needs to do to make it through the economic storm that’s obviously here to stay. If she’s single, she’s looking for places to cut her spending. If she’s married, she’s asking what would happen if she or her husband lost their jobs. If she’s near retirement and she’s she’s just seen her 401(k) lose one quarter of its value, she asking, “What now?”
But when Sarah Palin was asked in her debate what the Republicans would adjust in their economic policies in the wake of the financial crisis, she asked rhetorically, “How long have I been at this? Five weeks?” Women get that Palin is new to the scene, but failing to answer that question told women she hadn’t taken the time to think about the biggest issue on their minds. McCain has to do better.
3. Tell us who the Secretary of the Treasury will be. Love him or hate him, Secretary Paulson will only be in his job for three more months, at which time a successor will step in to manage the bailout, soon to be the largest program in the federal government.
But who will McCain put in charge of handling the mess? In the same way George Bush needed to announce that Colin Powell would be his Secretary of State before the 2000 elections, John McCain needs an able front man for his financial policies. Because McCain himself said that he doesn’t know as much as he should about the economy, he has to give voters somewhere to put their confidence by naming someone who does.
4. Finally, blame George Bush (at least a little). A Washington Post poll last week showed that more people blame George Bush for the financial crisis than blame Wall Street. Even though McCain has split with Bush on everything from torture to campaign finance reform, he’s never had a high profile disagreement with Bush on economic policy, and there’s no time like the present.
In the end, John McCain should remember that the economy isn’t the biggest issue facing women today. It’s the only issue, and he and his team must lead accordingly.

that has to be the saddest debate i’ve ever seen - McCain was so far out of his league, he sounded like a blathering idiot! Nothing against old people, but i’s time to retire, old man! THe best part was offering to buy $300 BILLION dollar worth of bad mortgages! The right wing must have loved that one!
I love Fox News and all the comments by the right wingers - it’s like the funniest and scariest science fiction ever written!
McCain can only woo himself back to sleep.
John really has to reprise some of his golden oldies–the economy is in the tank, give us some lighthearted cheer. I’d suggest this great McCain joke to really win over the Clinton PUMAs:
Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father.
I’m a bible-toting Christian; however, abortion is NOT my only issue. I KNOW that Roe v. Wade will not be overturned no matter who the next president is! As a Christian, I’m VERY concerned with the rising number of homeless people in shelters … the rising number of hungry kids … you know, the stuff that Jesus concerned Himself with. I see it EVERY day at the church where my 3-year old attends preschool … kids with no formula, diapers, clean linen, clothes. What’s sadder … these kids have at least one parent that works. I don’t understand why Christians have let the sole issue of abortion steer them … my doctor put it best when she explained how most of her patients are ONE issue voters. I’m determined not to be one of those Christians who lets my pastor steer me one way or the other on who I vote for. I know a place for me is reserved in heaven. I pray that these young, homeless and hungry people get a president that will give them new hope so that they can digs themselves out of the hole they find themselves in. Right now, that happens to be Obama.
If you think that Sarah Palin had nothing to do with the mass exodus of women backing John McCain, you have missed the point. The initial enthusiasm after the convention was due to this apparently dynamic choice and the very temporary assessment of Palin as a fascinating new political force.
Unfortunately, within a few weeks, America began to discover who Governor Palin really is. The polls went down for McCain - because of this disastrous choice of a running mate. Rehashing all the reasons this woman is unqualified isn’t necessary. Had McCain chosen a Liebermann or Giuliani instead, I would bet McCain would not be so far behind in the polls now.
At this point, there is very little he can do to remedy this situation.
Oh, by the way; according to today’s polls, McCain’s lead in Alaska has been cut in half, from + 31 on 9/09 to +15 as of today - Sarah’s charms are even wearing thin on her own people, it seems.
For all those who questioned my abilities/judgement - this is Candace here - hockey mom (for 10 years and believe me, (SOME) hockey moms are definitely pitbulls - I intervened to keep one out of jail once for assaulting another over a referee call) - I’m not a governor, but a program administrator with a lot of employees, responsibilities, and accountability - sat next to Bill Ayers a few years ago at a national early childhood teacher education conference where he was the guest of honor/keynote speaker - and since I did actually talk with him about a few things, I guess that makes me a terrorist as well; worked two full time jobs to pay my way through seven years of graduate school while raising two kids one of whom is in the Peace Corps, the other working in a hospital, one a Republican, the other an independent - I could go on, but you get the idea - I’m not a lunatic. I say again, Sarah Palin was a stupid choice and has no business being Vice President. Here’s why - she assumes the rest of us are really stupid - so dumb, in fact, that we will think her nauseating winking is charming, her colloquialisms are clever, her characterizations of herself as ‘middle-class’ momma are endearing - she is so transparent - all style, no substance whatsoever - she is an embarassment to women everywhere as she represents us all as if we were bimbos - with ALL the women John McCain had to choose from, he went to the bottom of the well for this one. And THAT makes me question his judgement
Another Rose entered this forum for Obama.
I learned last night that Barney Frank had a gay lover at Fannie Mae at one point in time. Talking about conflict of interest!
These Dem sleazebags have no shame whatsoever.
Does anyone know what the Community Reinvestment Act is? Anyone remember Jimmy Carter? Look it up. Then look at how it was kicked into overdrive in 1995 by Bill Clinton and Barney Frank. Fannie and Freddie sell mortgages they guarantee to banks. They make money by selling these mortgages. The more they sell, the more they make. How do you get more mortgages to sell? Try the CRE and and Bill Clinton’s and Barney Frank’s 1 trillion dollar mandate that banks must provide to low income families. Sure it gets them homes but can they really afford them? Turns out, No. Foreclosures set in and all these families who were getting homes are now losing them. So many foreclosures that banks are going out of business. The hearts of the democrats may have been in the right place but the economics behind it all was a disaster waiting to happen. Unfortunately it all burst when Bush was in command. When his administration tried to investigate, they were shot down by democrats who said the concern was overblown. This is all the way back in 2003. There is youtube video of the cspan broadcast hearings. Watch the video in it’s entirety. There are no tricks. Straight talk from both Democrats and Republicans. In 2005 the topic came up again with the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act. Only this time it was because of false earnings reporting of which determine Executive bonuses. The same Executives that have Chris Dodd in their pocket. Did I mention that Obama has taken more money in 3 years as a senator then anyone over a 20 year period, excluding Chris Dodd, from Fannie and Freddie. The Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 was cosponsored by none other than John McCain. The act never came to law. It wasn’t acted on by an outgoing Republican Congress, SHAME, and needless to say, the current Democratic Congress has done nothing, literally. Ask yourself what is going to change with Obama? Look at who’s been financing him? Choose your favorite nonpartisan website. Research the candidates before you cast the most important vote. Do not let the economy do this again. It’s in your hands.
I think if McCain made it clear that although he does not support abortion in general he does think it should be permitted in cases of incest, rape and life of mother he could turn women who are not willing to accept Palin’s absolute prohibition.
Ken Menzies, I’ve seen Reagan and Palin is NO Reagan!
SARAH PALIN MUST HAVE YOU LEFTIES SCARED TO DEATH!! THE NASTINESS IS AMAZING. I FOR ONE, THINK SHE IS THE BEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THIS ELECTION. BUT SOME OF THE FAIR WHEATHER FEMS ARE ALL UPSET. EVEN THE VERY DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT OF N.O.W. HAS ENDORSED HER. SO LADIES ITS OKAY TO STOP WITH THE OBAMA TALKING POINTS AND VOTE FOR A REAL PERSON INSTEAD OF A SNAKE OIL SALESMAN LIKE OBAMA. OR MAYBE YOU LIKE BEING CALLED SWEETIE. MCCAIN/PALIN 08. PEOPLE WITH HONOR.
I agree with you. But also point out the abortion issue.
The finest health and education systems, the fairest immigration laws, and the soundest economy do nothing for the child who never sees the light of day!
It is a tragic irony that ‘pro-choice’ candidates have come to support homicide – the gravest injustice a society can tolerate – in the name of ‘social justice’.
Abortion is the civil rights issue of our generation.
Palin and McCain have the life issues right.
Some very good commentary, all of which the McCain camp should be working with. I’d like to point out something that maybe I’ve missed but I don’t think so.
With all the talk about the “religious right” and their backing and their influence… why is it that the only “choice” of pro-life voters is down in the polls? - Folks if you are a Christian (meaning any denomination of worship) what is the question for you. For decades we have screamed - Save the babies, Abortion is murder, the horror, AND IT EVERBIT IS! - so how can any of you even remotely contemplate voting for Obama? If you actually believe the stuff you proclaim and the position of the church that life begins at conception, there IS NO decision to be made. You can disagree on immigration, gun laws, the constitution, education (but most likely you don’t) however there is no other choice to be made in this election. We have fought so long and so hard to recover from the liberal administrations and past mistakes of moderate Presidents involving supreme court selections on behalf of the unborn to throw it all away now when we are so close to righting this attrocity.
Swallow hard if you don’t like his policies (frankly neither candidate is going to fix the economy - I think deep down you already know that), bite you upper lip and do what you know is morally what we need to do, VOTE FOR MCCAIN. Take it from one who has had to hold his nose voting for Bob Dole, and then GW … you’re right it isn’t easy but the alternative is MURDER! - just think of it.. by voting for John McCain, you could save that one unborn child who could eventually grow up to be that ideal candidate who will be the president we all can be proud of.
vicki-
HERE, HERE VERY WELL SAID!
I agree strongly with 4 !! McCain needs to point out that he proposed reforms and Bush/Paulson/McConnel did not back him up.
I’ve visited almost every news sight on the internet and watched each channel on the tv for updates and opinions on the up coming election & for the life of me, can’t understand why so many people keep posting that Fox is one-sided or is Obama bashing! All other news facets have been leaning the other way since day one and nobody seems to be commenting on that! Affirmative Action at it’s finest, I guess… because if they all had been running it the other way around, then there would be hell to pay, huh? I am an avid McCain/ Palin supporter and am smart enough to know that “m” comes before “o” anyways, so, why not flip the candidates and put McCain’s pics up first… oh, wait, that would be prejudice, huh? Obama supporters keep saying that the one’s of us supporting McCain/ Palin are “stupid” or “don’t have a brain in our head”, but all I can say to that is … all of ya’ll are the one’s sitting around whining with your hands out & want to bring every one in America down to your level so you don’t feel so lonely. Get up, get a job, & support AMERICA by voting for McCain instead of putting America and all of it’s true patriots in harm’s way! All the polls keep showing that the economy is #1 on the list and national security is #2, but how is our economy going to survive if the terrorist are able to do what they want to when they want to and that will be the case if Obama is elected. Wake up, people and see this man for what he really is… he’s not black, he’s not white… he’s just a man in a suit with ties to terrorism and ideas to take this country to it’s knees!

If you were paying any attention at all, the person at the top of NOW in Cali was personally introducing Sarah and did not state that the Cali NOW was endorsing her. Hey, but thanks for wasting computer cycles and data across the internet to look it up!!!!!!!!!!!
I did a search on California NOW and went to thier web site and found out that they DO NOT SUPPORT Palin !!!!!!!!
To Maureen at 1:13
You madam are an embarassment for women. You care more about the treatment of animals than of innocent babies. I’m so sick of people, especially women, knocking Sarah Palin. Looks like a woman, dresses like a woman, behaves like a woman, and acts like a woman. For your information, Bush had nothing to do with the current situation we are facing in the economy today. The Democrats are to blame. Yes I said it: the DEMOCRATS! Bush inherited the mess Clinton left and he had the economy doing quite well even post 911. And speaking of 911 you all have forgotten what happened on that day. I live in NY and I will never forget that we were ATTACKED! Bush has kept us safe and if God forbid Obama wins, you all have yourselves to blame because believe me we will get attacked again and Obama won’t know what to do much less Biden who couldn’t even get the responsibility of the VP right regarding the Constitution which by the way Sarah did.

Talk about falling to the lowest common denominator. By your little diatribe, you must be a racist. This isn’t a race between black and white, but a race between freedom and socialism. Obviously, you must be a commie/soc. One thing I know, you need to put down the pipe and twinkies and start looking at what’s at stake here. If obama is elected, you can see your rights to free speech (the goofy opinion you just stated) the first to go.
Hey Maureen, I’m over your sixties, hippy nonsense most of which left this country in the worst shape it had been in since the civil war. Everytime I hear someone from that generation go off on their tantrums I could scream. Your extreme animal rights/ environmental agenda is no longer wanted. We are where we are because of it. I hope and pray everyday that people with common sense will have their own revolution at the voting booth Nov 5 and put those socialist ideas that you and Obama are preaching DOA. The media tells us in polls everyday that people prefer Obama. I call BS!! The true poll is the voting booth. For all the people who don’t get to have their voices heard in mainstream media outlets let the polls put a fire in your belly and oppose Obama with your vote. Will somebody, anybody speak out other than on the blogs?!
You guy talked about Obama pass association-How many are you still connected to your Klan family members and eat dinner with them every Christmas and Thanksgiving and making black jokes around the kitchen table. Let’s not go back ok-repent first for your Biogot Uncles and Grandfathers-who slaughter many black people and white people who stood up for the basic right of a man and women who skin color just happen to be black.
And secondly, who ever said black female will vote for McCain-don’t fool yourself, he’s not perceived the same way President Bush was. Black people have always voted Democrat and will continue to do so, until the Republican Party begin to look and represent America-all of America.
I’ll be shocked if Fox allow this-because of their fair and balance policy.
Let’s take a look at the the three major problems confronting us today:
#1 Terrorism: Because the Clinton administration knocked down the military and didn’t care about the constant attacks on the country( Cole, Trade Towers, Various Embassies) we are now embroiled in a war on many fronts.
#2 Gas Prices: Because the democratic party has blocked offshore drilling for over twenty years we are overly dependent on foreign oil and paying the price.
#3 Economics: Because the Clintons and Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and other democrats wanted anybody and everybody to own their own home regardless of what they deserved or could afford, we now have an economic meltdown.
The groundwork for all of these problems was laid by democrats…Bush simply inherited an accident waiting to happen.
However, the way I see it Bush should have been the one warning us about the coming storm instead of trying to play Reagan by running up the cost of war, and buying the votes for the war budget with earmarks.
You all got an idea of how the candidates would handle a crisis. McCain went to Washington to try and do what he could by slowing down the process and making sure everyone had a voice. Obama dumped it on Congress and basically voted “present” …again.
Obama…the “call me when you need me” president!
I’m not a McCain fan…but he gets my vote.
Fox is fair news? What a joke. Why aren’t they covering Palin & the AIP? MSM is too hard on Palin because they ask her what she reads & she can’t answer?
Breath of fresh air for dummies that’s what she is. Any woman that supports her should be ashamed she will send us back to the dark ages.
& don’t forget Mc Cain left his poor crippled wife for Cindy. He’s an adulterer…why isn’t that out there front & center???
Ex-Obama supporter here (financially and otherwise). There are two things that changed my mind. One - the “patriotic duty” of the upper tax brackets to pay more for those who may choose not to work as hard. My husband is a self-made man who works incredibly hard and has been extraordinarily successful as a result. We are extremely generous in our charitable contributions, but the idea of mandating that goes against everything I believe in. Apparently, we are then subsidizing my neighbors who either choose not to work, or for whom anything more than an 8 hour day would be torture. Two - the sexist venom and ridicule that has been heaped on Sarah Palin makes my stomach turn. As a parent of three daughters, I am apalled by the vitriole that is all but ensuring that they will think twice before entering the political arena. Palin is not all women would hope she could be (by a long shot), but there are no excuses for some of the things I’ve read and heard.
Glad to see the angry elitist leftists are out in force today. The race is tightening, the closer it gets the louder they squeel. These leftists hate Sarah Palin because she is wholesome, successful, and attractive with a great family. For all you posters claiming to be republican/conservative women not supporting McCain/Palin, I say sure you are… NOT!
How could one possibly vote for McCain with a running mate the likes of Sarah Palin. I am a 65 year old woman and totally frightened and repulsed by her. She stands for all I loath - the slaughter of animals -the lack of good thinking regarding the environment - not protecting the victims of rape and incest - etc. and not being smart enough to realize that she is not Vice Presidential material - Just imagine that doofus representing our country - Bush has been bad for us for eight years - My God we don’t need her. Maybe she should check the bats in her belfry (she thinks it’s Putin flying into her space)
With an Obama win on the horizon, you better get your wealth out of the US as soon as possible. try some of the offshore banks in the Carribean or Belize. bring your money and start a company where you can be tax free and do not have to support all of the crooks in Congress. the only people with a lower rating than Bush is the Congress where Obama is one of the worst for pork spending. God help America.
Guess you guys didn’t see the head of NOW in California give her support who supports the McCain/Palin ticket this weekend. She announced her at a rally with saying she was an example of what being a feminist is all about. As for the argument that she doesn’t represent the middle class women that you know, well, she does represent the middle class women I know incl me and I have the suspicion she represents millions more. I am a single, non married woman with no children in my 40’s, a small business owner and I LOVE her. But then I’m conservative and we know that if you’re liberal you won’t. So pack up your argument. Last time I checked, liberal women do not own the majority voice. Do not presume to speak for all women everywhere much less all middle class women. Don’t call me dumb, moronic, idiotic, small minded, right wing, uneducated, stupid ot anything else you can come up with without looking in your third grade dictionary for more. You don’t know anything about me except what I’ve just told you and I and millions like me deserve more respect than you’re willing to give just because I differ in my opinion.
Get your nose checked -That isn’t a breath of fresh air you’re smelling - it’s the smell of moose dung coming from Palin’s upper lip. lmao
Hasn’t he try that already by getting the inexperience, Oh (that’s only for Obama), “breath of fresh air” Palin….

Typical communist propaganda. It is pretty simple why we are in the mess we are in economically. Liberals gained control of both houses of congress. Didn’t they promise change? Well we got it. So typical of the left wing. Screw everyone then blame the republicans. Wasn’t Barney Frank suppose to be in control of Freddy and Fannie? And what about Chris Dodd’s involvement? Then, of course, we have the “messiah of all mankind” obama coming to deliver us from ourselves by providing even more PAIN! He sounds more like something straight from the pits of hell. The we have you, a lousy tourist from the Communist New Network telling us we’re pathetic? You and your liberal BS is what is pathetic.
obama/biden = Satan/Sadam
Andrew is your typical McCain/Palin supporter. So married to the “free market” that he is unable to recognize not only that it has failed but that it threatens to take all of us down with it. We’ve noticed how the “free markets” are doing so well.
And then of course, the tired old (and dare I say, deliberate) lie about Obama being a Muslim. It is a falsehood. However, even if it were true, why would it matter. I thought the US had freedom of religion. (I guess not to the far right).
And then of course the tired lie about not standing for the pledge of allegiance or the nostrum about wearing a flag lapel pin. Is that how we judge our leaders? How about whether overall they are patriotic.
As for Governors being somehow preferable, well, George W. was a governor (and by the way, he didn’t believe in interfering in the “free market”.
Pathetic but typical of the views of your Fox News far right winger.
Hey Jill - too bad you didn’t learn something in all your years of higher education. Don’t brag about your degrees because your stupidity and ignorance is showing through. You’re the type that will vote for a WOMAN simply because she’s a WOMAN. Go to Alaska with Palin on November 5th - and stay there.
Well Candace, you’re obviously a genius. By the way what state are you Governor of?
McCain and Palin are a breath of fresh air for our country. They care about America and American values; too bad the mainstream media is not giving them fair coverage. What is wrong with the media (Msnbc, Abc, NBC, CNN) reports always bashing McCain and Palin? I can not even watch these news stations anymore. I only watch Fox to get a fair and balance report. Obama should be questioned about his associations with these far left librals. We need to vote out of congress the do nothing democratics, starting with Pelosi and Reid. You don’t hear about how they are to blame for the the economy crisis.
in response to Mike-AZ: I have been encouraging this approavh for over a week. McCain or Palin could lay it all out for everyone: the democrats and their “everyone should live in a house and banks should lend everyone money to live in those houses, whether or not they can pay back the money they borrowed” and borrowers’ lack of responsibility got us into this mess. they could also connect the dots between Barney, Chris, and Barak.
IF you want some one next door to be VP, please go worshipp Sara Next Door. I am sure a arvergae Joe will lead you to the bridge to no where. But if you want a man who wants changed for the better of US, vote for Obama. I am sick and tired of hearing i want a VP next door.
What is the point arguing over the women vote. They either hate or love Sarah Pallin. However, more women in this country think like Palin and the other half are just bitter and angry. I guess the left thought Hillary was a breath of fresh spring air. I hardly say so.
I don’t want a Hockey Mom or Joe Six Pack in the Presidents office. I want someone who knows the economy, the world and the law. Someone who can form more than one sentance at a time.
McCain said he knows how to win a war. Then why hasn’t he done it yet???
McCain/Palin are wrong for our country on so many levels.
Palin is a disgrace to women and McCain has no respect for women.

“the foundations of the economy are strong …. haha yea try to win back some women, that sure will help”
———————————————————————————————————————————————
Only 6% unemployment tells the tale. So, if the foundations of the economy are not strong, then you must be unemployed and living off the government? Right? babboxy, making a foolish comment only shows how foolish you are. Think about it.
Jealous? What is there to be jealous over? A pretty face and an empty head? A career that keeps her away from her children most of the time? A husband who doesn’t believe in America? I guess that must be some people’s dream but I cannot imagine it is what most woman want. Or is it? Maybe I missed something when I decided to have children and raise them along with my hard working patriotic husband? The fact is that there were many other qualified, educated women that are not all that unattractive that John could have picked that would not have been such an insult to our intelligence. That is just my opinion though - which is what this post is suppose to be about. Those of you who slam others opinions are not being fair. We are all entitled to express opinions without being bullied.
all these bill ayers stories, rev. wright stories have been already been chewed up and spit out. if it didn’t matter in the spring why would it matter now? it’s the same story and it’s boring. why keep beating a dead horse? it’s not working for me because i’ve heard and read it all. talk about the topics that matter. the fear-mongering is cheap.
I cannot believe that any “average” middle class woman would ever be won over by John McCain at this point. He may have been a possibility until he insulted us all with his VP choice. She does NOT represent any average middle class woman that I have ever met. She is the ultimate trailer trash that somehow made her way and someone that we all treat with disdain and tolerance for the sake of not being rude when having to speak to her. I am a PTA and soccer mom but would be an embarassment if I spouted off with the ignorance and lack of knowledge that she shows. If you are going to go yelling and screaming about something - please know what you are talking about and please use proper English. I am not impressed by someone who says that they are “just like me” and proceeds to start winking, talking about six packs and sounding like she is completely uneducated. Is that a good representation of “middle class America”? I hope that is not what we all are inspired to be!
A good start was made yesterday when the leader of NOW in L.A. came out and endorsed Sarah Palin,
referring to her as a “real feminist”…One thing McCain could point out that, some of the dictators in
some of these countries that Obama said he would negotiate with without preconditions, they have
little regard for womens’ rights!!!
Subject: 7 1/2 years of George Bush
TO ALL MY FRIENDS….LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE..
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high–14,000 +
5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises, vacations overseas, living large!…
But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress
and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted ;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing!;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT
PORTFOLIOS!
YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE GOT IT! …..
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.
AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS GOING TO
REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!
JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN STAND?
You know after reading all the liberal left trash over the past couple of months I hope they succeed in getting Senator Obama elected as President. Then when the cold hard facts start hitting them in the pocketbook every day for the next four years I can laugh while they cry.
Wow! The anti-Palin desparatos are out in force on this one. Face it, Palin is awesome. Those who don’t like her remind me of Reagan’s critics. Many of his critics also fooled themselves into thinking they were looking at a mistake of a candidate, when in fact they were dealing with a force of nature.
Now as for what McCain could do to get more support from undecided women, I think pointing out Obama’s incompetence and poor judgment while pointing out his own steady and proven qualities should serve him quite well.
The truth has a tendency to really throw the Obama camp and his supporters into a tizzy. McCain really struck a nerve when he compared Obama’s stubbornness on his Iraq positions to that of Bush’s in the last debate (Obama seemed ready to come unglued). I think if he could find more subtle and effective ways to point out how Obama shares a lot of the traits with Bush that people don’t like. Is not Obama extremely sure of himself, even in the face of apparent clear contradictions such as the surge? Many women, I am told, hate that in a leader.
What about Obama’s involvement in our current economic crisis? His intentions in pressuring banks to make risky loans may have been good but the results certainly expose poor judgment on his part, poor judgment that we are already suffering from severely and he isn’t even president.
An effective communication of this would really put Obama into a spot. Someone like Bill Clinton would probably be able to deal well in spite, but Obama is not good on his toes. Does he simply deny and risk emphasizing the question by doing so? Does he offer some explanation? Will he have one that doesn’t come out as stumbling or even worse, just not a good one?
If McCain properly prepares and the questions are not too inane he could score huge points.
What McCain must do (and not just for the womens sake bur for all), is let his opponent know that this financial/banking crisis was unequivocally Barak Obama’s fault along with his cronies such as, Frank, Dodd, Reid, Pellosi, etc. Just about 2 years ago, the dems took over both Houses of Congress and this mess is what we got in return. The dems can deny all day long, but this is a bona fide fact. And remember, if elected and given control of both Houses there WOULD be change. Well, here is the change they promised. Failed financial/credit institutions.
McCain MUST drive this point home tonight if he has a chance of winning (and he MUST correct the record about his bills to regulate Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac which the dem controlled senate shot down). And this is just a start.
obama/biden = The Shame of America
It takes a small minded man and/or woman to believe that if a woman votes for McCain/Palin that we are only doing so because Sarah Palin is a woman. She has much more to offer than her gender to this ticket. If you liberals could open your eyes and your mind you would see that Sarah Palin has just as much experience if not more than Barack Obama. The only difference is she has been on the campaign trail for 6 weeks and he for 21 months and she is more real and authentic and honest than he ever considered being.
John McCain energeized the Republican Party when he picked Governor Palin.
There is still a double standard in this country when it comes to women … and women are their own worst enemies. You don’t have to agree with Sarah Palin, or even vote for her, but if you can’t at least admit that is an intelligent woman who has worked hard to get where she is today… then you are a sad excuse for human being.
Lori, sure great to know dems. really do care about marriage stability. Must of been the Hillary factor that allowed such admiration and support for “Sticky Willie”. Fantastic, great, please keep up the feel good messages.
Should be interesting tonight!
Sure glad the Obama team has so much faith in the homeless as to get them to help decide the future of our country. Being homeless does not typically result from making very many correct decisions. Maybe that 5% can do for us what the 5% of mortgage holders have been able to do. The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!
Gee, which one should I choose? A candidate that had an affair or one that associates with Bill Ayers, reverend (sic) Wright and Louis Farrakhan. Do I really want Ayers, Wright and Farrakhan setting foot in the White House. I don’t think so.
Liz, do you know who two of Obama’s top campain advisors are? Former Fannie Mae executives, one of them was in charge of it when it was getting so completely out of hand. So yes, let’s discuss Fannie Mae.
Liz, if you think you can’t afford McCain, do you really think you can afford Obama? How do you think he is going to pay for HIS health care plan? You think we are not going to pay for that?
Jill, thank you for saying that! I am also an educated woman and have a brain in my head, and I love Sarah Palin! When you get down to the bare bones of an argument, all democrats can say is “you’re stupid.” I’ve seen that on every blog I have read.
McCain needs to hammer on Obama’s connections to Fannie/Freddie, remind people he tried for oversight on those two institutions a few years ago and was ahead of everyone on this problem and point out the obvious economic declines since the democrats took power in congress! Cut taxes during economic decline to jump start economy, be honest that all of Obama’s new spending can’t be done due to this 700 Billion Dollar bailout- ask Obama where the money is going to come from? Ask Obama where the billions for that cesspool, the UN, is going to come from? Ask him about his vote to deny treatment to babies born alive after botched abortions. And as far as all you whiney women who think other women are stupid for supporting Palin please stop the whining it is so high school.
McCain has no chance to win women in this election. He’s shown to have poor judgment (horrible selection in Palin), is a fear and war-monger (women hate that) and his economic policies are a joke and indefensible.
McCain lost this election in August when he chose the worst candidate for VP in history. Obama wins in a rout.
For weeks now I have been trying to figure out why so many women HATE Sarah Palin. I mean, I have never heard such vicious hatred spewing forth about one woman. Jack, I think you finally hit it on the head for me. She is PRO-LIFE. I’m sorry, all you liberal women out there, but Sarah represents a higher of women than you do. She is REAL, and that’s what scares you to death.
CANDICE and friends, Jill you are so right, I don’t think any of the women who are bashing Sarah have a brain in their head, this woman Sarah Palin has done so much and is a fearless, smart vibrant woman and I would have no problem voting for her in any office, I feel she has gone through the middle class drums of money, children, house, problems, they only made a combined income of 168,000, how much more middle class can you get, she can relate to some many people on so many levels that it is amazing, and McCain did his homework, recent interviews had him and Cindy talking of dinners and events with Palin way before the decission to have her as VP, it is not what the main stream media wants anyone to believe, she is the right person, her ethics and honest policy is amazing, yes there is a problem with the trouper, that guy needs to be fired for just the one stint of zapping an 11yr old child, please, let it go, her record speaks for itself, she is honest and when Sarah speaks to the camera she speaks to each one of us willing to listen, Women are intimidated by her at least the ones that don’t like her, she is more of a whole person than any of us could ever want to be, for all you LIBERAL WOMEN haters go and look up Sarah Palin, and read from legitmate sources, you will find infomation that speaks for itself, for those of you who are just empty brained continue to support your emtpy suit, communism and socialism are Nobama’s calling, it’s not what america needs, the Main stream media is only out for Nobama, they are liars, deceitful hate mongers, if you have any brains like Jill and the rest of the women that support Sarah, do some research, open your mind and take a look, Nobama is not the person who he says he is, McCain/Palin 2008, for real change.
I think McCain lost the bulk of the female vote shortly after picking Palin. She has proven to be horribly unqualified, an embarrassment for the party and her views on the few issues she knows are not in line with the majority of women. These things all combined make her a lead weight around the neck of the republican ticket.
It’s like the thought process of picking her went like this - she has a vagina, she’s a hockey mom, she’s republican - we found our girl.
Cheers,
Mike - Republican against McCain (there are many of us)
To Zilana, go to the Alaska State website and look at the public budget that Palin has been managing and look at what she has been doing!! Also go to the US Senate website and look at what McCain and Obama have been doing. The facts are better than all the opinions and lies being rolled out to the public. If I hear Obama say ” I’ve always said” in answer to one more thing he has moved his position on I think I’ll have to get into politics!! I cannot understand how people just overlook Obamas liberal, left radical social views and desires for “radical” change in this country, it’s scary!!! If your children chose friends like his you would not be so understanding. What McCain says and what he has done are in step. What Obama says and what he has done are completely different!
