Oprah’s Mind: Closed for Business?
By Andrea Tantaros
Republican Political Commentator
For a woman who used to encourage millions of females to “find their spirit” Oprah Winfrey has certainly lost hers. The queen of daytime gab fests refuses to have Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin as a guest on her program–at least not before Election Day. We all know she’s backing Barack Obama but why wouldn’t she interview the first female Republican ever to be nominated as vice president? Isn’t this the same woman who lauds women who do it all? “A career, babies, a husband, adversity…you go girl!” You don’t need to be Dr. Phil to diagnose O’s prideful, blatant favoritism. The icon used to give away cars. Now she gives away her obvious bias.
Someone as smart as Oprah should understand that by snubbing Palin she risks turning off even more of her viewers. Many flipped the channel when she didn’t support Hillary, but now this? (I’d bet more of Oprah’s viewers likely identify with Palin than they do Winfrey). She could, in fact, use this opportunity to even better her brand (though she probably doesn’t think she needs it). She could invite Palin on the show to showcase that even though she’s backing Barack she wants to celebrate the achievements of women in America. The dialogue would go something like this:
Oprah: “You know, Governor, it’s no secret I’m supporting Barack Obama.”
Palin: “I can appreciate your loyalty. I am fiercely loyal, too. Remember the whole pit bill - lipstick thing?”
Oprah: “But I must say, to be 44, a former point guard and beauty queen, a Governor, a reformer with five children, AND a special needs child and now the first Republican woman to be nominated Vice President. You have electrified women across the country. It’s monumental and as I woman I feel so proud. (Oprah raises her palm) High five girlfriend.”
Palin: (high fives O back)
Cue Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman.” The audience goes berserk. Oprah’s ratings skyrocket as every housewife with big hair, a son in hockey and a teenage daughter watches at home with misty eyes and a spirit that Palin has helped them find.
Instead Oprah’s decided to ignore the interests of her viewers for her own personal wants. A bad business decision if you ask me.
If McCain pulls it off and Palin becomes Vice President she should skip “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and give an exclusive to “Ellen” instead. It’ll be there that they can blast “I’m Every Woman.” She’ll certainly have something to dance about.

I DON’T THINK OPRAH IS AFRAID WHAT FOR? SHE’S TOO SMART TO BE AFRAID.
GO OPRAH!!!!
First I AGREE WITH OBAMAH’S WIFE, I DO LOVE THIS COUNTRY, LAND OF OPPORTUNITY. I AM JUST AN ORDINARY HMONG GIRL (ASIAN) FROM MPLS, MN.
SECOND, I ONLY WATCH Oprah OCCASIONALLY even though I adore her a lot on her success. THIRD, I don’t really care what her show is about except until she was all over the news for refusing to interview Palin. SO NOW SHE’S CAUGHT A LOT OF THE OUR ATTENTION, AN I WOULD LOVE TO BE ON HER SHOW.
FINALLY, I AGREE AND STAND BY OPRAH TO NOT INTERVIEW PALIN, BECAUSE I AM AGAINST PALIN’S BELIEFS. PALIN IS A FLIP FLOPPER AND I DON’T LIKE THAT AT ALL. SHE SOUNDS LIKE A FAKE EVENTHOUGH THEY ALL ARE. I CAN’T STAND THEY WAY SHE TALKS WITH HER CONFIDENCE. ALTHOUGH I DO RESPECT HER AND CAN’T BELIEVE SHE ONLY THOUGHT OF HERSELF WHEN IT COMES TO ABORTION AND SPECIAL NEEDS KIDS, COME ON, NOT EVERYONE HAS THE SAME BENEFIT AS SHE DOES. I WONDER IF SHE’S A SHAME OF IT BEFORE REALIZING SHE’S GOING TO ADVOCATE FOR KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS. I MYSELF HAVE TWO BROTHER IN LAWS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND THEY WILL NEVER GET THE SAME BENEFITS AS HERS.
I ALSO WORKED ALL MY LIFE SINCE 14, HAD A JOB SINCE THEN AND HAD TO GET MY DRIVERS LICENSE BY 16, BECAUSE I CAN NO LONGER RIDE THE CITY BUS. I HAD TO WORK FOR MY FAMILY BECAUSE MY PARENTS WERE TOO POOR AND DISABLE. I DIDN’T HAVE PRIVILEGES LIKE MY KIDS. I HAVE 3 KIDS AND MARRIED. MAKING SURE THEY DIDN’T HAVE TO GET A JOB AT THE AGE OF 14.
I KNOW THIS IS RIDICULES TO WRITE A WHOLE BOOK HERE, BUT WHY IS THIS TOPIC ABOUT OPRAH SO TOUCHING, MAYBE YOU WHO HAD LIVED A PERFECT LIFE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF FOR TRYING TO TELL THE WORLD TO UNSUBSCRIBE HER MAGS AND NOT TUNE TO HER SHOW. AGAIN SHAME ON YOU.
FINALLY OPRAH PROVED TO ME THAT SHE IS BY MY SIDE. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE NEVER CONSIDER TO WATCH HER ON CHANNEL 4. NOW I CAN SAY WE BOTH HAVE SOMETHING IN SIMILARITY.
RACIST, SHE IS NOT, PERHAPS I DON’T CARE BECAUSE NAME ONE PERSON WHO AIN’T RACIST?
I HAVE BEEN LOOKED DOWN ON FROM ALL KINDS OF RACE, AND I NEVER LET IT BOTHER ME, BECAUSE IT’S MY PRIDE. TO ALL U PEOPLE, WHO THINKS SHE’S RACIST, ASK YOURSELF THIS, AND YOU’LL SOON CONSIDER YOURSELF RACIST.
SO LET’S NOT JUDGE ANYONE,, I STILL HOPE THAT ONE DAY, WE WON’T BE JUDGE BY OUR RACE, AGE, AND GENDER. BUT SEEMS LIKE IT’S NOT HAPPENING IN THIS GENERATION, SO BEFORE U
PEOPLE START IDENTIFYING RACIST, I’VE GOT A WHOLE BOOK TO WRITE ABOUT.
I’m a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight…..
If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic, different.” Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you are a quintessential American story.
If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.
Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.
If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.
If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to become the country’s second highest ranking executive.
If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real Christian. If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a
Christian.
If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.
If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent America’s.
If you’re husband is nicknamed “First Dude”, with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.
OK, much clearer now
Give me a Break!
IF YOU EVER WATCH THE SHOW, YOU WOULD KNOW OPRAH HAS BEEN SAYING (SINCE TIME BEGAN) THAT SHE DOES NOT HAVE POLITICIANS ON THE SHOW DURING THE CAMPAIGN.
Those of you who are criticizing Oprah should also demand that Sarah Palin appear on shows such as Meet the Press - I dare you.
But the thing is–Palin is *bad* for women. Bad for women’s rights, bad for freedom to make a half-dozen different choices as our hearts would have us do. So I don’t think Oprah’s being foolish at all.
Besides, she’s not having *ANY* of the candidates on her show until after all’s said and done, and that *is* good business policy.
Oprah doesn’t represent Women “as a whole”, she only represents liberal women. As a conservative, I’m greatly disappointed to find that she is turning her back on an opportunity to reach out and teach all women including herself of the many great possibilties within our reach by refusing to bring Sarah Palin on her show.
Young girls everywhere will think she is only supportive of left views, and not that of females in all walks of life.
Oprah should open her doors to both sides or none at all. She no longer supports all women, just liberal women… this is very disheartening from a long time veiwer.
I will no longer support her show or buy her products. She has overstepped her boundaries!!
ps. She no longer professes Jesus, she now talks of “the higher power” this is confirmation that she has slipped too far.
I didn’t realize she was a racist until Palin came on the scene. I had my suspicions when she wouldn’t support Hillary, but strongly pushed for Obama for no apparent reason other than his skin color. It’s interesting how no public figure will use the word racist when a non-white is acting that way. Where is the “no racism” outrage by Jesse Jackson and those types?
i don’t expect a response from you folks because you don’t handle opposing viewpoints very well…but the one thing you folks seem to forget is that Oprah can pick and choose who she invites to be on the Oprah show…try to remember - she didn’t get her show as a part of an affirmative action deal…she’s not hosting a show on public television and if she didn’t do another show starting tomorrow, she’d still be a billionairess who is free to invite or not invite whomever she so chooses…tell the republican whiners and whinettes who think Oprah owes them some free publicity to go read the constitution and the emancipation proclamation…Oprah and her show don’t belong to them and because this is still America, she is free to support whomever she chooses - not who the republicans dictate!!!

Oprah is entitled to her own opinion!!! Yes, she is all about “Girl Power,” but her mind is made up for who she chooses to vote for so let it be. Your script would be nice if you were writing her show and paying for it, but your not.
DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MUCH GOOD OPRAH DOES FOR EVERYONE POSSIBLE ON THIS PLANET? SHE DOES TONS OF GOOD FOR EVERYONE! So quit the nit-picking and vote for whoever
you want!
Angie Hills
My only comment to Andrea is Oprah has plenty of time in the future to ask Governor Palin, Vice president canidate to be a guest on her show. I say lets see what the end will be. What’s the rush.
I’m with Oprah this is not the time to send mix signals. She’ll have all the time in the world to interview Palin if she wants to be interviewed.
Whenever a woman asks for something, people don’t listen well. So, as a man of the house I must ask for something. This is the EXACT SAME SOMETHING that my weife asked for but received NO SATISFACTION.
STOP THE SUBSCRIPTION TO “O” MAGAZINE. IF THIS MAGAZINE ARRIVES AT MY HOUSE AGAIN, I WILL CONTACT THE NEWSPAPER AND TELEVISION STATION TO MAKE A MORE PUBLIC STATEMENT. GO AHEAD OPRAH- I’M FROM MISSISSIPPI TOO, I DON’T BLUFF.
AGAIN, STOP THE SUBSCRIPTION TO “O” MAGAZINE.
Fox, you constantly fail to be objective when it comes to people of color. Any non-white can say or do whatever and it is ok. McCain can cheat on his wife and it gets passed over. Palin can promote teenage prenancy and the country loves it. Place either of these two situations on any non- white candidate and it will stay in the headlines as a negative until another negatives appear. McCain can run a nasty campaign and you just don’t care.
You basically represent the bias roots that will keep this country, yes, Our United States of America devided as you continue to feed the Conservatives/let us keep it as white, no I mean, as right as possible folk.
Fox deserves the highest award for supporting all those THINGS that continue to devide this country.
Palin would tell you that God does not like ugly!
Can anyone answer a couple questions for me?????? please????
1. WHY IS A PERSON RACIST IF THEY HAVE A DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHY OR OPINION???????
2. Is Oprah Winfrey above people voicing there opinions about her. why shouldn’t we.?
3.Is she a religious figure? Is she a politician? Historical figure?
NO, NO, NO,…..SHE’S NONE OF THOSE THINGS AND THIS IS WHY WE HAVE FORUMS LIKE THIS, SO PEOPLE CAN GIVE THERE OPINIONS,… ITS INTERESTING TO KNOW WHAT OTHERS ARE THINKING………Oprah’s not precious china we can share thoughts about her all day long and if its offensive to you get off this site and go watch her show!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stop your crying…..!!!!
Did you say Palin should appear on Ellen! That would be the day Ellen renews her wedding vows!!!!! That is funnier that watching the Bill Mahr show. What happended to the Pit Bull? Sounds more like BS
Just another veiled rasist.
Enough is enough.
Oprah is a person of deep integrity. She belives in light, unity and love. She has done a lot for not just one race or gender but for everyone, in fact. She unites people with the power of love and understanding.
It’s the reverse: closed for business is the mind of the people who never understood her, in fact.
I’ve seen another blog where about 4000 obsessed people keep writing and writing and writing.. and see no reason. They refuse to understand her– because frankly, that serves their purpose better.
OPRAH IS A U.S. CITIZEN. SHE MADE HER CHOICE– AND EMOTIONAL BLACKMAIL WILL NOT WORK. OPRAH NEVER HAD A SINGLE CANDIDATE ON HER SHOW POST THE ELECTIONS. SHE WILL NOT BRING ANY CANDIDATE ON TILL AFTER THE ELECTIONS NOW. SHE HAS DECIDED TO REMAIN NEUTRAL. THE FACT THAT SHE DID NOT BRING PALIN ON HER SHOW (BRING UP THE RATINGS).. AND DID A GIBSON-STYLE OR CRUISE-STYLE BOMB.. SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT HER INTEGRITY.
Please get your facts straight before writing nonsense like this.
Palin-McCain does not have me fooled. What happens if McCain dies. Palin becomes the first female President. That woman has know idea what to do except mess things up. And I think all the Hillary voters will come to their senses that Hillary might run again next term and it will be her that will be the first female president. That’s what Hillary would want. That is to all the Hillary voters.
I am sick of Oprah Winfrey!!!!!! I don’t watch her anymore and it is clear to me she has not listened to Barack Obama or she would not be supporting him to the extreme that she is!! She is clearly interested in his color!!!!!
I am hoping she is digging her grave and that her”empire” is going to soon FALL!!!!!
Well, I guess everything that can be said has already been said. I just want to reiterate that neither the news media, Oprah, Matt Damon, NOONE is going to influence who I vote for. They all have their own opinions…opinions I may or may not share. I’ll just do my research on each candidate, pray about it and vote. Too bad that Obama did not make Hillary his VP - he would have gotten my vote for sure. As it is, I am truly impressed with Sarah Palin. Right now it looks like I will be voting Republican for the first time in my life - we’ll see….
You all let your panties get in a bunch over nothing.
Oprah said she’s have none of the candidates on. NONE.
That includes Palin, since she is a candidate.
So this is just part of the FOX BS republican panty bunching campaign. You are really SO easy to manipulate.
So, move one. Go get your panties bunched by the next non-issue. Go on, you know you want to. You love your panties up there.
Your commentary has several typos. It’s her show. It appears that this may be bothering you most of all. Obama will probably lose - not because of Palin but because alot of white Americans won’t be able to grasp the idea of a black man in the “white” house. It’s a sad day in America when we are discussing lipstick and glasses instead of issues - issues that, like it or not, will affect all of us.
Oprah isn’t a hypocrite. In the past, she has voted for republicans and democrats, men and women, whites and non-whites. However, she feels so compelled by Obama’s message and Obama the person that she cannot let this historic moment pass and not support him.
Our country is in a downward spiral. Why do the white middleclass not understand that the Bush years as well as McCain’s proposed tax policy only make the rich richer and the middle-class poorer??? Look at the stats people. The Bush years have been unkind to the middle-class but incredibly kind to the rich.
I happen to be one of those people who earns >$300K a year. And even I believe the rich (people like me) need to be taxed more. The middle-class deserve a break. McCain and Palin won’t deliver that. Obama will.
I believe Oprah sees the crisis that our country is in, both domestically and in terms of international relations. She sees that a man like Obama has a special effect on people and has the potential to unify.
Kudos to Oprah for backing that vision. It’s her daytime show. She decides her guests. Switch channels if you want to see different programming.
Oprah Winfrey is an amazing hypocrite! Oprah says she is in favor of a bill aimed at child predators. However, Oprah promotes a book by the head of pedophile cult. It is claimed that this book, written by a child predator, speaks for Jesus Christ in his book, “A Course in Miracles”. Oprah promotes this book and of course by inference, pedophile leader, William Thetford, every single day on her radio show. The evidence of women testifying before Federal Hearings about their sexual abuse as children by Oprah’s championed author’s organization can be found by links to a website: http://www.newspiritualbible.com/index6
Aren’t you all tired and don’t you tire of the name bashing, criticism and bias? Gawd, its so old and you would have thought you would have learned by the tactics and overwhelming failure of our current administration, but there you go repeating the same old propganda, using the same ole tactics….bashing, bashing and more bashing and a whole lot of untruth mixed in. Throw enough of it around and you get some believers out of it. Kind of like herding the cattle to their own slaughter - poor dumb souls. A nice analogy for those who continue to believe all the negative propaganda.
Like immature children who bully there way through life. Shame on you jumping on the band wagon to bash Oprah. Do you have so little going on in your life or are you so miserable that you relish bashing a woman who has done so much good and who has been so productive and contributed so much? Gawd, its so typical - you are most likely the same individuals who are quick to call someone a tree hugger and accuse liberals for ruining our country. And when is FOX known to practice unbiased reporting - which is what journalism should be? Shame on you and all your bias, you are no more than a propaganda machine for the current administration and politics as usual with all its corruption, power and greed. The denial by you all is disgusting. And you all have the audacity to bash Oprah. You are idiots and it shows…oops did I say that?
Let me just say your ignorance is the fuel behind your name bashing and criticism…get a life, please.
Ask yourself, why even be angry? Or Question The power house “Oprah”? It’s no secret Oprah is for Obama. Don’t you love our free country. Oprah, a self made success story has the beautiful right to choose. People can criticizes all they want, but… the truth just is. I doubt Oprah is stressed out about it. She works on such a different vibration. I admire her so much for being the being that she is, able to take hate mail, etc. ANd still just speaks her truth. Which is “I’m voting for Obama” ANd America just has to realize, she’s the best sales person out there. Think about and ask yourself! WHY!!! She’s a giver, educator and downright living Saint in my opionion. It’s been her actions through life that have landed her where she is at. Some Hot shot Republican Nominee didn’t just ask her for vice presidensy. Yet, you want Oprah to interview Palin. She will, in time, maybe? Just REalize, her truth isn’t about interviewing Palin. She wants Obama to be President. Why would she want to debate this with Palin? ANy sane person, like Oprah, would not!!!
I already put a comment on the “Oprah” website, but I just can’t resist. How incredibly disingenuous of Oprah? She did have Obama on her show, and encouraged him to run for President! I truly feel she’s afraid of Palin and her no-nonsense approach at life! Yes, there is another woman on the planet besides you! Never again will I be an “O” fan!!!!! I read the comments of all the liberals on this site who responded; shame on you all! You know there is media bias, and you encourage it!!!!
OK..OK…Listen all liberals …..So, OKRA Does…Not need to have Palin on!!!! fine ,..ok,..there you go…you win…stop getting you all freaked out……!….We still have to deal with the Obama Issue.? DO NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!! If you are a Hilary supporter…..Besides the fact that he has absolutely no idea what the hell he’s doing,…the record shows that he pretty much gave (the Hilary voters) a kick to the head…….He should have chosen her for VP. I’m sure he’s b**CH slapping every adviser for that huge slip up…lol..Is Joe Biden on something like qualudes or some sort of sleeping pill???? Im asking because he seems drugged……..like he needs a cup of coofee or several……So please get out there and vote for Mccain/Palin……..Dont give OKRA, THAT MUCH CREDIT SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY AS TO HAVE PALIN ON THE SHOW.
Where’s the experience………
Revered Wright…..
Foreign Policy
Has Never PASSED ANY LEGISLATION..
.the country is caught up in the concept”.
do you want me to keep going?????? DO SOME RESEARCH BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR THAT FREAK!!!!
Good Job Oprah! Thanks for recognizing that Sarah Palin is not good for women’s rights.
It appears that some people are really losing their mind! Like someone else pointed out, Obama has not been on Oprah’s show since announcing his running for the presidency. She has clearly stated that she will not use her show as a venue to promote any candidate, and she remains true to her word. The fact is that she is a woman, whose name is recognized not only nationally but also internationally and when she makes an endorsement, everyone notices. She may influence some but not all. In the end, it is just one wote (hers). I am so grateful that she will not interview Palin until after the election because I think Palin needs some tough questions on her qualifications to be the VP. Right now, in my eyes, she has none!!!! Her reference on the bridge to nowhere is being repeated in every speach she gives. Not sure how that will work when she has to tackle some real-world issues, at home and abroad. I also think that she was selected only because Obama didn’t select Hilary Clinton. If Clinton had been the VP nominee, Palin would never even existed for the majority of Americans. Honestly, McCain/Palin ticket pales in comparison to Obama/Biden! I am white, I am a woman, and I am strong. And she won’t get my vote, Oprah or no Oprah! And I’ll keep appreciating all that Oprah has done for women so far.
Oprah is a hypocrit….enough said.
Right on Doris!!
Women made Oprah very wealthy. By not supporting her fans’ request , inviting Gov. Palin on her show, and not supporting Hilary, means that she really doesn’t care about you. It’s all about her business and her own interests. I’ve seen that episode on her show where she made racist remarks with her girlfriend. Boycotting her show and products is not enough. All of her fans should be informed about how she fooled all of you. You are being deceived. She’s two faced and a racist. I’m scared of the country’s future if Obama will win. He is cloudy. I’ll take my chances with McCain. He’s proven himsef and he knows what’s best for the country. With Obama, it’s all just talk.
It is a shame with the many positive and individual success story shows that Oprah is credited for, that she fails to see the amazement from American women of a woman such as Palin who has landed in a position that no other woman has ever been in. How fair is it of Oprah to impose her views in the selection process of who she thinks women want to hear about?. Strictly promoting Obama is a bit self serving, don’t you think?
To the masses of women that “juggle” all that is going on in their lives, how refreshing to have a personal interview with someone such as Palin who exemplifies someone definitely “juggling” it all. At this pinnacle in her life, to ignore her and treat her simply as a candidate does not show Oprah in a positive open-minded way. And, that is tremendously disappointing.
In this position of supporting “black” or “woman” Oprah has definitely shown her choice to all of us. And, that takes alot away from my impression of the “mission” of her show and her personal reason for being.
Oprah has shown the public just what she really stands for. She is a racist that sucks the white people try. Wake up and ban her show.
Typical excessively wealthy star power i.e. Barbara Striesand type trying to use their power and money to influence public opinion.
Even though I know Oprah to be a good person, I have lost a lot of respect for Ms. O for snubbing Sarah Palin. It seems that Miss Winfry is worried that her $200,000.00 donation investment in O’Bama might be lost all due to little Sarah from Alaska… it all makes me laugh.
Nonetheless, what worries me is reading some of the most ignorant and arrogant typical liberal rhetoric statements that have been left on this sight. Does no one have an original opinion?
As I watch Nancy Giles on CBS [whom I like]… deliver a nasty “a typical Black Woman” response to Sarah Palin makes me realize that, People not being able to see past color… is mostly people of color.
That’s the way I see it anyway.
As I tell my daughters and my assistant… it doesn’t matter if we’re not supporting the same candidate… all that matters is that you vote!
Right on !!! what is Oprah afraid of ?!!! I have been an Oprah fan for ever she does great things but not having S.Palin on her show is a sell out I’m very disapponited.
Roe v Wade cannot be overturned. That is scare tactics by the lefties. Oprah is a racist.
She has a right to cover whatever side she wants to support and she is doing so. Some of her books promoted (as truth) for the best seller list are total falsehoods.
I never watch her show. Palin doesn’t need this lady. No Oprah isn’t a right wing bigot, she is a leftie racist.
Spare us your cries of fowl play, when speaking about the treatment of Sara Palin in Media. Your organizations’ planned strike of the Opera Winfrey show is ridicules. The supposition that Palin’s interview on the Oprah’s show is warranted merely on the basis that it would be a great American story for woman is specious, and disingenuous.
When people say, “they don’t know who she is, nor what she thinks” stems not from the context of them knowing her every day affairs, but rather, when placed in their proper context, they are statements of what are her qualifications for holding the office of Vice President of these United States; thus, a more appropriate form for interviewing Palin should be conducted by a new journalist, and not on by a talk show host.
Do her qualifications rest on the notion that she says so, I think not! I never received a job, barring the absence of an interview, merely on self-assessment.
Seriously! This is total B.S. Under what obligation is Oprah to have Gov. Palin on her show? None!
As a woman I am not very impressed with Gov. Palin. I do not in any shape of form identify with her. She does not represent me nor my interests. neither did Sen. Clinton for that matter. I believe this country is founded on the freedom of choice, so Oprah has the right to er…excercise her freedom to have whomever she pleases on her show! Seriously what is this about? Femininity or race/ Cause right now this article is loosing big time. All I see is a white woman attacking a black woman, because a black woman will not have a white woman on her show, but is endorsing a black man. Seeing as oprah is both a woman and black, don’t you for one second think that it was a tough decision for her to make?
I just happen to be black, female and mormon…yeah how do you like them apples. For some the choice is easy for others not soo much! Come on cut the woman some slack!
Andrea, you are hill-arious!! At this point I don’t care much about Oprah. She lost her credibility when she endorsed Obama. She was a woman’s advocate and she abandoned this position as soon as this charismatic young man appeared on the scene. She abandoned her professed “mentor” and “hero” Maya Angelou. She was on her way to become a king maker. This is the epitome of every woman’s dream, to be a King Maker.
For what? Whoopi was more honest. She said in the “View” that her heart tells her to vote for Obama but her head tells her to choose Hillary. She voted for Hillary but she did not reveal this until after the primary.
I do not understand how Sen Obama is presented as the first Black President of America. I thought that title was given to Bill Clinton. Obama does not represent black Americans. He is American because her was born on American soil to a white mother who was strong enough to withstand the “hostile stares, the whispers that would have driven a woman in my mother’s predicament to a back-alley abortion.” (Dreams from my Father) . He did not share Oprah’s experience. His skin color is from a Kenyan father of Kenyan nationality who abandoned him when he was two years old. His Kenyan ancestors owned slaves! To me, the real hero in his life story is her mother.
But, right now, she taking a leave of absence from being a woman’s advocate. I have tuned Oprah out since she abandon her women’s advocacy.
I stopped watching Oprah or buying any of her products or things she endorses as soon as she made her big Obama splash.
I think it’s time to boycott her sponsors as well as her show.
For goodness sake, does Fox approve of anything that Oprah does?!
TO ANDREA TANTARAS… POOR PITIFUL YOU… TO BE SUCKED INTO THE EMPTY LABYRINTH OF THE SARAH PALIN PROPAGANDA MACHINE… BUT I FORGOT, YOU’RE A REPUBLICAN BEFORE YOU’RE A WOMAN! YOU SHOULD BE INSULTED BY THE VACUOUSNESS SARAH PALIN AND SCARED TO DEATH THAT MCCAIN MIGHT DIE AND SHE MIGHT BECOME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES…
BRAVA TO OPRAH FOR REFUSING TO BE DRAGGED INTO THAT INSANELY DANGEROUS FREY!!!
hahaha i wonder if ellen would actually interview palin. last i heard palin’s church was trying to pray the gay away
Give me a break. You need to have your I.Q. tested . . . . You sound like Elisabeth Hasselbeck - incapable of any kind of logical or flexible thinking. Oprah is just fine. Go buy some more lipstick.
Oprah, doesn’t need to have anyone on……But its a proven fact she has had Obama/on HER SHOW~RECENTLY!!!! I still have no idea what he stands for??? All I hear him say is “Change we can Believe!!!! Oh “I BELIEVE ONE THING”……IF HE GETS IN OFFICE.NO NO NO….LETS NOT HAVE THAT HAPPEN,…..he will mess this country up so bad…..You will think your in Cuba………he’s the lamest Duck……and sleepy Joe Biden…OMG He couldN’T buy a reaction from people,. he really puts me to sleep like a meditation cd…BRING HILARY BACK AT LEAST THERE’S ONE OUT OF 2 THAT KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING!!!!!!AND IM NOT TALKING ABOUT OBAMA….I BET HE’S WISHING HE HAD HILARY NOW????? Mccain/palin……thats my choice,,,,,,,,,…..Obama……..is not getting my vote……..If you vote for him you ,………you could pull anyone off the streets and tell them to run for prez………….He’s Awful;….and I love that funny southern accent….!!!!! lol….hello your from hawaii and some other country..!!!! Not Georgia or south Carolina……..Stop acting oBAMA……….HILARY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!
Oprah, you turned off your show to all women; now I’ll turn you off.
Oprah is not obligated to have Sarah Palin on her show. Get over it!!!!
Can we please get off the gender point and focus on the issues? I could give a rip whether there was a woman on the ticket…it is about the issues and who do you believe can fix the damage from the past 8 years. We are looking at a deficit our grandchildren will be paying!!!
If you believe in your candidate’s issues, then vote for that person. Be realistic in the fact if either presidential candidate is unable to complete their term…you are also very much voting for the next president.
Get a grip.
Brava! Oprah. If Oprah is not having ANY candidates on her show, why try to bully her into having Palin on her show? I guess the marketing machine that is creating this entity called “Palin” had their heart set on showcasing her on Oprah. Well, any real thinking woman can see through what the Republicans are doing; Oprah show or no Oprah show.
Should Palin be commended for somehow “having it all”? I guess. I am sure she has worked hard to get where she is. She has shown me that she is tenacious and strong willed and determined to get what she wants and any cost. Is this the kind of person that I want to see as VP; as “a heartbeat away from the President”? Absolutely not.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE WRITER “MY2CENTS” !!
I WAS a HUGE fan of Oprah’s until now. I respect everyone’s right to choose. But Oprah with her so called “enlightened spirit”, and “openmindedness”, turns my stomach!! I have watched her show for years and have also watch the Obama’s be on her show…Hillary Clinton be on her show…What’s the big deal with Sarah Palin?? Oprah is clearing showing where she draws the line in the sand regarding her political views. Even though she seems to be dodging this issue (not wanting to have her show as a platform for political issues) we are not all stupid!! She has already taken that stand with Obama. I have lost a huge amount of respect towards Oprah since this thing with Sarah Palin has come out.
Even if it was just about “womens issues”… Sarah has jumped leaps and bounds for someone of her age and family size. I and so many other women are so proud of Sarah Palin, and Oprah should be raising her up as the very likeable, strong, achieving woman that Sarah is!!
This was not a good move on Oprah’s part. I’m pretty sure she will feel her ratings, and respect drop from all over the world.
Disappointed in Washington
To the author, and i quote “But I must say, to be 44, a former point guard and beauty queen, a Governor, a reformer with five children, AND a special needs child and now the first Republican woman to be nominated Vice President. You have electrified women across the country.”
Pallin supporters think she would make a good president because of her experience in the following:
1)A former point guard?
Yes, we should give her credit for being a ball handler. That makes her qualified to be president.
2)A beauty queen?
How does being a former beauty queen give someone experience to be president?
Putting makeup on? Traveling the world? Yes, those are the most important things a president should learn.
3)A governer? A reformer?
And what has she done? Does anyone feel the effects of her being governor? what has she improved? Um. nothing.
4) A mother?
Yes, she is a mother. But so are most women in America. So, what makes her so special? She is bathing in money, while the rest of us middle class mothers have to struggle and actually take care of our kids. Pallin isnt raising hers. She has a nanny for that.
5) Has a special needs child?
At least she has all the money to support the child. Its much worse for mothers on welfare who have a special needs child.
I see the true colors of America. That’s why I will never trust them.
Why Oprah? If Oprah wasn’t an Obama suporter you all wouldn’t be whining about this issue. Can I get you all some cheese to go with you whine? Is Sarah Palin appearing on Oprah’s couch going to validate what’s she’s done? Is she a celebrity now? I haven’t seen her on any shows. You all are not trying to boycotting Regis and Kathy Lee, Tyra Banks, Bill O’Reily, The View, Letterman, Jay Leno or any of those other shows. If Oprah says no, she means no. She doesn’t let Ice Cube and Fifty Cents come on her show. I guess she’s sexist and hate her own self. Oprah is a billionaire. That show is only a small portion of the Oprah brand. Do you really think it’s going to hurt her? Are you all crazy? Stop going to getting looney and ga ga over Sarah Palin. She running for VP, not trying to win an Oscar! “You people” haven’t changed a bit.
You said everything I could possibly say except: I will not watch Oprah anymore. I was an ardent fan and listened to her opinions on all subjects. All I can say is “Go Sarah”!
Celebrity racism at it’s best. But this is nothing new coming from Oprah. She has long been a closet racist which is the worse kind because they are not even true to themselves.
Oprah has more money than brains or talent so she’ll dismiss this issue until she starts sliding in the ratings and her mag sells start to slip then her team will come up with something that makes her look like she actually likes white people. But do not be fooled. Ask her where the school for poor White Euorpean kids is? Noprah only wants to help the black. Thats very obvious to all but her kool-aid drinking sheep.
No true American should ever watch this self serving racist again.
Do not support Noprah!!
is sarah palin running for queen of fluff or auditioning for a part in a new movie or new sit com/ after all she is applying for the job to be a head of state and not promoting her new book/ whats next tmz or a center fold spread in playboy magazine/ the citizens of this country are not fools but our government officials and the media personalities make us look foolish to the rest of the world…
Watch the documentary Bush’s Brain: The story of Carl Rove - if want to understand the Republican “junk yard dog” approach to politics that is currently at play. The Republican stategy is to discract you form the real issues — that is why they chose Sarah Palin. Kudos to Oprah to not providing a forum for a non-issue — Sarah Palin.
Well written.
I agree.
The only black woman to get the masses to read ANNA KARENINA has more than shown her true colors.
She cannot get past her zeal about the prospect of a black man in office to give kudos to a woman who VOGUE thought was worth mentioning..and we all know who Anna Wintour supports.
I am no longer going to watch her show.
She just lost me as the occasional “O” magazine reader as well.
It’s funny people started whining about Oprah while the McCain camp was saying Palin was not
qualified to do interviews.
The fact is Oprah has not had any of the candidates on her show during the election campaign.
She endorsed Obama but has not had him on the show since before the primaries started.
Bravo to Oprah! It’s her show and everyone should just shut-up about her guest list. If those “kool-aid” Palin women want to boycott the show, so be it since Oprah will have a large remaining balance of intelligent female viewers.
Why do you find that Oprah Winfrey needs to have Sarah Palin on her show to symbolize her support of strong woman? Oprah has not had any of the presidential nominees on her show and you want her to make Sarah Palin an exception…why? First of all as much as you would like and others who keep going on and on about this topic Oprah does not need your support. Oprah is a billionaire and I’m sure she will be fine. Secondly there are many other woman in whom she should have on her show before Saral Palin. Did you ever think that that everyone (as myself) do not find her to be all that interesting. I feel that she is a fraud and a liar who along with John McCain and the republician party have manipulated the Americian people.
