The Whole Thing Is So Surreal

I thought Hillary gave a very good speech that served her purpose of giving the Democrats a sense of buyer’s remorse. But the whole thing is so surreal. Everyone knows that deep down, Hillary would like Obama to lose so she could run again in 2012. And if we had any doubt, Bill Clinton is out there with semaphores signaling their ambivalence about Obama.

Sure, she came out and talked all about why McCain had to be defeated and we couldn’t have another Republican president. She said the words urging Democrats to unite in electing Obama, but it was rather a generic endorsement saying we need a Democrat in the White House so we won’t have all the awful things happen when Republicans control the executive branch. There was no specific reason to support Obama just the fact that he was the Democratic candidate. There was nothing about him to suggest why specifically this man should be president except for the fact that he is a Democrat who won the nomination. And, as Tom Bevan noted, she left out the reason to vote for Barack Obama that is his weak spot that she’d questioned during the primaries — she never said that he was ready to be commander in chief.

So she told her followers to support Obama. Which message are they supposed to believe — what she says or what they know deep down she wants? It all seems very postmodern with messages on different levels that people can decide which resonates more with them depending on if their goal is to help Hillary achieve her dream of winning the presidency or whether it is to make sure that the Democrats win the top prize this year.

I suspect that most of the people who voted for her are traditional Democrats who want their side to win. And Obama is now their quarterback so they’ll rally behind him and he’ll get a nice bump in the polls as those Democrats come home. But that won’t be because Hillary told them to do so but because they just don’t want the Republican to win. If voters were such determined supporters of Hillary Clinton that they were just waiting to get the signal from her telling them what to do, why would they ignore her sub-message that she will be back to run again and the sooner the better?

Surreal?

Fox’s TV coverage of the Democratic Convention has been non-existant, not surreal?
I didn’t see John Kerry’s speech broadcast on Fox TV. Is that is because John dissed your sweetheart, Carl Rove.

I also missed the Steven Spielberg tribute to our troops on Fox News.

All I see on Fox news is a bunch biased reporters flappin their gums.

Go ahead a post this Mz. Moderator.

Are we to blame Hilary Clinton for not having emphasized Obama’s strengths, strengths that Obama himself has so far been unable to figure out and articulate to the majority of the American people? Hilary can only do so much; and cudos to her for being so graceful in the face of so much meanspiritedness sent her way by a hypnotized media. It is not to Hilary to convince us that Obama deserves to be president. Obama needs to do it himself; and so far, besides his ability to emulate Martin Luther King on a telepromptor, Obama has demonstrated no substantial competency for leading the most powerful country on the face of the earth. This is a euphoric moment, I concede. It makes us all feel good to see how far we have come, how much prejudice we have overcome, how closer we are getting as a nation. Nevertheless, lucidity and clearheadedness is what we need most at this time. For after all, we are trying to elect the president of the United States of America, and not a notion of social expiation.

Can you tell me why Hillary never wears a dress and how many pantsuits does she own? I’m just curious.

Comment by Larry

I don’t think anyone truly believes the Clintons are backing Obama. They are just buying time.

Comment by Janet

I couldn’t keep my mind on her speech. I just wonder why she never wears a dress. She must own a truckload of pantsuits.

Comment by Larry

I think the Clintons are just waiting for 2012. I don’t thank they like Obama at all. I feel sure that
both of them threw up after their speech. I’ll just be happy when the DNC is over!

That is what I thought she was trying to convey. Bill’s speech put Obama with goals so high, it would be impossible for him to reach. So should he be elected in November and fail in 4 years, then Hilliary can come out and say “I told you so.” Might even hear tales of how Obama forced her into supporting him. Not saying that is true of course, but something she might do.

She did not say that Obama is qualified and can do the job because we all know he has no experience to do anything in the Oval office except smoking crack? I do not blame her for not saying anything good about this guy if she doesn’t believe in it. The democratic party needs her and Bill Clinton to help them win this race. It’s almost like we are voting for Hillary instead of Obama. He will never win this race without help from HillaryClinton. This just goes to show how discriminated we are of women. Women can be the best candidate but still not get the job because she is not a man. And then we turned around and hired a man that has no experience at all and asked the qualified woman to help hm with the work because he can’t do it. Americans didn’t think she is good enough to be the president but we agreed that she the best person to help win the election. Shame on us all. Even country from third world has moved forward, but we still live in the 19th century.

Surreal is an understatement. Creepy, bizarre and weird comes a lot closer. Clinton has tossed her people down the toilet in the name of politics. It saddens me that she supports the racist, terrorist Obama. Just goes to show, politicians will do anything to secure their own as#ses.

Give The Hillary Show TWO Oscars. One for best actress and one for best best director. She did not give a ringing endorsement for Obama, nor shoud she have. What’s to endorse? She did push the radical leftist agenda, socialzed medicine, a woman’s purported right to murder with impunity, equality, i.e. comminism, higher taxes, radical environmentalism, etc. She did make the outrageous statement about Obama knowing how to fix the world’s problems and ended by telling us to think of our children and grandchildren, I assume she meant the ones we decide not to annihilate.

She did what she intended to do, leave the door open for her supporters to bail and wait four more years so she can run again, while paying lip service this round’s victor. In summary, she did a great job of accomplishing nothing for her party and watching out for her own interests. After all, that’s what a Clinton does.

I feel sorry for Hillary. I cried my eyes out when she gave up. Barack Obama got to where he is by cheating and lying. Proof of it will come out in the far future!

It seems that women NEVER win anything worthwhile in this world. She was by far (by far, I say) the better candidate. How a man such as Obama can become President makes a mockery of the United States. I is all just plain stupid and sad.

If Mc Cain wants to win he better make sure that the electoral fraud being planned by the Obama camp DOES NOT go forward.

I also think that Mc Cain needs to show public affection to his wife after the rumours that he insulted the hell out of her a few years ago, in public. If he does that he will be UNBEATABLE.

Your comments in my opinion are nothing more than speculation. It does Hillary or this country any good if Barak loses. George Bush’s re-election is proof that McCain could be re-elected even after doing a bad job the first four years.

This is to the point and well stated……

Not too long ago, Hillary gave another speech it went something like this…McCain has given a lifetime of service to his country, and Obama has a ’speech’ he gave in 2002.

Another great column…. Thank You.

Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton both DID voice support of Obama in their convention speeches. Why? Because they had to; they had no choice whatsoever. They could not say, do, or seem to be doing ANYTHING that would enable Democrats to think - or the media to postulate - that they weren’t fully supportavie of Obama, the Democratic nominee. Even the beloved Clintons couldn’t behave that badly and have a hope of continuing domination of the Democratic Party direction.

Bill can’t be President again and Hillary can’t be President in 2009. BUT, Hillary can run again next time and both she and her child husband need to be able to say “We told you so” and “Get it right this time.” They did what they had to do but only Helen Keller would have missed what wasn’t said by these two.

I went to the library to pick up a new voter registration application to become an independent. The fiasco of the DNC over Michigan and Florida disgusted me. The major disrespect to Hillary was unforgivable. First, I AM LOYAL TO MY COUNTRY AND NOT TO Democratic Party. Now, its up to McCain and who he chooses for vice-president. ( I am one of the 18 million who voted for Hillary). Obama, said, Hillary would be on anyone short list for vice-president. Well, she wasn’t on his short list. He’s a hint, Obama is not on my short list.

Comment by Brendt

Well, at least in what they say, both Hillary and Obama agree on something. They both realize that the ENTIRE substance of why one should vote for Obama is because he’s not McCain (read: “change”).

In response to Joe Blow ( what an appropriate name):

Thank God there were no liberally biased, in-the-tank for Obama reporters flapping their gums at the DNC.

As for their coverage being non-existant, you must be living in a cave with no access to tv, radio or the internet. Personally, I’m sick of hearing nothing but coverage of the DNC.

Comment by Jacqui C

Let’s not forget that Biden said that Obama was TOO in-experience. Let’s not forget that while McCain has associations with Bush because McCain is a Senator and has to work with Bush. In the meantime, Obama has associations with Wright, Ayers and Rezko….all which are seedy. When we talk about guilt by association OBAMA LOSES!

Comment by Capt D

Actually, I’m voting for McCain and hoping Palin replaces him in the first year,… now there’s a president I can get behind, somebody whose actually worked for a living and isn’t a lawyer,… oh, was that redundant?

Comment by LENETTE

Thank you for your insight which I totally agree with and have suggested to those around me only to be ignored OR looked upon as someone from outer space. It’s nice to know others are of same and sound mind and we shall be awaiting the next CLINTON drams!

Hey Joe Blow, your name fits you perfectly!

Not at all surpising my contradictions of the press and the way they are enamored by Republicans and voice in their articles and coverage are not printed, however; the comment on Lanny and the praise I gave him was?

Comment by Josephine

I thought Hillary & Bill were amazingly gracious. What meaningful leadership, or accomplishments, of Obama could they point to?

It WAS surreal - everything was backwards. Hillary should have been the nominee, but race and Soros prevailed.
