Once a Pedophile, Always a Pedophile

By Lis Wiehl
Former Federal Prosecutor/FOX News Legal Analyst

Brooke’s uncle…her stepfather responsible for her kidnapping, rape, and death? Unthinkable…But sexual assault of a child is unlike any other crime. Why? Because someone who is willing to cross the line to pedophilia can never turn back. A shoplifter can be rehabilitated, a burglar can be rehabilitated, even a murderer can be rehabilitated. But not a pedophile. Once a pedophile, always a pedophile. And the children drawn in are the most hapless of victims…betrayed by the people most responsible for taking care of them…tragic.

The death penalty has multiple reasons for existing. One is punishment (that reason is kind of silly - you can punish someone with life in prison). Another reason is as a deterrent (but it must be swift). That reason is reasonable (but usually not done quickly enough). The best reason however is protection of society. Prisoners may escape, they are released, and they re-offend, they commit more murders, rapes, etc… It is the responsibility of government to protect society, and one way to do that is the death penalty. Child Rape is an obvious (except to the Supreme Court) justification for the death penalty - so the rest of society can be protected.

Unbelievable how vulnerable many of the children in this country are. Go anywhere in public and you will see children not in view of their parents. There is a general ridiculous belief that they will be okay. I always held to the belief no matter what the odds were for accident or more evil event with regard to children, it couldnt possibly be worth the risk.
I want to strangle the murderer, and all of you out there who are oblivious to the risks our children face daily.
If you are not willing to protect them at all times, DONT GIVE BIRTH! Your child can become the next perp for my family and future children. You have now put my family at risk, and that is UNACCEPTABLE.
Any and all of you out there who have been molested/raped and terrorized, I hope you find the peace you deserve, and my prayers are with you, please do not pass on this misery.

I know first hand that someone who abuses children can never be rehabilitated. I saw in my family, abuse go from one person to the next and the next. Then those they abused went on to abuse others. It carried from one generation to another. I feel that no matter how many programs they put them through or how they may promise never to do it again they have no power over it. When a child is abused it scars them for life. Most abusers have been abused. But you really may never know how many victims there are because the victim may have a fear of “coming out” and having attention drawn to such a horrific time of their life. The system does not know how this effects a person’s life. The suffering is not over when the abuse stops. It is in your life forever. The abuser can never be helped because they will lie and manipulate the system just like they did their victims. I do not agree with the Supreme Court ruling. If you put all of the child molesters in jail for life we would have to build so many prisons that we would never have enough to hold them all.

TO LISA So sorry that have gone through this just like me. I know what it does to your life. Don’t ever give up trying to recover though. Keep fighting! Don’t let him win.

What persons are at fault for the death of this 12 year old victim?
Simply stated - it is the justice system of Vermont AND the Mother of this girl AND the Aunt!

In the state that I live in, the parent will get charged for leaving their young teen-ager at home alone.
This Mother needs the book thrown at her for neglect of this child. Does she have any other children?
The parents of the 14 year old that was abused for years by this scum-bag, needs the book thrown at them too!

And…the freak’n pedophile? Execute him by the worse means possible before he asks Jesus Christ for forgiveness and he WILL stand at the golden gate in front of Christ and will be rejected by him and thrown in a Hell of fire. The pedophile will suffer, because there will be nashing and gashing of teeth, but the torture will continue for an eternity. This is an action that NO Justice System can control.

I was molested as a child, and in turn I talked to my children as soon as they were old enough to understand the word “uncomfortable” to either tell me or if not me anyone they felt would listen to make sure and tell them that someone had touched them in a way that made them feel “uncomfortable”. Well it paid off, when my daughter was 15, my husband at the time, not her father, had started “touching” her fortunately she had someone she trusted, her ex-boyfriend, that she could go to. She told him what was going on, he took her to his house and with his mothers help they let me know what was going on. Today my daughter is doing great, she’s married with 3 beautiful boys. Her husband knows what happened to her and he supports her any way he can. I wish someone had that same talk with me when I was young. And yes I believe once a pedophile always a pedophile, I should have seen the signs, his wives, including me, were always at least 25 years younger than him, he always wanted her to stay home when I went to work and he regularly asked her to rub his shoulders when he was “stressed”.

In 2007 there were nearly 300,000 sex offenses committed in the US. Less than 15,000 were committed by someone convicted of at least one sex offense. Do the math.

The Dep’t of Justice, in November 2003, shows a 5.3% re-arrest rate, and a 3.5% re-conviction rate. Half of those in the study were convisted of chld molsestation. Do the math.

Sex offenders receiving treatment have a reoffense rate of 2 to 3% - Multiple studies!

Only one criminal offense has a lower reoffense rate than sex offenders who have received treatment - drunk driving!

Sex offender registries and laws have been in place for 10 to 15 years. No study has yet found they have resulted in reducing sex offenses.

We spend hundreds of millions on the offender registries, and little on educating parents and children.

FACT: Which is more likely to happen to your child? Molested by a repeat (1) sex offender OR (2) molseted by one of the following first time offenders… teacher, minister/priest, camp counselor, police officer, scout leader, parent/sibling/other relative, your best friend, … Answer (2).

The only way sexual abuse of children is going to be decreased is though knowledge and accurate information. Without that our lawmakers can’t make laws that address the problem. Kneejerk solutions will only propogate the problem, and possibly make it worse!

Comment by Former LEO

A sexual predator can never be cured. Advocates for rehabilitation may entice you to believe that and having shining star examples of success stories BUT let these “cured” predators back out into the world. They may fight their desire for months and even years. Some will use alcohol, some drugs to dull their senses but in the bitter end, they will ALWAYS revert back to their predator ways. Not every predator wants to be in his/her situation and there have been cases of self mutilation on up to suicide but the majority of these predators seek no help and have no self control and they are out there EVERYDAY watching, lurking, desiring their prey. Eventually they will strike and if you’re not paying attention, it may be your child they prey upon. Embrace your child, talk to your child, let him or her know that NO ONE is allowed to touch them in places their swim suits cover. Teach them to scream and run. If we, the non predators, are not here to protect our children, who will? Brooke should never have had to endure the pain and suffering and untimely death that she has. She now will never have her moments of “firsts”. If this is not what you want for your own child, then do something! If we remain silent because we feel uncomfortable about the subject, we will never be able to reach a solution. No one has the right to take away our childrens’ innocence before they reach the age of consent and are with someone they truly love. No one has the right to destroy our childrens’ childhood and happiness. No one has the right to fill our childrens’ lives with fear. Again I ask, if we are not here to protect our children, then who will? IMO Brooke’s whole ordeal was a preventable one. Shame on the lawmakers who let that monster loose on society, shame on his wife who turned the other way. Please help to make this stop, do not let Brooke’s death be in vain. Brooke, no matter how many years go by before I meet you in heaven, I will keep a hold of you in my heart. I will never forget.

Comment by Michael

When are Brooke’s mother and aunt going to admit their responsibility in her death and be held morally and legally accountable? Brooke’s mother’s crocodile tears turn my stomach.

Both women married pedophiles and Michael Jacques was allowed around their children and other relatives’ children by these women even when they knew what he had done and his history. One has to question why both women sought sexual predators as partners and did nothing to shield their children and relatives from a known sexual psychopath.

I think Brooke’s biological father shows great restraint in not traveling to Vermont to make his ex-wife and former sister-in-law pay a steep price for their role in his daughter’s unnecessary and tragic death.

With 60-day sentences for repeat child rapists and parole after only four years for proven violent sexual psychopaths Vermont will only continue to become a haven for deviants. The “hug-a-thug” Vermont legislature and legal system have reaped what they have sown and Brooke has paid the price.

We need to differentiate between that which has been assigned to man - such as defining punishment for the commission of crimes - and that which is more properly within God’s purview.

As for those who commit the heinous crime of molesting a child, the institutions of man should weigh carefully the severity of their actions and punish them accordingly. In doing so, they provide justice to victims, and, if they are wise, a means to ensure the pedophile receives no additional opportunities to harm other innocent children. For this reason, governments are instituted among men and must be held accountable to the principle of protecting the innocent.

Each person has offended God through sin, and whether that sin is lying, theft, gossip, cheating, adultery, fornication, lust, hate, homosexuality, murder, or others, without the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and turning away from such things, all who practice them are condemned. It does not matter whether committing the sin is also a crime. In God’s eyes, “all have sinned and fall short of His glory”, and therefore the just penalty for any sin is death. But God showed his great mercy toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us!

No one - even a pedophile - is beyond God’s mercy and forgiveness, and we who are redeemed should extend the same to others. As a Christian, I want to do those things that I see my Heavenly Father do - and that means forgiving. For in the same manner in which we forgive, so shall we be forgiven by our Father in heaven. Understand that this does not mean wicked and vile people should be allowed the benefits of liberty in our society- they should pay the just penalty demanded for their crimes, and the innocent should be protected. I am instead speaking of spiritual things.

On the other hand, man classifies evil according to how it seems to affect or offend the majority of people at a given time. As sensibilities wax and wane over time, laws are changed accordingly. Thus that which was once known to be puerile and harmful - like pornography and adultery - and therefore was also made illegal according to the laws of man, is now rampant and mainstream. Suddenly, we find ourselves surrounded by sex offenders and wonder why. Just because we amend our laws to countenance evil, does not mean God’s laws stop working. Do not be deceived, God is not mocked - for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap. We cannot sow sexual promiscuity and expect to reap a wholesome and safe society. Amazingly, we keep trying, and then wring our hands in dismay at all the violence and perversion! Sin inheres slavery – it does not matter how “free” the society. Freedom is doing willingly what I ought, not what I want.

Do what you will with those who commit crimes, only be wise and remember that God’s principles of life cannot be set aside without grievous consequence.

When a repeat offender comes before a judge and the judge gives him a light sentence, the judge shoud be required to bring the person into his home and live with him for a period of time. See how he feels about having this person up close and personal.
Until this country gets serious about putting these same judges back on the bench, we will continue to have some that handle these people like jay walkers instead of the vile people they really are. Know the people you are voting for when you go to the polls. Find out their records on how they handle these things when they are sitting on the bench. They affect our lives as much as anyone in public office. Vt. is not the only state that has liberal law makers.

Comment by Cindy

All sex offenders are not rapists, molesters or pedophiles. Some are on the sex offender registry for having sex when both (college instructor/student or co-workers) were drunk but she “can’t remember if it was consentual”. Some because he was 18 and she was 14 but they were having sex prior to him becoming “of age”. There are levels of offence for theft (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th degree) as well as murder (1st, 2nd, 3rd degree & manslauder). There are no such distinctions of severity for sex offenders. If we, as a society of responsible citizens, expect justice we will need to establish some way to differentiate between the offences (type of offence, age & status of victim, physical harm & severity, emotional/mental harm, past history of offender and level of risk for re-offending). Then we will need to consider a course of appropriate action. A lesser degree with low risk for re-offening might benefit from long term treatment, a medium degree or person with a medium level for re-offending may need prison sentences of varying lengths. The rapists and murderers are obviously at high risk for re-offending and should get the death penalty.

How many children have to be hurt before all of the liberals in this country quit saying they “may” be able to be rehabilitated? This should not even be an issue. If the government would set these crimes to be punishable by death, I believe ( and I am pretty sure that I am not alone on this) that it would be a deterant for these sickos that prey upon our kids. People in this country need to quit feeling sorry for these criminals and saying that they need help. The only thing they need is to be wiped off the face of the earth.

Comment by Derek

Just what Fox needed– another airhead “legal analyst” who has no clue what she is saying. Remember Wendy Murphy stating there is no such thing as a false rape charge during the Duke Lacrosse case? Now you have Lis Wiehl spouting the famous “pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated” myth. Yes this case is tragic, but incredibly rare. The vast majority of Former Offenders do not reoffend, as Brooke’s uncle had done, while the vast majority of sex crimes are committed by are first-time offenders. And of course, once again the comments are filled with the mindless sheeple blingly bleating in unison with the comments made by the irrresponsible media. Why don’t you lern a few facts, and educate yourselves on the true nature of sex crimes? All these sex offender laws failed to prevent this crime from happening. Even if you “kill all sex offenders,” it will not prevent these rare tragedies from happening. Maybe you people should learn to educate yourself on the facts and look beyond your blind reasoning if you wish to prevent these things from happening

I agree, once a pedophile, always one. Therefore, death is the only just punishment for the scumbags who would stalk, kidnap, rape and murder our youths. No forgiveness, no remorse… death. Let “god” sort them out.

Comment by John

Amend the constitution - pedophile = no due process and immediate death. The cannot be rehabilitated only exterminated. How many children would be alive today if we faced facts and did this?

Comment by Jim

I sadly agree, what is worse the State of Vermont and all Elected Officials have failed to protect children in that state. I hope the voters wake up and make changes, their is no excuse that these so called leaders have failed all the law abiding citizens. What uis worse the this creep was under the care of the State. And all the leaders who did not support Jessicas law bare also the blame and the shame. The next question is, how many more victims are there going to be before they protect the children in Vermont.

Comment by Gary L. Taylor

It seems as if a pedophile was once a child who’s family looked the other way. Maybe a family member commits the act or a family friend. NO one come to their aide. So now we have someone that must be dealt with because his or her life was screwed up. (Some people call them nosey neighbors who need to stay out of other people business). But if we truly had a good neighborhood watch our streets would be a little safer, Don’t you think? I just don’t want to get involved, isn’t that what we say when there’s a problem. No matter how small something appears to be on top there may be a deeper issue underneath. We can’t stop everything but we can stop some things.

What is your son or daughter doing today? What are they allowed to do? Do you have a computer at your house? Do your children have an account on Myspace? Do you know? Will they tell you if you asked them? How well do you know your child? What is your relationship like? If they have a friend who is going through some issues, will they come to you and talk to you about it? Who are their friends? Is your relationship with your child built that way. Are you there friend or are you their parent? Do you confront them when you see chances in their behavior? Or do you just let it go because it was a rough day at work? How much time to you really spend with your children? How much of what they say to you, you really listen too, really? How many of us see other children suffering to only say, what a shame or look the other way? It is easy to say what we should do to these criminals, but remember that they were once a child. Who saw the signs and just dismissed them? It’s not my child! We look the other way so much that we can’t see straight.

This is truly a bad thing that happened and my heart hurts. But what’s hurts even more is that some of us who are commenting to this know of someone who is suffering. Maybe not from the acts of a pedophile but from some form of abuse. “HELP” if you can. I know that’s hard to do sometime. But you can stop a child or an adult from being a victim. Alcohol, drugs or sex crimes, if death is the result for looking the other way we will keep commenting to these aritcles never to see a end. “HELP” if you can find the strenght. I pray for all who are suffering from the acts of this and other crimes in this country.

What these pedophiles really need is a short piece of rope and a tall tree. Unfortunately our society is unwilling to dispatch these scabrous dogs, preferring instead to blame their behavior on illness. We could stamp out this particular disease if only we as a people would grow a spine.

This is a very complicated issue. It is NOT a black and white issue. There are over 600,000 “witches” that you are willing to burn at the stake here. If one of them was your son, grandson, husband, father you may not be quite so willing to lump them all into one category. There are so many studies out there, just sitting on the Internet waiting for you to educate yourself on this complicated issue. The mob mentality of “kill the monster” is very frightening. Please remember that when you read sensational garbage in the media that it is just that, sensational garbage. If it bleeds it leads and sex sells, and sex offenders sell even better. There are many risk assessments that can be used to determine if a person is a pedophile or not. AND, like an alcoholic who is always an alcoholic, but no longer drinks, so can even a pedophile learn behaviors to stop him from ACTING out is desires. As I said, this is not a black and white issue. There are so many shades of gray. I urge all of you intelligent people to find out the facts for yourself rather than be led by the nose by self serving media.

“Once a pedophile, always a pedophile” was made up by an idiotic, thankfully FORMER, prosecutor. SOME pedopholes are helped by therapy, the false premise lets the ignorant vent anger.

Comment by DJCW

Put to DEATH? In Florida, your 18 year old son gets death for making out with his 15 year old girlfriend. The age of consent is 16 if the person is 22 or younger, 17 if older. This is an ignorant commentary followed by largly ignorant responses. Is it OK then to molest the elderly?

Comment by Ken

Why do you think that murderers, strong arm robbers, and other violent affenders are able to rehabilitate? I can show you that most of them reoffend, just like the pedophiles. Why is this violent crime the only one that cannot be solved by rehablilitation? That is a “Witch Hunt” attitude, because most violent criminals reoffend. Check the stats in any state and you will see the facts.

I think all violent offenders should be on a national list so we can see where they live, and I don’t think with the current system that we can rehabilitate them. Most of them reoffend.

To be truly fair and balanced, you should check your stats, and then make a statement about violent crimes.

How in the world could a parent bring a child into this world and then subject them to this horror? These children are precious and should be protected. It goes without saying that the man that did this should be removed from society.

to the “Vermonter Born & Raised”….

No one is saying that these types of crimes don’t happen EVERYWHERE. WE ALL KNOW THAT. I believe the point we are all making is how we deal with these offenders, and obviously, Vermont’s way is NOT good enough. Yes, that’s great that it was Vermont’s first Amber Alert…..that doesn’t mean that horrific crimes aren’t still happening to our children (most likely by repeat offenders) just because we’re not searching for them. And, once these crimes are committed, Vermont is not doing enough to keep these creeps locked up. What about Megan’s Law, Jessica’s Law???

Sorry, the efforts put forth to protect our children by the State of Vermont are weak at best. Something needs to be done and NOW!

I moved to Vermont 4 years ago from New Jersey, and all I can say is that I am sick to my stomach and sad to say that I am a resident of this State knowing that they are doing little (if anything at all) in preventing these horrific crimes. REHABILITATION IS NOT AN OPTION!!! I have emailed Gov. Douglas requesting the appropriate avenues to address in order to push for more protection of our children. Anyone who believes rehabilitation for these criminals works is definitely fooling themselves. I really hope & pray that the State of Vermont wakes up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for repeat offenses, most convicted sex offenders do not have a lengthy history of repeating the crime. The U.S. Department of Justice reported a recidivism rate of 3% to 5% three years after release. A longer study found that three out of four did not re-offend within 15 years. These laws offer no protection against first-time offenders, who are responsible for 87% of reported sex crimes against children.

now back up your statement

That is a perplexing ascertainment. It is a disturbing crime, and the victims are helpless for the most part. Being a Roman Catholic I see what it has done to our Church, yet it seems to be everywhere. It just happens to hit the news when it is in the Church. I have prayed for little Brooke and her family, all of them. There is evil out there, it is not some mental condition, yet rather conscious volition. I dont believe in rehabilitaion for any criminal, though I do believe, with contrition, a person can be reformed. The shame of the deed must not overshadow the hope of Salvation. There is only one “Unforgivable Sin”, Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Yet Christ did say: ” How you recieve these little ones, is how you recieve me”, sorry I know it may read different that actual verse but I am no quoter of scripture mind you.
The sad reality is that people put themselves into a fantasy world, where “natural urges” become perversions unto themselves. Sex is a very natural and sacred thing, unless you happen to be in a brothel or porno store. We have allowed ourselves to be perverted into this nightmare, and we have lost ourselves.
I ask that you never leave out the hope of Salvation, for anyone. All of this tragedy is going to fade into eyes of eternity, in a very short time.
Now I must remind you that I would not abide in the failure of not seeking justice against those who could care less about our precious Humanity, for I was once a criminal.
Be Well and God Bless
Robert

I don’t think there is evidence to support the pedophile label in this case. However, a life was taken and the door has been opened to the death penalty.
Sexual abuse is no excuse for becoming an abuser. It is also no excuse for becoming an eternal victim. But we have long time victims here whose depression could easily turn them into abusers but we don’t want to hear any excuses.
A little parental responsibility would have saved this child but all of the adults in her life seem to have failed her. She is now in a safe place.

I just checked the sexual offender wibsite and found 166 offenders in my own zip code. How many are in yours? Any one of these could be a potential Jaques, a real ticking time bomb. While I live on a large all fenced lot with dogs in the yard. I still worry while my children play on their own proerty. I keep a constant vigil, knowing full well that it only takes a second to snatch a child and vanish. Seems these scum bags have placed us all in our own sorry prison, by removing our freedom to feel safe or even allowing our children to play safely on their own property.

These threats to our children should not be allowed to consume any more oxygen much less space in our communities. I’ve been watching these types of stories involving children on the news now for the past twenty years and I’m way past fed up! It’s time to grow a spine and do what needs to be done to protext our society, not only for our children, but grand children. Death sentences for 1st time convicted child sex offenders is way over due. Write you senators and congress people and let them know this outrage has to stop!!

Check your neighborhood here to see what’s lurking..

Wow, this article really hits home with me especially since a year ago to the day, I found out that my husband was abusing my 4 year old daughter. 8 long months later, after they found him in Georgia (since they were in such a hurry to release him since it was the 4th of July holiday) and he hopped the first bus out of town. Then the prosecutors on the case took forever to even get the DNA evidence……He was finally charged last November with 3 counts of FELONY 1 counts of rape. In the meantime, it had also came out that my other 2 children had been “messed” with also. So I turned it in that he had done it to the others to Children Services. Children Services nor the Prosecutor wanted to follow through with charges on him because they were boys (ages 3 & 8) and they said that since they could not retrieve “evidence” off the boys that they could not charge him. Even though both boys told horrific tales of what he had done to them in one night they would not even let the boys testify in their own defense nor their sister’s defense.

So plea bargin after plea bargin (like 6 in total)……it finally goes to Trial in February this year. With DNA evidence from all three orifices of her body! The courts were then allowed to drop one charge and amend the other 2 charges down to gross sexual imposition on a minor, because my daughter was not deemed old enough to testify, nor would they let her brother who was old enough to testify-to testify!!!!!! He only got 9 years eligible for parole after 5 years-only has to register as a tier II sex offender for 25 years. He is eligible for parole sooner if he completes a one year sex offender “rehabilitation” program in the next year.

The courts did NOT defend my children or me at all! They didn’t even commend me for turning him in or sypathize with our family at all. Do you want to know who they babied and blamed all of his faults on society!….???? My Husband! His attorney and the judge even acted as if we weren’t in the room during trial when they discussed his lifes hardships and all of his mishaps and personality faults……then they let him speak to us! Where he apologized for his “ignorance” and stated that he still loved my daughter. Gavel dropped, judge spoke, and we were rushed from the room. Since February, we still have had nothing done for the children. They got no family advocate, no victims support, nothing! And trust me, I checked everywhere. I was told that no one was trained in my area to work with children as young as mine. So one year later I deal with babies who still have nightmares and speak of the incidents often, while wetting beds, fits of rage, and sleep walking!, while I work hours and hours to support my 4 children. And I feel like their/our lives were robbed from us- while his will be handed back to him with no disruption since he arrived at prison where he gets 3 meals a day, a place to lay his head, cable TV, a chance to further his education, commensary, regular breaks, and a roof over his head that my tax dollars are paying for- while I struggle daily to keep bills paid and a roof over ours, let alone, while I’m piecing pieces of these childrens lives back together……slowly……I will never celebrate the 4th of July again without a heaviness in my heart and tears ever again! What a awesome “free” country we live in right? It’s my children and I who I feel like who are imprisoned now in the mess. While he sits some time and gets a clear conscience!

I believe that child molesters/pedophiles can’t and won’t change, I had 2 so called brothers who molested me as a child, my so called mother abused me physically, mentally, and I think that both parents knew they were doing such things. I was adopted when I was a baby, I finally got away from them when I was 16 1/2. My friends told them what was going on, I told them, they did not listen. I do not have anything to do with that sorry excuse of a family. Later in the years I was called to testify against one of them that molested his wifes niece. He got sent to prison, but didn’t have to serve much time because Daddy dearest knew some people and pulled some strings,(had influence on some of the higher upper people). I personally would like to blow a hole in all of them, because they got away with anything and everything, and still probably do!! Who says money can’t talk,(unforunate, but true)

The recidivism over all for these two groups combined is VERY LOW. Incest recidivism is 1 to 2 percent because once caught, they never do it again.

The overall recidivist rate for first time offenders is in the single digits and yes, The success rate is 50% for pedophiles. Pedophiles make up for the smallest amount on the state registries. Ans understand this, INCEST IS NOT PEDOPHILIA. There is a huge difference.

95% of all new sex crimes are committed by people NOT on the registry. The threat does NOT come in large part from the stranger danger as the news media would like you to believe but from members of your own family and circle of friends.
Jessica’s Law is ineffective because with it does not have one ounce of prevention in it. Neither does the Adam Walsh Act, residency restrictions or public registration. Not one of those laws has ever been linked to preventing one sex crime
Prevention through Education is the only way we are ever going to stop this madness. Promoting myths, lies and hysteria certainly isn’t the answer.

Remember, all these laws were passed on the assumption that recidivism was high. Anyone can disprove that with a little goggling or visit my site, read the articles and check out the links that lead to other great sites. Listen to the experts. Perhaps those of you that are pro-castration should consider the larger implications of the crime. First of all, castration, chemical or literal, cannot be considered a viable replacement for isolation from children. The second, and most important consideration, is that these crimes are not solely sexual in nature, therefore removal of the offending sexual organ cannot guarantee cessation of the abusive behaviors. Sexually based crimes are emotionally dominance and violence based acts not simply sexual acts. It is not a matter of “attraction,” but it is instead a complex mixture of psycho-social issues. It won’t work.

Buy some cheap real-estate in Siberia and move them all there to live in a commune responsible for growing their own food…

It is also time for parents to realize that if your children are not monitored then they could be victimized. How many stories of the neighbor’s father…etc have we heard? Your children do not have a divine right to have slumber parties and sleepovers. Sometimes being strict (a decidedly unpopular stance) means saying no to unsupervised time with other families, not dressing like a trollop, and not participating in sites that encourage lascivious contact between young people and adults…FACEBOOK and MySpace…YouTube, etc.

I’m w/Joe, beautifully stated. However, I think the mother or the aunt should be held accountable too.

Quote: “Because someone who is willing to cross the line to pedophilia can never turn back. A shoplifter can be rehabilitated, a burglar can be rehabilitated, even a murderer can be rehabilitated. But not a pedophile.”
I wish someone would post the documentation for such a statement. The reason they don’t is because there isn’t any reliable documentation to support such a statement. Yet, the entertainment news media will go one and continue to promote the myths, lies and push the hysteria button across this nation.

This guy is innocent until proven guilty. The media has fried him and he has no chance to redeem himself. Let’s see what evidence they have and make a decision from there. I am so sick of the media destroying people’s lives…..

I think the key is that anyone who would do such a thing to a child has a problem that cannot be cured by medicine, science…..They need to be exterminated. Just like the innocence of the children that they exterminated. They are bottom feeders, one and all. How many times are we - American Citizens - going to allow our judicial system to let these low lifes second and third chances so that they can hurt more and more of our children?

Where was her mother? Why would she let her be around her uncle? Shame on her. We as mother’s must protect our children.

There are many in the left who oppose the death penalty as “uncivilized”.

I submit that, to permit a person who rapes or abuses a child is an affront to decent civilization.

Executing pedophiles is civilized, allowing them to breath our air is uncivilized.

’nuff said

Wow Lis, this is pretty “different” thinking for a wacky, left-wing nut like you.

Sorry. You people who recommend a bullet in the brainpan for child sexual predators are pansies. There is probably not a single child predator out there who does not operate under the protection of a wife, girlfriend or other family member or friend. We need to pass legislation that allows the death penalty for anyone of these types of people, including neighbors, who has ANY knowledge of any activity or even suspected activity by one of these sub-humans and does not report it or does not cooperate in the prosecution of these monsters or refuses to answer investigation questions by the police. Just a little added incentive to cooperate if you could die by keeping your mouth shut.

I consider this “chemotherapy” or “radiation therapy” for this cancer. Wipe out the cancer and everything around it. This crime happens because of silence and denial. Vermont is the playground of child molestation because Vermonters put their head up their green mountains and pretend it’s not happening…

The parents that allowed this guy around their children should be locked up.

To curb the influx of sex offenders and other sex nuts — All I hear are — apply another band-aid. What is it about the word CASTRATION that is so hard to understand?

Comment by Jane

The uncle was a KNOWN SEX OFFENDER. I think it is ridiculous that this child- among others- were even allowed around him. If a member of my family was a known sex offender, they would not be allowed around my children without proper supervision.
I agree that once a pedophile, always a pedophile. We can forgive, but we can not forget.
Sex offenders should have their penis’s cut off. Jail does not seem to do much, other than use our tax dollars to support them as they watch TV, receive free meals, etc.
What a tragedy. My heart goes out to Brooke’s family and friends, and all others affected by such situations.

Comment by Frank

All sex offenders, in my opinion, should be castrated. I also think that men in general do not protect. Men allow men to do these unspeakable acts against children and there are barely consequences! How can a man even defend such monsters? There is no clear message of what is right and what is wrong. There are loopholes and excuses and whining and crying. There should be zero tolerance and outrage and righteous indignation! Men need to stand up against this evil once and FOR ALL.

You can thank the immoral, liberal members of the Supreme Court for most of the raging sexual crimes in America. They wouldn’t protect decent citizens from pornography on the Internet. Now, they refuse to allow capital punishment for crimes against children. When will they learn?

Our country has continued a decline in high standards, heading us all toward more destruction. Laws have to be made to keep those degenerates from harming us all. The last few generations have many who have grown up spoiled, lacking discipline and without any regard for God who made us. He gave us his son, Jesus and the living word, the Bible. Our forefathers believed. Our country became the sanctuary for all who wanted to worship and live in freedom. America became blessed, the most wonderful country ever. This was “In God we Trust”. I hope we don’t go down so far, that God will turn his back on us.

Please give us stronger, selfless leaders with wisdom and courage. We need protection, not more liberal gifts for those who need to be restrained from evil.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

YOUR COMMENTS RFELATIVE TO PEDOPHILES IS 100% CORRECT. WITH THIS IN MIND, THE LAWS NEED TO BE STRENGTHENED TO PROVIDE CONSIDERABLY HARSHER PUNISHMENT IN AN EFORT HOPEFULLY TO DETER THOSE AMONG US THAT PREY ON CHILDREN. IT SEEMS WE ARE HEARING MORE OF THIS THESE DAYS AND A STOP MUST BE PUT TO IT.

I find myself wondering the same thing as Noelle . . . why in the world would this girl’s mother let her go with this idiot . . . alone . . . without another trustworthy adult present?!?! She had to know his past.

What a vile world we live in these days. I, for one, have watched my boys and girls like a hawk to hopefully avoid such abominations; and my wife does likewise. We know which relatives must be avoided and we never allow ourselves or our children to spend anytime alone with others, especially of the opposite sex. But these days, we have to be careful even with same sex relationships.

I have never understood how a man (or woman) could commit such a dispicable act. Because of this “unknown trigger” that causes a man to commit such a crime, I have counciled my children from a very young age, that should anyone, including their own father or mother, behave or touch them in anyway that is innapropriate, they have our permission to turn us in to someone, anyone, police, church leaders, school leades, anyone! In fact, we insist that they do. And if anyone else should do such a thing, they turn them in as well. Even with that, it is so hard to protect and shield our children. One daughter witnessed an idiot exposing himself near her school. I was in another state at the time and though she acted quickly, the police did not find the idiot. So, he is still out there doing the same stupid things.

I agree that anyone who hurts an innocent child in such a way should be executed, as it says in the scriptures. For that matter, anyone who forces anyone else to do anything of this nature against their will should also face death . . . referring to rape. It is my opinion that in many cases, rape and molestation can be worse than the murder of a victim because of the long lasting after effects. But I am not of the mental health profession, so what do I know? I’m just a guy who has children and now grand children . . . who would die (to a certain extent) if something like this happened to any of my children. I’m also a man who would hope that society would put me to death should I ever commit such a crime.

In the meantime, since the laws don’t put such vile criminals to death, we are left to deal with them and try to help them keep from committing such crimes again. And how in the world do we do that? And with so many single parent families being forced to leave their children in the care of others . . . how can they ensure their children are being watched as they would watch them?

Anyway, I can’t figure out how to solve this one right now. I have a coupld of kids left at home who want to do stuff with dad on the 4th of July. :) See ya! And good luck protecting those little Angels that God has put in our care! :)

The Word of God says different. Sin is the cause of the fall of man from Grace, and it does not make any difference what “kind” of sin it is. If you belive God created the human being, you should also believe that he knows how to help His creation in all things. Of course creation would have to want help from God, but that does not mean that there is no hope left for it. God has turned far worse people than Jacques into ones that have shinned for the Glory of God. It might be imposiible for man, but nothing is impossible for God. I pray that you also gain this life giving assurance.
In Him,

I personally don’t hold much store in organised religion, I mean, they even refer to their believers as sheep??? The whole talking snake, and Noah thing, I just can’t do it. BUT: having said that, isn’t their something in the bible and the word of God that protects children over and above all else. AND the god you refer to, is a pretty vengefull, violent god…name a war that hasn’t been fought in his name. SO, I doubt, if he were as you all believe, he would have much to say about taking one more pediphile off the face of his earth. In fact, I bet it could earn the guy who pulls the lever a few brownie points.

I’m disgusted with all the “Bleeding-hearts” out there who want to try to salvage any pedophile. Why on earth would you even want to try. These are not humans…they are animals and vicious ones at that! We would eliminate a rabid animal and that’s what we have here. A rabid animal!

If all you idiotic, bleeding-hearts want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the victims and their families.

By the way, if this happened to one of my family members, the pedophile would NEVER MAKE IT TO COURT!!!!
