Once a Pedophile, Always a Pedophile

By Lis Wiehl
Former Federal Prosecutor/FOX News Legal Analyst

Brooke’s uncle…her stepfather responsible for her kidnapping, rape, and death? Unthinkable…But sexual assault of a child is unlike any other crime. Why? Because someone who is willing to cross the line to pedophilia can never turn back. A shoplifter can be rehabilitated, a burglar can be rehabilitated, even a murderer can be rehabilitated. But not a pedophile. Once a pedophile, always a pedophile. And the children drawn in are the most hapless of victims…betrayed by the people most responsible for taking care of them…tragic.

How is it that John Walsh can get therapy for his sex addiction? How is it that Mark Foley can get therapy for his sex addiction?
Therapy does work. That’s a fact!

The other fact is, “ignorance rules the day.” Laws based on emotion make for bad law because emotion has no intelligence.

Yep, evil has taken control of this world and is running rampant, and all the Christian hypocrites are surely showing they do not practice what they preach.

Do not judge a person by their words, but by their actions.

So how many hear claim to be Christian???? Or are you making it what suits your needs?

Guess we all have forgot what Jesus came and died for, haven’t we?

PATHETIC, AND I MEAN THAT….

GOD HELP YOU ALL!!!!!

My child’s father is an educated, attractive man, no one believed it when he got busted for failure to register as a sex offender. He was trolling churches for boys & worked in a children’s ward at a hospital. He was living a double life in a new town, neglecting his own daughters to go groom little boys. His minister father, teacher mom & girlfriend knew he was not supposed to be around kids and he was getting nearer to kids every day and they said nothing. Now I have to fight to keep him & his parents from visitation. Besides being a pervert he is a selfish parent in other ways as well. I wish I’d never told him or his rotten relatives I was pregnant. In letters from prison he writes (in reference to being busted) “someone decided to interfere in my life”. He takes no responsibility for what he has done nor does he aknowledge that he was wrong in pursuing time alone with little boys. He doesn’t want to change. He thinks he is fine.

There is a difference between a “sex offender” and a “pedophile”. A sex offender is also scum, but a pedophile has a sexual attraction for CHILDREN!!!! Here is the definition: pedophile (Brit. paedophile) >noun a person who is sexually attracted to children. A pedophile can not be rehabilitated! Ask one. I have seen many interviews on TV with pedophiles and never once did they say that they could be rehabilitated. Every one of them said they would do it again. In their sick minds, they don’t think that they are doing anything wrong! I really think the death penalty is the only way to “treat” these “people”. I don’t know what is wrong with some of you people (example: Eugene, Bobby, Capca, Willy, Stupid (good name for you by the way), Linda, and Mark (propaganda?????)). You people must be from Vermont or worse (if you know what I mean). I always told my children, while they were growing up, “if anyone touches you or hurts you, let me know and I will take care of the matter myself”. And I would have! This kid glove treatment of pedophiles has gone on far too long! The only real “treatment program” that is guaranteed to work is the DEATH PENALTY!

Thankfully for all of us my mother in NJ is on the bench doing every thing she can to keep these sickos where they belong, behind bars, even after their time is up. The only place these animals belong is in custody. To let them out is a crime against all of us.
Keep up the good work Mom.

I currently have a major issue with this issue because of my neighbor. He is a pedophile that molested my 5 year old niece among other children around the same age. WE NEED TOUGHER LAWS. This man served just over 2 years and is now back on the streets. He is also has things that are prohibited because of his prison sentence including a PS3, bb gun and a machete which he hides when his PO comes to visit. I also suspect that he still has his 22. I think people that prey on young children are the lowest form of species. I think that legistalion should be passed that these types of people should not only be banned from living near children but be barred from living near families of their victims. We also have children living right across the road. I believe this pedophile needs to serve way more time then he did. The reason in my opinion that he didn’t serve more time was because most of the kids that he messed with was too young to talk well enough to tell anyone what happened. This guy makes me sick.

Comment by Elizabeth

As a mother I will do everything in my power to prevent my child from this, but as a parent I believe we have a right, not provided from the government but higher, to do ANYTHING we need to do to not only protect our children but also prevent it from happening again or to another child.

Comment by Tommy Williams

The news media is creating a moral panic around pedophilia. All criminal categories include those who can and those who cannot be rehabilitated. The truth of the matter lies within the human mind, and is therefore unknowable.

Comment by April

To be honest with you, I do not care whether someone who rapes and molests 12 yr olds is called a pedophile or not.
And I do not care about the repeat statistics. My only concern is that the punishment for this crime for first time offenders AND repeat offenders be swift and harsh enough to cause someone to think about the consequences before doing it.

And to the comment by Willy
“To start off with, lets be clear about one thing, a pedophile is an adult who is sexually attracted to pre-pubescent children (those younger then about 12 or 13).”

If you had checked the facts of the story, you would know that the 14 year old victim Jacques was having sex with since she was 9.

I do not know about you, but I have grown daughters, and I now have nieces in the pre-teen years. You can technically tell me that is not considered a child all you want to, you would be wrong. Maturity and physically these are not adults. 2yrs old 9, 10 12 15. These are not adults geez Granted a 12 yr old is not a baby but it certainly is not an adult.
So call these men pedophiles, call them sick perverts, call them whatever you want as they are being removed from the planet.

I certainly do agree that the mother and the aunt do play an important part in this. And neither were doing their job when it came to looking out for the best interest of Brooke.

Comment by Willy

Convicted sex offenders re-offend at a rate lower then any other crime except murder. The registered sex offender down the street is not the problem. Instead look to those who are closest to the children.

Comment by christi

I do believe everyone does deserve a second chance unless it comes at the expense of a child.

Someone commented that isn’t murder as bad as the actions of child molestors and pediphiles. I have to disagree…the victim may lose their lives but a child has to go through life…day to day, hour by hour, minute by minute…with the memories and pain as a result of someone’s actions. At least in death, the victim has some peace.

Comment by Andie

I agree but you should support your arguments with reliable research - even if this is just an opinion piece. “Once a pedaphile, always a pedaphile,” is a very strong statement and one that requires you back it up with proof that rehabilitation does not work.

Comment by Paul

Eugene,

While I would say that the crime is just as bad if not worse than murder, that’s not the point of this article. This article is simply stating, once a pedophile, always a pedophile. I guess I want to know why this is so hard to accept. We told “once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic”, even after one goes “dry”. This is accepted by almost everyone. However, as soon as someone states the provable fact that once you cross that line of pedophilia and child rape, you never go back, people fly off the handle about forgiveness, these people are really just troubled souls who need a hug, etc.

Comment by Jeff Collins

If you believe that there is justice for children in this country you are mistaken. My daughter was in a sexual relationship with a teacher, she was 15 he was 37.If you knew the truth behind how she was led into this it would make you sick. The teacher was given probation as the judge didnt see why jail time was needed for his “mistake”,this all happened in the last month not a long time ago so things haven’t changed, also wasn’t in California or New York or Vermont, this is from small town Kentucky. If you like to read the story just do a search on the name “Michael Colvett” he is the convicted offender. The community did not support us and that is one reason why more parents dont do the “right thing”.
Until we come to the support of victims and their families this problem will continued.

don canard…

your comment about the “book of myths” is ignorant of the facts. Obivously your thinking is based on opinion and not evidence. Here are just a few things that you can research for yourself, and if you apply an unbiased approach to your research and follow the facts, you’ll find not just convincing evidence but compelling evidence that the Bible is true, factual.

- Science has confirmed that the Universe had a beginning and was intelligently designed.

- With the discovery of DNA and the fossil record, Darwinism has been virtually abandoned by science.

- With archeological findings, the Bible has not once, in thousands of discoveries, been proved incorrect.

- There are about 191 different predictions in the Bible of the coming of Jesus. They were all fulfilled. The odds of just 8 of them coming true would be the equivalent of a Tornado plowing through a junk yard and completely assembling a fully functional 747 or, covering the entire state of Texas with silver dollars two feet deep, marking one, and having a blindfolded person wander the state and pickup this one marked silver dollar. And not just once, but three times. Some of these predictions include the moment in time when Jesus was born. And died. What town he was born in. His ancestry tree, how he died, just to name a few.

- There are 10s of thousands of copies of the New Testament found all over the world, written within the lifetime of Jesus’ generation, in a lot of different languages, and they are all basically the same. 99.5%. The .5% is grammatical changes.

- No other book in antiquity was written so early after the fact, has so many copies, has outside corroborative evidence, such as Roman and Jewish historians who wrote about Jesus, has thousands of archeological finds and not one that has disproven anything said in the Bible.
I don’t know about you, but with evidence and odds like that, I would be doing some serious investigations into these claims. Especially before I post to the world that it’s a myth.
Oh, as far as child molesters go, they are subject to the laws of the land as dictated by the people. My opinion is death. Jesus said that it would be better that a person not have even been born, if they harm or lead astray a child. That’s good enough for me. Just my opinion though.

Let me know if I can help with this…

Ms. Wiehl is wrong, inexcusably wrong, at least twice over. First, criminals who rob, steal, and break and enter are far more likely to repeat their offenses and sooner than are sex offenders, including pedophiles. Second, and more importantly, she states that pedophiles can never be rehabilitated, a foolish statement for anyone to make but an alarming statement if it is consistent with federal-level prosecutorial beliefs. Surely, pedophiles and child molesters (two quite different categories) have “crossed the line” but good grief, has not also a murderer? Sexual abuse of a child is a horrid crime, but is she suggesting that crime is more deplorable than murder?

Comment by Greg/new london, nh

The solution is very simple………… First, if convicted with absolute evidence (DNA etc) then a special death penalty should apply….. I call it the “30 thousand foot exicution”. wrap the condemed in 1/8 wet suit, goggles, hog tied with oxygen bottle strapped to leg… 2ft drag chute attached and dump him out over the water at 30,000 ft over a military bombing range….

Now to a more realistic approach….. there are PLENTY of stats that show that only 6-8% of our population commit more than 95% of all the crimes……

Let’s just set aside prison space for approx 6% of the population of each state…… and REALLY put away criminals for a PUNITIVE amount of time……. and this “good behavior” thing……. rubbish…. the only reason that is in place is for the ease of maintaining of prison behavior….and has NOTHING to do with rehabilitating them…. I say…. if you act inappropriately in prison…. treat it as a new crime…and then add more time. Solitary confinement is a beautiful thing! If these violators of society realize that the punishment is more costly than the crime they commit….. some will not commit the crime. Those who do not wish to change their ways, then they will be removed from society, and, hopefully from the gene pool, and this combination will weaken their grip on those who are lined up to follow in their footsteps.

I feel judges/lawmakers/correction managers have forgotten the true purpose for which their titles are for. They forget they need to protect the law abiding citizen from those who, for whatever reason, fail to live up to societies standards. AND THAT MEANS THIS SOCIETY! It matters not that some places allow, and in fact encourage, marriages involving children, WE DO NOT!

Time to take back our country and our culture!

Comment by Michael

Ms. Wiehl:

There have been many recent criminal sentencings of pedophiles (often highlighted by FOX but not the other networks) where pedophiles have received very light sentences predicated at least in part on the opposite sentiment (that a pedophile can be rehabbed). Given the very limited space in our prisons, is it at all possible to jail all pedophiles for life without parole? I suggest Americans must confront the “reason to be” of all prisons. Are we warehousing the bad guys away from us? Are we trying our hardest to make them law abiding citizens and if we are is it working? (I say no it is not). If we are just warehousing the bad guys should we not be building not one but many new prisons and in every neighborhood. I do not pretend to know the answer but the question is NOT being asked.

Comment by Mel

What I want to know is, why did the girl parents let her run around with the uncle who was a registered sex offender? Were they insane? Surely the subject of recidavism among sex offenders has been covered enough in the media for them to know it was dangerous.

Comment by Amelia

I worked in a mental health clinic for over thirty years and staff there who worked with pedophiles all uniformly agreed that pedophiles might be controlled through fear and constant supervision but not through counseling. Most of these counselors started out with positive attitudes towards pedophiles but ended up being shocked and repelled by their extreme self centeredness and belief that their needs and wants outweighed any harm done to a child or to anyone else.

Comment by Bobby

This is ludricous. There is no data supporting the idea that a pedophile has a higher recidivism rate than any other violent criminal.

Congratulations on all your logical fallacies, though!

Comment by Cindy

The answer to this is simple, and cost effective. If you are convicted of the sexual exploitation of children, the punishment is to be surgically neutered, not chemically neutered, surgically neutered. This way, convicts can go back into society and support themselves, and we don’t have to. Has anyone seen how a male dog acts around a female dog in heat? Once they’re neutered, the urge is completely gone.

Comment by Linda

How can you say once a pedophile always a pedophile? Do you not believe that everyone deserves a second chance to change their lifes. Obviously you do or you would not be stating that Murders, burgular, etc can reform. But you are not willing to give someone else a chance to rebuild their lives. No you would prefer to have someone that you can always the evils of this world on. Yes I have known pedophiles in my lifetime, and there was only one incident. So in that incidence they have reformed their lives. Or how about someone that was dating someone under age the parents knew about the relationship they had, and when the couple split up that is when the charges were filed. Yes it was wrong that he was dating someone underage but he should not have been charged as a sex offender because the girl got her heart broke whether it was her doing the breaking up or not.

So yes pedophiles can be reformed, if given the chance to do so.

Comment by don canard

The statement about pedophiles is most likely true. All research points to that. This is why many catholic priests are pedophiles. They feel the attraction and know it is wrong. If they grow up in a religious environment, they are likely to believe that god will help them. But of course this is not true. They are put in touch with kids and end up abusing them.

This is what religion does to people. And yet, some quote from the book of myths like the following one. How sad.

>
> In the Bible I read, somebody can be forgiven of their sins, but they still must face the earthly
> consequences of their actions. If the laws on the books say death to pedo’s (which I whole-heartedly > agree with), then that’s the consequence for their action plain and simple. Even David, ‘a man after
> God’s own heart’, committed sin, was forgiven, but it cost him dearly on earth…

A pedophile is someone who loves children.
The diction for pedophile is simply an adult who is sexually attracted to young children.
Let’s see where the word Pedophile came from.
Pedo- a combining form meaning “child,” used in the formation of compound words: pedophilia.
-phile
a combining form meaning “lover of,” “enthusiast for” that specified by the initial element: Anglophile; bibliophile; demophile.

So a pedophile is someone who simply loves children, is sexually aroused by children, and greatly appreciates them for thier beauty and innocence.
Therefore a child-abuser, or a child-molestor is not the same, sure some pedophiles are also child molestors, but it should be also stated that to be a child molestor you don’t have to be sexually attracted to children.
The thing I want to point out the most is if someone was really a pedophile, meaning they actually love children, they would never do anything to hurt one.

If that was too long for you and you didn’t want to read it here is the shortened version:
This FOX thread is made up of ignorance and lies.
Bad people should get what they deserve but when you just state “Every pedophile should die” that’s a bit too harsh and makes you no better then Hitler himself.
Oh, and good day to you.

Pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated, but murders can? It must be true because Lis has told us so. Thank goodness we have an expert on law to explain to us the realities of psychology. I’ll accept this as fact without any other evidence or statistics to back it up. Thanks for the insight Lis, mind throwing us any hints on the origins of life? I’m really curious about that one.

Seriously, I hate this crime as much as anybody, but if we’re going to have any hope of cleaning up crime in this country we really need to start looking at facts and results and stop blindly following our emotions.

It is a proven fact that pedophile’s can not be reabilitated just managed. As a retired police officer who investigated these kinds of crimes against children I can only pray that eventually some justice will be applied to keep these individuals from turning young victims of this crime into future criminals.

Anyone who has raised children knows that during teenage years they experiance rebellios behavior. Two nights ago, my granddaughter, because she had her cell phone taken away she stormed out and walked for blocks and through very dangerous neighbor hoods. Within this neighborhood there are at least two registered sex offenders. She is 15 years old and we all know that is an age that is going to slam doors or storm out of the house. I care not one whit about weather a pedophile can be reabilitated. It is not worth risking the life of our children so that pervert gets a chance. Like most families the mother works. What has become of us as a nation that we can no longer control these sickos. What has become of us when we spend so much for grown up toys that both parents must work. If my daughter fails in raising her child then nothing else she ever does in her life will matter. No extras they buy as a family… and they are many will ever fill the void that will be left if a pediphile instead of an uncle had not found her. New cars and flat screen TV’s and golf games do not a family make. For a little while two nights ago my grand daughter was in grave danger. She spends each day home alone while both parents are at work and both parents spend and yes, for her also. I know that I am not the only grand mother that faces this double problem. I started my evening meal about 3:00 yesterday. My husband and I do not suffer a weight problem. I cook from scratch. Healthy meals while the cook in her home goes by and picks up fast food. The granddaughter now faces a weight problem. Just want ot say welcome to my world. Do not kid yourself…it is your world too. the only thing I might be able to do something about is the pedophile. If we as a nation do not wake up I fear the future we face together. At one time we could stay at home and take care of our families and watch out for our children and just ate red beans more often than not. When one can look back with fondness on the children raised within a depressed USA. Where poor families all worked together, prayed together, and were thankfull for just a roof over thier heads and enough food to survive as the good old days it is a sad comentary for this nation. The one thing we can do something about is put the pedophile behind bars forever while we struggle through the rest of our life as best we can……A Really Concerned Citizen

Given that such stidies have proven that once a pedophile, always a pedophile, why don’t we give them an option. They can stay here in prison (mandated to be served in the general population, where their surviuval rate will be small) for 50 years, or stay here for 5 years, then be deported to Iraq or Afghanistan, where they can serve to build the country for others, and where they’ll be summarily executed for any crime against children…..it would cut our costs of imprisonment, and would also serve the higher purpose of helping others who need the help, with the addede protection that they would be removed permanently from this world if they transgressed.

I am 52. I spent 30+ defending this great Nation. I have seen how other governments protect and defend their citizens. Children are citizens. They are our future. They deserve more protection than any other member of our society. No American should allow any person foreign or domestic to harm our children. This is a sacrimonious standard and we should not tolerate anyone irreparably harming our children. I propose the following:

All convicted pedophiles become involuntary organ donors. This way their life will have some meaning and they pay back to society for the life they ruined. This way lives are actually saved. One is ruined, one life is taken, but many can be saved.

This can apply to murderers.
This can apply to thieves. Any thief who uses deadly force to impose his/her will and itimidate to take what is not rightfully theirs, is not a thief. He/she is a TERRORIST.

Terrorists, make very good organ donors.

Same with drug pushers. Do we want to tolerate this or not?

Remember - this started when the rights of women trumped the right of the child. The lives of our children have less value than the the birth right of women. That is why some are confused…..we actually vetted into law the right to massacre our children for convenience. Does this not make us barbarians?

These type of problems will go on and on until we are all fed up with the lawyerese spoken in our courts that defend crimes to our children by defining them as diseases and focus on prevention and treatment. I do not care nor do I want my tax dollars treating these souless people. I want their organs in the inventory for distribution to law abiding citizens!!

I am a police officer and a few years ago attended a specialized interview and interrogation training. The instructor was an author and researcher who related a story that still disturbs me. He was interviewing prison inmates for research and happend to meet one who was incarcerated because he was a convicted pedophile. The inmate stated that he was participating in court ordered counseling and treatment as part of his sentence. When asked how it was going the inmate stated that it wasn’t working. The inmate asked my instructor if he was married or enjoyed a sexual relationship with adult women. Puzzled, my instructor said “of course”. The inmate asked my instructor if having a counselor or psychologist tell him that his sexual attraction to adult women was sick and wrong would make him lose his desire for them. My instructor said “no”. The inmate said “now you know where i’m coming from”. The sexual desire for children is to the pedophile what a normal sexual desire is to the rest of us and that makes them highly dangerous to our society.

these people need the death penalty when they have DNA–catch them dead to rights or have video etc evidence–and not a death penalty that is 10-30 yrs away–i dont want my tax dollars to keep them breathing in this life—frank castle get a grip–the media isnt ruining this creeps life–his choice did him in—obviously the cops had info from the guy to find her–take your bleeding heart elsewhere—and i am a dem–and it is dusgusting that there isnt a feeral law when these states dont step up–jessicas law was a start but we need to execute them–whether or not the child is murdered—anyone who thinks that they havent effectly murdered the child has obviously never seen the long term effects!!! if guiklty they should be in the afterlife in thirty days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is not an across the board thing but in the mentioned instances ther is no other choice–the judges just keep letting them back out–and lets remember that on average they have already gotten away with things a pprox. 100 times before they are caught the first time!!!!!!! execute them!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pediphiles that have been convicted beyond a reasonable doubt should have no rights whatsoever. Thanks to the likes of judge Dowd and Cashman and many more judges of the same ilk we have these people walking the streets and preying on children.
It seems there are many highly educated people that say there is a cure for this “Illness”, but these same people except no responsability if they say the person can be freed and another child is molested and/or killed by the same person. It’s high time the officials in our legal system carry out the wishes of the majority of our population and execute these pediphiles that have been convicted of murder and put the rest away for a life of prison and hard work to pay their room and board.

The line is that a pedophile KNOWS what they do to childern is permantly harmfull, and THEY DO IT ANYWAYS!
Liz is right in that any person who can cross this line is obviously anti social in nature and needs to be quaranteened from society for society’s protection.
States that insist that the criminal mind can be altered, especially in the cases of pedophila and rape, are living in a fantasy world. I guess Vermont is just one of many.

Veronica,
Are you out of your mind ? Pedophiles are not born to be pedophiles. How dare you
attribute this evil to God. God does not create evil. Evil exists in the abscence of
righteouness. We were given a free will and some people choose to do what is wrong
even though they know it is wrong and then will use every excuse to excuse what they
are doing. Even contributing their evil doings to God by saying God made me that way.
It does not come out in the wash.

There doesn’t seem to be an answer, but something has to be done.
Would it be possible to have petitions signed and have it get on the ballot for the people to vote? say a petition was generated that suggested death for first offense pedophiles/child molesters. take the vote to the people? the downward spiral of the morality in this country can be directly traced back to the banning of prayer in schools in the 60s. you can follow the trail of destruction from there. the ones that were in school then are the pedophiles now. the trampling of morality began then and why not? if there is no God then there are no absolutes, and if there are no absolutes then anything goes! School yard shootings, kidnappings, beatings on you tube, the list goes on endlessley. Pedophiles should be considered open season for anyone that happens to stumble upon their reprehensible behavior. i for one know that if someone abused one of my children, they would never get their day in court.

It is also tragic that the kidnapping case of Johnny Gosch has never been solved. Johnny was kidnapped at age 12 into a pedophile ring in 1982. The FBI won’t investigate and only works to cover up details of these crimes. In 2006, Johnny’s mother began getting pictures of Johnny bound and gagged when he was 12-14 years old. Many of these pictures are from a Russian pedophile web site. Go figure. Dirty pictures of a 12-year old boy kidnapped from West Des Moines, Iowa, end up on a Russian pedophile web site 24 years after he was kidnapped. I think some agents of our government and some law enforcement officers who dragged their feet on this case should get the death penalty. That would be some justice for Johnny Gosch.

I definitely agree to strict punishment for those convicted of such horrific crimes (including castration or even death). But the founding remarks of this blog that once a sex offender always one is not correct. Those people still have a choice the problem is, that they have commenced something that is not only one of the most horrific crimes to humanity there is, but it is addictive just like drugs. All forms of pornography are addicting. But that does not mean the person does not have a choice. It might be incredibuly hard and take years, but it is still a choice they made. Do not get me wrong I definitely believe in harsh penalty for such despicable acts but their acts is always a choice unlike the blog statement saying once one always one as if no choice existed. Some responses even suggested it was a gene defect. Choices affect who someone becomes. Someone is not born a theif but instead choices such a course. The same is true with any crime even the most heninious.

I, too, would gladly put a bullet through the head of anyone I caught in such a heinous act. And on a jury, I would passionately defend anyone else who took the same action to save a child. But I also recognize that demanding an absolute death penalty for all cases is a reaction of hatred, no matter how justified or instinctual. Our laws cannot be based on hatred, and they should never be absolute.

The protection of our children is paramount. Does the death penalty really provide an effective deterrent? Or does it only drive the next pervert to murder the child he just abused? If we know that these sick individuals cannot help themselves, then we must also recognize that fear and desperation are powerful motivators.

Our number one goal should be to prevent the next crime, not just react to the last one.

Quote: “Luk 17:2 It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. NEED NOT SAY MORE?”

Actually Jesus was not talking about children but BABY CHRISTIANS! If you offend a new born Christian, it would be better that a millstone were tied around your neck. it all has to do with the “Blood of Christ.” It’s value and the sacrifice made.

There are many sex offenders who have repented of their sins and are covered by the blood of Christ. NEED I SAY MORE?

This whole issue is a very emotional one, as evidenced by the posts filled with threats, hate, and threats of violence to anyone convicted of a sexual crime. The fear, anger, and disgust are understandable when discussing sexual crimes against children; the assumptions and conclusions are, however, quite irrational. The media for years has presented most horrific cases of this nature. Thus, the majority of people only have what information is given them by the media. I doubt many people actually research a subject such as this to see if indeed there may be programs in our nation that ARE having success in rehabilitating those convicted of a sexual crime against a child. However, it is much easier just to want to “get rid” of the problem, i.e., death penalty for all sexual offenders (regardless of age, specificity of the crime, etc.). Focusing only on punishment for those convicted actually detracts from searching for solutions for why offences happen and how to prevent them.

This is hate breeding, it serves nothing,

Yes the guy is a scumbag and the argument to shoo him is strong

Yes their is salvation in the lord

The questions what is to be done with him?

I agree with this 110%. Pedophiles should be put on an island and left to die

Lis Wiehl, you should be ashamed of yourself. Typical media spewing propaganda. First (and unfortunately I find it necessary to have to say this….if I don’t you will all think I am pro-sex offender; so up yours, I am not!!!) I think those who commit any crime against a child should be punished very harshly!

Now, for the facts. Sex offenders have the proud distinction of having the SECOND LOWEST rate of recidivism of violent crime. See the United States Department of Justice. It’s their fact, not mine. They have the second lowest rate of recidivism….second to Murder. Likely because murderers are in prison for life.

Second fact (again, see the US Department of Justice); the VAST MAJORITY (97%+) of sex crimes are committed by family or acquaintances of family. Hmm…makes you wonder why all these wack job politicians thing tightening laws on sex offenders is a good thing. After all, the guy in this case is a FREAKIN’ SEX OFFENDER. The ankle bracelet and 2,000 foot residency restriction and megan’s law website didn’t work did it!?!? ALL of this legislation creates a false sense of security.

Everyone who supports Jessica’s law with the arbitrary punitive laws should be ashamed. You all got suckered in by the politicians and media thinking this was a good thing. LOOK at Iowa and California. Since implementing their respective version of Jessica’s law, the rate of “failure to register” skyrocketed! Did it really help protect the public.

You should all be ashamed.

it is really very simple, vermont is ” the pediphile state “. and it is the ” pediphile state ” by choice.

you do not hold the judges, or the federal and state senators and representives accountable for

the way they handle the crimes and punihment in theses situations. you keep voteing for them, and

and allowing them to be appointed. you the citizens are the problem, you enable this to happen.

when have you ever sued in federal court re : this corruption and violation of the civil rights of these

children? the children cant vote, but you can!!! you are the problem, become the solution, or stop

crying about being known as the # 1 “pediphile state ” in the u.s. i look forward to the ” election-

results ” in the near future. my money say”s you wont change a thing!!!!!

You should take all pedophiles and pay the Russian government to contain them in Siberia for the rest of their lives.

As a victim of sexual abuse and son of a pedophile, I can attest that a pedophile cannot be rehabilitated or fixed by any type of social, behavioral or psychological therapy. There is only one way they can ever change. That is the power of the blood of Jesus Christ. Any and All pedophiles should be locked up for life upon their first offence!

I agree that “once is always” for sex crimes involving children. However, does anyone know if castration (of males only of course) has any effect on repetition?

Comment by Dan

As a former corrections officer, I learned that the average age of a criminal who leaves his life of crime is 40 years, except one, a pedophile. They never stop. There were quite a few pedophiles in their 60s and 70s in the joint.

know of a couple who met on-line married.he is a pediphile. she has 2 young children under 16yrs of age still at home. yet this woman thinks with her head in the sand. meaning she is thinking of her need for sex instead of her children. now she lives in USA. as this she chose this pediphile over her children. can y’all believe a mother would do this? as he can’t get into Canada where she is from because he is a pediphile/regiseted sex offender. good this pediphile isn’t around her children. yet as a mother sure can’t and don’t understand a mother giving up living with her children and living with a pediphile insted. boy this world has some”Stupid” people in this world.

How can anyone NOT think these people need to die?? Children are precious, innocent and they are the greatest. As a 6′ 3″. 275 pd man, take your chances with me. Touch my kids… you die. Pedo’s ruin many lives but as long as we live in our lawyer friendly society some moron will want them to be “rehabilitated.” Comical. Apparently being gay is genetic. Being hetero = genetic. Pedofile…take a course and you’ll be rehabilitated and change your warped sexual preferences…. ..??? Screwed up cranial wiring. I don’t want to pay 35K a year for tons of years to keep a pyscho alive !!!!!!

Hard to understand not only the one doing the crime but the state of Vermont. Why hasn’t this guy been locked up and the key thrown away?

No way, young men are listed as pedophiles after young girls lure these boys in. The girls 12 years+ pose as 18 years old+, they dress like older women only to have sex etc.. They know what they are doing and get perverse pleasure out of getting these young men in trouble and screwing up their lives forever by having them prosecuted and put on sex offender lists. These girls should also be held accountable for their actions. If children can be tried in court for murder, at the young age of 12, these girls need to be responsible for representing themselves as being of consenting age.

Instead of animal testing (when it has been proven that it doesn’t always give good results because of the DNA not matching) why not test on Child Molesters?? Animals don’t have the same DNA we do so animal testing is stupid (look at Vioxx, for example). Child Molesters/Sex Offenders are human, at least in DNA. Alot of good could come out of it. Child Molesters would be off the streets and a cure for cancer could be found! What else are they good for anyway?

Purely for purposes of dissent and to stimulate discussion I submit the following: we might be reacting to the feelings of powerlessness in the face of a mass media/culture which sexualizes and vulgarly exploits young people by demanding death penalties for pedophiles. Possibly these people were victims themselves; possibly we should be actively developing new cultural standards and enforcing them with regard to portraying young people. Also, I think we should honestly stop to think that possibly our conception of what a “child” is and what an “adult” is needs to change. The age of majority is 18, established in a time and place when maturation rates were very different than what they are now. It is common knowledge that our female children especially are physically changing into adults much earlier than before, probably due to diet. Isn’t it time we recognize how vulnerable we are as a society as a result of this? Aren’t our laws lacking relevance? We could do much more than simply clamp down on pedophiles, although I agree the kind of men who rape and harm young children cannot be allowed to wal
