Barack Obama’s Arrogant? Let’s Talk About George Bush…

By Bob Beckel
Democratic Strategist/FOX News Political Contributor

Karl Rove, my fellow contributor at FOX News, took a particularly nasty shot at Barack Obama in his Wall Street Journal column on Thursday, June 26. Karl’s central point of attack boils down to this: Barack Obama is an arrogant, self-centered, egotistical politician whose entire campaign is for and about Barack Obama. Rove cites the use of a presidential looking seal displayed at a few of Obama’s speeches (quickly abandoned — fortunately) as a sign of Obama’s arrogance.

Rove returns to Obama’s arrogance again and again in the piece, suggesting, I assume, that this is a disqualifying personality flaw for someone who wants to be president. For Karl Rove, who was the “architect” of George W. Bush’s election and governing strategy, calling another politician arrogant is like suggesting Al Capone was a model citizen.

No president in modern times, or for that matter maybe since George Washington, has been more arrogant than the current occupant of the White House. Obama may have erred with his faux presidential seal but the end result was embarrassing but harmless. The arrogance of George Bush has, on the other hand, cost precious lives, treasure, public confidence and American good will around the globe.

From his delayed fly-over of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to his refusal to listen to the likes of Colin Powell on the dangers of going to war in Iraq, Bush’s arrogance has been catastrophic to our nation. Bush’s narcissism and self centered personality flaws is borderline psychotic. The damage to those who suffered from Bush’s impairment is incalculable.

It’s not just the dead and wounded from his “I’ll prove Daddy was wrong” war in Iraq, but also the resulting financial burden his refusal to pay for this folly will have on every child in America. His arrogant disregard for massive deficits resulting from tax cuts for his rich friends (remember when Bush jokingly referred to his rich friends as ‘my base’…it was no joke) has added more red ink to the nation’s accounts then all Democratic presidents in history combined!

Arrogance may be justified in successful presidents with concrete results to justify certain haughtiness, but with an incompetent chief executive like George Bush such unjustified egotism can adversely affect millions.

Successful presidents, even arrogant ones, as a rule surround themselves with highly competent people, especially in the decision to go to war. George H.W.Bush (daddy) in his war with Iraq had the advice of people who knew what they were doing like Colin Powell and Brent Scowcroft. Baby Bush surrounded himself with sycophants like the woefully inexperienced Condi Rice and Don Rumsfeld, who is a candidate for assisted living, but certainly not Defense Secretary.

Talk all you want Karl about Obama’s arrogance (the ‘good’ kind of arrogance I believe that is essential for successful presidents), but you should look at the pathetic arrogance of the boy you help construct first. If you do, the old saying about “people in glass houses” may make much more sense to you.

Why don’t you leave the President alone. He will be out of office soon enough and you will have another President to complain about.
I believe Obama is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. If I am wrong I apologize.

When are tyou republicans going to wake up Bush was and always has been arrogant but you people refuse to acknowledge this. The man single handedly ruin our ecomony, but uoy people continue to revere his incompotence.Nancy cohen is a perfect example of this. The comments she made are down right stupid.

WHAT IS PRESIDENT BUSH’S APPROVAL RATE? And THIS is what you wish to defend? And if you do, ask yourself why.

Comment by Midwest Realist

There is a big difference between arrogance and leadership. True leadership means sticking to your principles even if it means taking an unpopular position. In the past we’ve had “leaders” who have been more concerned about poll numbers and popularity. It was this approach that lead to the problems we face today. It is far easier to ignore problems that require action all for the sake of popularity. It’s like ignoring that tumor growing out the side of your head and hoping that it will just go away when in reality it just gets bigger and more difficult to treat. Sometimes treating a cancer involves disfiguring, life altering surgery and chemotherapy that can be absolutely brutal, but it is what is required to rid the body of that cancer. Islamic extremism is just such a “cancer” and President Bush is like the physician who has had to tell the patient some painful treatment is required. It makes him an easy target for those who won’t (or don’t want to) accept the fact that the war on terror involves making difficult decisions and then sticking with them because in the long run they are what’s right. What many refer to as “arrogance” is, in reality, the practice of true leadership. Granted, many mistakes have been made along the way, but like the practice of medicine, fighting global terrorism is not an exact science. Too many in this country are too short-sighted to see the big picture. It is imperative that global terrorism be addressed before it destroys our way of life. President Bush aptly pointed out in his address to the nation shortly after 9/11 that this was a war that would be waged over several years and administrations. Thank God (yes, God) that he has had the resolve to keep his focus on the long term goals in this fight. History will eventually judge President Bush as a president who had foresight and fortitude and understood the nature of the threat of global terrorism and wasn’t afraid to make unpopular decisions. (rember, Abraham Lincoln wasn’t popular with everyone during his presidency either) I just hope and pray that the next administration is able to keep the focus on those long term goals and continue to lead, not follow polls. Obama, unfortunately, seems to lack that leadership.

just seen the “factor” on fox, they did a segment on the woman who sang the “black anthem” instead of the National Anthem… what the heck is a black anthem and WHY do blacks have their own anthem, whats up with that???? since when did blacks have their own anthem????
this sounds like a wright/obama deal here and i figured she did it for bo.
after watching the factor it was evident to me that she specifically lied to the people who invited her to sing at the event. she sang that black song cause she was black and didnt have a connection with the US, just like michelle o.
come on people is this what we want … the next thing will be bo will insist on singing the black anthem if he gets to be president…
so beckel this is for you … how in the world can you be for this guy????? and you complain about President Bush is arrogant, you are so misguided

Comment by James Campbell

I beg to differ with the use of the word “arrogant” in your description of Mr. Bush. To me, arrogance is a child born of intelligence, albeit an unattractive child. To explain; a smart person can recognize what they’ve accomplished then, unfortunately for all, take too much pride in the achievement, thus displaying arrogance. An ignorant person, on the other hand, has no idea of what he’s accomplished, whether good or bad, and allows others to convince him that he’s done something larger than life. The inflated display may look like arrogance but’s it’s not. It’s just another facet of common ignorance. The person displaying the trait is nothing more than a mynah bird repeating the implanted phrases. The real arrogance lies with Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, and Karl Rove. These three self-important (deleted expletives) convinced their empty-headed mynah bird that his Emperor’s New Clothing was a sight for all the world to behold in awe. It takes nothing more than a commoners point of view to see the nakedness of ignorance and the evil that wove the fabric.

He bob your rich and rich friends can decide on who his rich so who is last time I checked im not so am I going to be taxed by Obama and your crew. Oh and one more thing the pay roll tax he is thinking about don’t do it because that is for businesses and we need that not taxed at all because that is the workers money there.

Comment by Everose

Oh really guys…… the real reason for Bush going to Iraq was the oil. Not the mass murders or anything else that was initially given as the reason. If that were so, why did not the US go into other areas of the world where genocide was taking place? I agree with Bob’s assessment of Roves stupid statements. I can’t wait to see the back of George Bush who has done nothing to improve relations between the US and the rest of the world.

reply to bob Another republican line bob, your president said on national television, that we started operations in Afghanistan to bring down the Taliban and to bring to justice the man behind 9/11 Osama Binladden. Now did that happen ? No , did he bring Osama to justice? No, and again on national television he a few weeks later stated. No one threatens my family and or my Father, and gets away with it, (talking about Saddam) . The great setup, getting everyone to sway his way, or atleast trying to . when that did not work he started talking about nuclear capabilitys and uranium enrichments. as well as weapons of mass distruction, Sound familair bob, (Pakistan), To further make my point that republicans heads are in the sand. You say that everyone 40.000 and under do not pay tax. Well bob I make 28.000 per year 300.00 per week out of that comes about 160.00 in tax, Yes I said tax bob. does not leave allot to buy with. And yes some people like yourself could say, maybe you should have chose a different line of work , well if it was not for people in my line of work drawing the pay i do you would not have highways to drive in comfort , or parking lots for your car. or landing strips for air travel. Amazing how that works bob. And bob i will trade my pay scale with the wealthy any time, as well as the tax that goes with it , stop whining. and finally bob and this is the most simple of things, Clinton things were good, Bush things are worse than bad, did you see the Stock market today, are you going to blame that on George Washington. I can tell that the republicans are for the big guy, and not the common people . you all talk the same game ,you are running scared, but let me set your mind at rest , nothing not even republican tricks can get them in office for I would say a very , very long time, because the common people are fed up . thank you

Obama plans a 1 TRILLION dollar tax increase over ten years and dress it up like tax cuts what a joke!!! He also wants to extend health insurance to illegals with our money! See how smart this sounds—He will notify terrorists with in seven days of the start of an investigation into there activities. Where is the mans brain it scares me, sounds like he should be put in a rubber room not the White House. Americans better wake up before it is to late, and the clock is ticking! And our do nothing Congress will support his crazy plans. We the people should be in charge, you and any one working in our goverment are there to serve the people and stand up for what we want! For the people, and by the people is the only way this Country will stand and OBAMA IS NOT THE MAN!!!!!!! The time is now STAND UP AND MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD!! It just may be your last chance.

Comment by Bob

This is amazing, the disregard or selective use of the facts in the comments. We went in to Afganistan to topple the Taliban becuase of the relationship with Osama. The reasons for Iraq were related to terrorism, indirectly related to 9/11. The issues are bigger and were left to fester on the previous administration and the law and order approach. There are three significant state upports of terrorism, Iran, Iraq, North Korea. An approach was developed for all three. Iraq had a track record of using WMD. It had a track record of making WMD. It had contacts with terror outfits. It had documented contacts with Osama operatives. Every major power believed Sadam had WMD. Now after 9/11, what would you do to a substantial perceived threat. North Korea was approached with the 6 party talks (so much for unilateralism). Europe was tasked with negotiating with Iran, (they proved SO cooperative). Having an army on the border with Iran could provide leverage.

The direct costs of the war is not trillions. It is not a death sentence (4,000 killed out of 140,000 stationed and even more rotated through, we lost more on D-Day in one day). Today, with and effective military strategy, the insurgency is failing… WE ARE WINNING. Was the war prosecuted as effective as it could be, no, hint… they never are…. Read the first months of Korea, look up Salerno or the early days of the North African Campaign.

Economy…. Presidents get the glory or the blame, goes with the territory, but look at facts. Congress, the Fed, and the PResident all set up circumstances that encouraged home ownership the added to the bubble. People speculated, banks cleared loans they shouldn’t, people asked for laons they shouldn’t have. Foreclosures in most places are due to loans that people should have taken and banks shouldn’t have given, criminal - not likely, moral - likley not, unwise - definitely. Millions of jobs lost - unemployment is still lower than through most of the Clinton years. Taxes lower for everyone… most under $40,000 per year don’t pay income tax. The “Rich” pay over 60% of the taxes collected, while being under 20% of the population.

Most of the good things that happen under Clinton were proposed by a Republican Congress that was worthy of the name. The Republicans that lost the congress are not worthy of that name by being interested in power more than principle, but then they are mostly politicians. The congress they through out were for similar reasons.

Gas would be cheaper if we were allowed to exploit the resources we have: ANWR, continental shelf; and the Fed actually worked for a stable dollar. Alternative fuel is a nice concept, but it gets the lions shareof subsidies and still is not economically viable. Don’t expect much until it is. I hear a lot about wind and solar, but that doesn’t make my car go. Solar gets tricky at night also.

Comment by Craig

Bob, you are arrogant. Barack is naive. McCain is trustworthy.

Bush isn’t running and it confident. You just can’t accept it because Democrats are never confident and Blame America First.

Comment by steve

This is in reply to the one EMC person, Your remarks about mass murders in Iraq justifying our war there, How do you justify the lives lost in NY, on 9/11 by knowing who was behind it, going into Afghanistan,( kind of), making a left into Iraq, under false claims of weapons of mass distruction, leaving Osama a window to escape from, they have yet to bring him to justice, they never found any threat to the united states in Iraq, other than the fact we attacked them, how do you as an American justify that? The lives lost in NY seem to have been at the bottom of the list for bush, and his hatred for Saddam at the top. I am a red blooded American true to the bone, but what Bush did or the way he did it is wrong, Had he went in and captured Osama, brought him to justice, he would have had full backing in going after Saddam. But the route Bush has taken has cost lives, trillions of dollars, made us the most hated nation in the world, the most untrusted nation, the list goes on and on, I hear allot of smack talk about when Clinton was in office, and how we cannot afford another Clinton in office, but for those of us that make less than 30.000 dollars a year, well we were doing pretty good , there was not allot of foreclosiers going on, fuel was high but manageable, cost of living was good, Bet you cannot say that now. All in all whether you choose to believe it or not, this president will go down as the worst president in history, the man who went after a bear and shot a rabbit. One president had an affair, SO WHAT, the other president destroyed a nation, that being the U.S.A, You go on living in your fantasy world, of how great this president is , but keep your eyes on the millions losing there homes, there jobs, there dignity . I wonder if our citizens can go into forclosier due to over spending, can the United States do the same, funding a war with money we do not have? think about that tough guy

Comment by Ken Menzies

Whether or not Bush is arrogant has absolutely no relevance here. The issue is about Obama’s arrogance. Attacking the credibility of a source of criticism says absolutely nothing to the merit of the criticism. That’s simple logic. Mr. Beckel insults the intelligence of us all by making such an attack the anchor of his defense of Obama. If such a lame retort as “your boss is worse” is the best he had, then one should really worry about the character of the man he’s defending. In a way, Beckel’s chosen angle of response is more potentially damning of Obama than what Rove said.

Comment by Toneo

Bob, try to compare Obama and Bush even with his flaws is nonsense. For one thing he is not running and two, he has kept America safe so liberals like you can spend time finding faults in someone that actually does more than talk. Obama is a great talker but talking won’t keep this great country safe.

ohhh and btw beckel…. bo is arrogant, if you would come to terms with the evidence you would realize that Mr Rove is correct in everything he said in the article… come on, did you see that “presidencial seal” he was using.. how much more arrogant can he be. well lets see how about the “clinging to guns” statement.. pretty sicking huh… ohhh and arrogant too. ohhh and btw i took offense to those statements… but heck im just a “typical” white person.
one of the reasons i change the channel when you come on fox network is that, time and time again you are faced with rational evidence of bo arrogance and dumb policies, and especially the rev wright issue and you choose to ignore these things or you try to explain them away. stop with the bo coolaid allready !
you could learn alot from Mr Rove

Fox take this guy off the air he is so far out there that he makes me and others change the channel.

It seems pretty clear that ‘arrogant’ is just code for ‘uppity’.
I’ll retract that analysis as soon as right wingers agree that ‘confused’ is not automatically code for ‘too old’.

Comment by P Cogswell

Thank you for writing what I and many more citizens think.
Bush is the ultimate in arrogance and self-importance.
No leader should ever impose a self-righteous attitude on the world.
No leader should send thousands of young men and women to a self imposed death mission as Bush did to fight a war that was not warranted.

No leader should create an economy where the rich get richer and the poor and middle class get poorer and lose their jobs and have to live in an economy where rich oil people get richer on their inability to pay at the pump. Worse, big Republican donors made billions on this war. Who was he supporting? Not the families who sacrificed their sons and daughters but the big donors such as Halliburton and Blackwater to make more money. He hides behind “religion” yet Jesus taught Peace and Love thy Enemy. Did Bush do that? No, he did not. How, then can honest truth seeking Religious conservatives back this?

Comment by Brian M.

Bob, when are you going to get over your resentment toward Karl for winning TWO Presidential campaigns and you led one of the biggest landslide losses in Presidential campaign history?….and don’t go off and blame Fritz.

Comment by Douglas

Bob,

No, let’s talk about Obama. George Bush isn’t running. Your beginning to sound like a Kool Aid drinker Bob.

Comment by EMC

After reading your argument, the only solid backing you’ve provided for Bush’s arrogance is the war on Iraq. I’m amazed that the media seems to forget that Saddam was participating in genocide. Apparently the Kurds and disapeparance people who stood up to Saddam aren’t worth fight for. All you’re article has amounted to is a tantrum.

Nothing G.W. has done is “catestrophic” for this nation. We still enjoy our rights. We’re still free to travel, worship, and purchase as we wish. We have food and social programs readily available. The pure fact that you wrote this article without fear of you and your family being sent to prison is testament on just how good we have it here in the US. Every 4-8 years we have a new presidency without any bloodshed. Yes, things here are certainly terrible here. Let’s invite the folks from Zimbabwe, Darfur, Iran, and Russia and have a big ol’ pity party because we in the US have to pay $4 a gallon for gas and are involved in a war that some don’t agree with. Yes, we are in dire straights, so please excuse my while I walk to the store without fear of being raped for my conservative beliefs.

Comment by Rachel

I believe history will eventually recount George W. Bush as the first US President with a) a true understanding of the strategy required to at least begin solving the problems in the Middle East, and b) the integrity, tenacity and humility to pursue the correct course of action despite unimaginable opposition at home and abroad from people who, themselves lack the courage, foresight, and concern for humanity that is required to do what needs to be done.

History won’t have much to say about Bob Beckel.

Comment by Dawn

Did I miss something or did George Bush’s name suddenly appear on the ballot? Mr. Beckel you are an idiot. This isn’t about Bush or your idiotic hatred of him. Obama IS an arrogant, elitist. Rove pegged him right. It would be wise for you to compare the two ACTUAL candidates if you must.

Not that I want to appear to agree with you in any manner, but everyone in both parties that spends their life inside the beltway and those that are close to them are arrogant. They all think they know what is best for us and we cannot make a single decision for ourselves.

Get a grip Bob! No one could do anymore damage than Slick Willy did in his 8 years! We absolutely had no hope of catching anyone or prosecuting anyone that remotely resembled a terrorist during his tenure. So as far as I am concerned none of the choices we have had for president are worth a dam and this couple of idiots running this time are not any better, in fact they are worse than both Bushes combined! Sad Sad situation for this country!!!!!

Interesting piece full of half truths, few facts, lots of hyperbole.

The tax cuts didn’t cause the deficit, tax reciepts have gone up since the tax cuts. Spending, in particular social welfare spending increases have been exceeding the rate of inflation.

Of course that could be said of most of the main stream media.

I love how Fox News allows liberals to write columns for them but make sure those who write them are complete idiots. Keep writing Mr. Beckel, you expose the liberals for what they are.

Comment by Bill Templeman

The tactic of justifying bad behavior with other bad behavior is always used when there is no justifiable excuse for our own bad behavior. This knows no party bounds. It’s a matter of political spin. I don’t agree with you, Bob, on many things, but I respect you for your political dialog and you make no bones about “the spin”. Sure beats someone trying to pound sand where the sun don’t shine! I would certainly take exception to the “arrogance” issue being a good thing in any way shape or form. Call me naive, but I believe this to be one of, if not the major reason for the arrogance, disconnectedness, selfishness and refusal of the congress (both sides of the ailse) and executive branch to listen to the people. This is certainly reflected in approval ratings polls. After all, servant leadership is what it’s supposed to be. I know this is disconnected from reality, but it doesn’t mean it’s not right. When will it end? I’m afraid I don’t see an end to it. So where do we go from here except to drive our great country right into the dirt arrogantly smiling all the way because “we’re right” and “they’re wrong”!

Comment by Dave

The point his is supporting Bush or not, an opinion column is not free license to throw out vitrol. There’s a lot of hateful words here, but no analysis to back up any opinion state here.

The two examples given, “delayed fly-over of New Orleans” and “refusal to listen to … Colin Powell about the dangers” are really weak. Both could show the opposite as well. A presidental fly-over is purely symbolic. Are you sugesting he’s arrogant because he didn’t show up and wave the flag? Your second example suggests he arrogant becuase he received advice regarding dangers, yet decided to proceed anyway. The function of a leader is to weigh the incomplete information you have at the time and make a decision. You’ve provided nothing that shows arrogance here, besides Bush disagreeing with you.

A professional reporter is expected to do better than resorting to old shool yard style taunts.

WOW, a lot of venom out there. A couple of points - does anyone really think that the policies of GWB have been the reason there hasn’t been another terroist attack in the US? If so, you’re delusional. People who completely disagree with the policies and messs that GWB has gotten us into, aren’t Bush haters, we just hate the things he has done to this country.
Obama may be arrogant and probably should be to run for president. By the way, all of you Bush supporters, what does it feel like to be a complete minority in this country? Imagine what it will be like when you loose the White House and Congress in Nov. You’ve had your time these past eight years and you blew it - now it’s our turn to right all the wrongs of the past eight years.

Hey Bob…..the question was about Barack Obama, not about your hatred of the president!

Comment by Adam

Bob, at some point you may use your salary to buy a clue, but it appears as though you haven’t yet. Barack is an arrogant elitist who used reverse racism(affirmitive action) to get ahead. I can’t wait for the day when I can vote for a minority for president. In my opinion this country is long overdue for a leader who is anything other than a white male, but Obama ain’t the guy.

Comment by Troy

I am so tired of hearing “not one attack on American soil since 9/11″

How about the truth, only ONE major attack on American soil during the Bush terms.

I don’t know why Republicans think they can start the SAFETY clock AFTER 9/11 when their party was supposedly “protecting” us. THEY KNOW NO SHAME. Bush dropped the ball, don’t give him a pass, people died!

Comment by Bill

Obama isn’t running against George Bush. He’s running against John McCain. John McCain is not George Bush. The argument about Obama’s arrogance is MORE than a crock - it’s an ocean-full. To believe Obama is Presidential material is to believe that Pooh bear can run the government.

Why Fox News continues to use Bob Beckel is beyond anyone’s comprehension. The famous, “The republicans can’t win” comment that continues to spew from his mouth while he gets red faced and angry over Obama comments does provide a bit of comedy though. Bob, it’s up to the politicians to continue to try and use Bush to get themselves elected rather than running on thier own merrits. You job in the news is to compare and contrast McCain and Obama for us. This is why we watch Fox News. If you want to brainwash the masses with the tripe you post in this article, I think NBC is hiring.

The difference between Obama and Bush is like night and day. Obama is a condescending, arrogant man, who has little concern for the common people and for the truth. Bush is a principled man, albeit, a bit stubborn, but at least he has character. There is a difference between the two, but they are alike in that both are politicians and try to get elected. Bush will do and did what was right, Obama follows polls and not very well at that. He stands up for the far left and Bush tried to reach across the aisle, to no avail. Bush seems to care about God and what He stands for, but Obama has to stretch to bring God into any of his conversations. Thus the remark about the “gun-toting, bible-thumping” people, which ticked me off so bad, I went and bought a couple of more guns and bibles. Yes, Beckel, there is a difference though you liberals don’t want to see it.

Comment by CW Hanley

Lets settle this once and for all. George Bush is NOT running for re-election. Whatever one thinks of his presidency is irrelevant. John McCain is NOT a Bush clone (his record clearly shows that), and Barrack Obama is NOT the second coming of John F. Kennedy (also well documented). Now, can we please look to the FUTURE? In case you have not noticed, we have a war and a pretty serious economic problem to deal with.

Comment by Dan Colgan

Bob, You’re an idiot….

Comment by Jerry Allsman

Bob, Barack Obama is arrogant.
How can one characterize an entire group of rural people as bigots clinging to their guns and religion, and not be conseidered arrogant.
Barack Obama claims to be the unity candidate that will work across the aisle. Then, he runs political ads directed at youth, which appears to show a scantilly-clad teen getting out of bed with her boyfriend and leaving him in the middle of the night because he has a John McCain poster on his bedside table.
Obviously, the Obama campaign is depicting to young people that Republicans are not to be considered as persons with whom one should even associate. Now, that is a real unifying ad; the model of bipartisanship. Don’t you think so?
But of course, God forbid anyone should mention his associations with domestic terrorists in Chicago, and the likes of a racist Pastor. I think it is pretty arrogant that he thinks he is above being judged according to the people with whom he “hangs”, then portrays the message to young people that others will judge them for “hanging” with Republicans.
If this is the “good kind of arrogance” that you see in Barack Obama, just drop the “hope and unity” nonsense of the Obama campaign which the Democrats are so pitifully displaying.

Comment by Brian from Texas

Well done Bob.
The point we should get from this article is “why is anyone paying Karl Rove to write Obama bashings?!!”
He is the furthest thing from responsible journalism. I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fans on FoxNews.
Bob is saying, that it’s fair if Rove wants to say or write something in defense of his boy Bush or the Republican party. But Karl Rove writing and talking trash about Obama is just an uninteresting and biased rant.
Karl Rove is not a journalist!!!

Bob, are you saying Obama will be like GB,if so then I would support him. I do not believe our President is arrogant but can make a decision on what is best and stick to it regardless of the politics involved. Obama has already demonstrated he is indecisive.

Alas, I’ve lost what little respect I had for Bob Beckel after his planting the “whitey” story on FOX. I once believed that Beckel might have been the last trustworthy democrat in existence. Sadly, he is just another left-wing tool. Anything coming from his mouth , including this post, is now suspect as simply more BDS(Bush Derangement Syndrome) and should be judged in that light. Too bad

“For Karl Rove, who was the “architect” of George W. Bush’s election and governing strategy, calling another politician arrogant is like suggesting Al Capone was a model citizen.”

Some feel that where Obama’s from, Al was - or at least the model for the political machine. ;?P

AN ARROGANT PERSON CANNOT STAND CRITICISM, FOR OVER SEVEN YEARS ALL I HAVE SEEN ARE NAME CALLING OF THE GREAT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA GEORGE W BUSH
AND NOT A SINGLE TIME I HEAR HIM COMPLAINING OR DEFENDING HIMSELF AND THAT SHOWS HIS
GREATNESS AND HUMILITY. AMERICA IS BLESS TO HAVE HIM AS PRESIDENT IN THIS TRYING TIME.
REMEMBER, A GREAT MAN’S CONVICTIONS WILL NEVER UNDERSTOOD BY ORDINARY SELFISH ARROGANT GROUP OF PEOPLE.

No man I know of is humbler than George Bush, he’s taken all sort of the most vicious and unwarranted criticisms from people like Bob Beckel and instead of responding to their lies and exaggerations has simply gone on doing the right thing in stead of the popular thing. He spends little time or effort in countering the critics and instead devotes himself to doing his job.

Bob, you really shouldn’t complain about GWB’s glass house while building your own from manure.

Thank you for your clarity Bob Beckel.

Ole “Battlin’Bob” the Democrat’s spinmaster is at it again. Where was all of the Bush arrogance immediately after 9/11 when we attacked and decimated the Taliban in Afghanistan? Where was the arrogance when we attacked and toppled Sadam in Iraq? All the “brave” Democrats were behind and supportative of President Bush at that time(Oh, I know Mr. Obama, who, I suppose at that time, was out “organizing a community”(i.e knocking on doors to see if the occupants were receiving all of the government benefits they were eligible for) in his world renowned “Presidential Training Program” was against the action. The other Democrats only turned against the Iraq war when the going got tough. The same thing is true with regard to Afghanistan. As long as success is easy the Democrats are all on the team. When the going gets tough the Democrats’ get gone. I wonder if Lincoln would have attacked Fort Sumpter if he had know what would follow? I am sure it was the ancestors of the present day Democrats who were paying people $300 to serve in the Union army in their place. It would have been arrogance on the part of President Bush and his administration to have said, “Gee this is going to be tougher than we thought…lets play Democrats and leave the Iraques holding the bag.” That would have been arrogance. Arrogance is looking down your nose at the people who were strong enough to face the heat of battle and, who, if given the support needed, will be successful
in Iraq and calling them people who hide their fears behind their bibles and guns. Of course, a real arrogant individual would only do this behind closed doors while talking to a group of elitists in San Francisco…while believing that none of his comments would get beyond the walls of the room.

Bob’s lost his ever-lovin mind. Whether or not Barak is arrogant is up for debate, but to try to claim that G.W. Bush is arrogant is just plain petty and silly. Let’s look at Bob’s examples and see where he [Bob] went wrong.

1) Bush’s fly-over of N.O. after Katrina. The President has stated repeatedly that he waited because he did not want to get in the way of relief flights comming into N.O. Only a lunatic liberal would consider not wanting to distract attention and resources from those providing aid to be arrogant. Most reasonable people would consider it as a sign of respect to those actually doing things that are helpful to the people who need help. What would the President have been able to do to help anybody in New Orleans with his presence. I was on the third Air Force transport aircraft into N.O and flew out a load of patients that same night- I can tell you personally that the President would have gotten in the way, and I’m glad he waited.

2) Not listening to Colin Powell about going into Iraq. Again, the President had to balance the dangers of going in against the dangers of not going in. Every country on the planet was saying that Saddam had WMD’s, and we couldn’t risk terrorists getting their hands on any sort of WMD’s (and we did find Anthrax and mobile weapons labs, enriched Uranium and the centrifuges to make weapons grade material, and Sarin and Mustard gas- maybe not the stockpiles of WMD’s that people were expecting, but nobody’s been able to say what happend to the stuff Saddam had, and he was able to start a WMD program back up whenever he wanted). Hind sight is great, but not useful when making a decision here and now. Bob would probably criticize the President if he did listen to Powell, not go into Iraq, and some terrorist attacked a crowded area in the US with nerve gas that Saddam turned out to have had. In Bob’s world, the President is wrong regardless of any decision he makes (sounds arrogant to me- Bob, not the President).

3) The tax cuts “for the rich”: Bob is playing the most tired and wrong argument of the left. The tax cuts passed in 2001 helped get the US out of a recession left by Bill Clinton, and the tax cuts of 2003 helped bring in record revenues to the federal government. Those tax cuts also spurred massive job growth and economic expansion. Just ask anybody who was put back on the payroll and given a job due to the economic expansion if they didn’t benefit from those tax cuts. Bob is just playing on class warfare, and it’s rather juvenille (he overlooks the fact that everytime that taxes are cut, the economy expands, jobs increase, and revenues increase as well). Bob should be pushing for more tax cuts, because the “evil rich” (the ones who provide just about every private and government sector job in this country) take the money they save in taxes and re-invest it into their business to make more money (any it takes new jobs and more labor to expand business, which is good for everybody). If Bob actually looked at the amount of taxes the “evil rich” payed, their percentage of total revenue into the federal government went UP after the tax cuts were passed (so much for benefitting them, huh).

I can’t help the President on the defecit spending, though (aside from fighting a two front war against muslim terrorists- which I’m proud to have participated in). He did oversee the biggest increase in entitlement spending in recent history. Just think how great a shape we’d be in if we didn’t increase spending along with our revenues.

“….but you should look at the pathetic arrogance of the boy you help construct first….”

Wow, Bob Beckel! Good thing you’re calling a typical white person “boy”! There would be riots in the streets if Carl Rove had called Obama “boy”!

Comment by Lee

You are right Mr. Beckel, George W. Bush is very arrogant, but so is Barrack Obama.
Carl Rove’s calling Obama arrogant only proves that it takes one to know one.
I do not agree with you that arrogance is a good quality … I think it’s anegative.
The distinction is that Bush is on his way out … and if Obama wins, we will be stuck
with another arrogant President for 4 to 8 years!

Incompetent?? In seven years there have been no terrorist attacks on american soil. Iguess all you lib types don’t care about americans though. You’re too busy worrying about what the rest of the world thinks . That in itself is a form of self centered narcissisim that plagues nearly all you left coast commie types.
