Attacking Michelle Obama
By Bill O’Reilly
Host, “The O’Reilly Factor”
There have been a number of newspaper articles saying that some Republicans are going to go negative on Michelle Obama during the upcoming campaign.
“Talking Points” believes that would be disastrous for the GOP if it happens, and FOX News political guy Frank Luntz agrees with me. That’s because independent voters will decide who will be the next president, and many non-ideological people do not feel comfortable watching a candidate’s wife get hammered, unless there is some kind of smoking gun — a large smoking gun.

Some will not support Barack Obama! Michelle Obama is one reason!
The presidential race may be topic A, B and C in Washington these days, but some people are just too busy to think about it — particularly, it seems, centrist Democrats from conservative districts, who aren’t exactly eager to align themselves with Sen. Barack Obama.
Rep. Travis Childers, elected just weeks ago in a Mississippi special election, hasn’t endorsed anyone in the presidential race yet. “We have had our head down at work, trying to get our feet on the ground up here,” said Childers’ chief of staff, Brad Morris. “The presidential politics just has not been on our mind.”
Rep. Heath Shuler, a freshman Democrat from right-leaning North Carolina, has also been too busy to endorse. After Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton carried his district in the North Carolina primary, Shuler said he would cast his superdelegate vote for her at the Democratic convention.
I think it would be a great idea for the media to compile a list of questions that are OK to ask about Obama as well as a list of comments that are allowable.
Bill, you are an idiot. Do you realize how stubborn you are? Please, learn politics in an unbiased way, if that’s possible for you.
It is absolutely appalling and ridiculous that FOX NEWS has labeled Michelle Obama as a “Baby’s Mama” on more than one occasion. Only this form of terrible bias media would take a comment that this individual made about herself and use it as racial indifferent rhetoric. This phenomenal woman is potentially the next First Lady of the U.S. The day FOX NEWS refers to any female of the Bush family as anything but brilliant, will be the day all producers of the network are fired. It is really sad that FOX has to rain on the “change” parade. This network, commentators and producers have constantly denied the use of bias reporting, racist remarks and other allegations over the years; with such blind respect for the Obama family and viewers, do us all a favor and admit to all of the above. These sort of comments and expressions often prohibit many of us to claim that “we are proud to be an American” everyday
I cannot think of a more hurtful or regressive thing to do than promote racism like FOX does through innuendo and “mistakes”.
FOX should just announce full support for McCain and be done with it. Promote him for his benefits, but to mount an attack campaign around Obama’s wife is something that strays into Swiftboat territory. There are kids that watch FOX too, and instead of a young girl seeing that women can contribute to society, your show knocks them back into the past. How can I allow my child to watch FOX?
The first black man to be nominated for president, at his moment of victory bumps his fist with that of his wife, just like baseball players to after hitting a home run. FOX calls it a terrorist knock or something like that… what kind of person does that? Do you think it’s funny? In his moment of triumph you do this. I wonder how many at FOX put a pillow over their newborn little brother or sister’s face too?
If Michelle deports herself as Cindy McCain, and Laura Bush have, you may have a point. If she continues to make political statements she is a fair target.
How do you purpose to walk the tightrope ?
Are her actual words out of line to criticise ? Why is this election becoming soo PC
charged ?
Attacking Michelle Obama is a big mistake! Is there no negative to focus on so some are grasping? That’s what it sounds like to me. I think the statement made by Michelle Obama was overplayed as I don’t think she was hostile toward America when she said it. It was almost like a mother who was concerned for her misbehaving child and all of a sudden the child did something wonderful and made her proud! That’s all it was…so if anyone wants to focus on Michelle Obama, they will only bring attention to a graceful and charming lady…unless there is a side I haven’t seen. We, Americans, many times criticize our own country because it is us…we are America. Maybe they just really want to see Barack Obama’s reaction…still a bad mistake.
The DNC Did worst things they attacked Laura Bush and Ms Regan is many ways worse then what you claim RNC is doing they are using the words she says not herself.
Bill - As long as Mz. Obama is on the campaign trail giving speeches and voicing her opinions, she is fair game. The only problem will be how the “attacks” are done. They can not be ;ersonal attacks but her questionable statements have to be questioned and rebutted. She has said many things that can and should be discussed and these statements are a window to her true self as well as Mr. Obama’s. She has talked about some people having to give up more so others can receive health care and a college education. Who exactly are the ones she wants to take from and what are the qualifications to receive the benefits of others hard work? She seems to be very close to her husband and is very influential. She has injected herself into this race.
Are we to leave The Deity alone, then? Should BO be elected, does this mean that Freedom of Speech in this country is history?
To Eva Ritchey: when you suggest that Michelle Obama should “deport herself like Cindy McCain” are you suggesting she should have an affair with a married man? That’s what Ms McCain was doing with John, you might recall. I wonder if the original Mrs McCain is going to make any statements in the coming months.
Bill O’Reilly and others may be correct that it would be a mistake for Republicans, as a party, to attack Michelle Obama specifically and unfairly on any formal grounds without a smoking gun.
But, part of electing a president of the U.S. is a cultural thing. And most citizens want their president AND his wife to be gracious and to love their country. There is a growing litany of incidents, associations, and behavior on the part of the Obamas. For example, their long association with the completely anti-American hate filled Trinity church has YET to be sufficiently explained to suit most people.
If Michelle Obama comes across, through her personality, comments, and in other, ineffable ways, as arrogant, self absorbed, and resentful towards America for whatever her reasons may be, it is certainly within the rights of the electorate… that is, the voters themselves, to judge her. She IS a part of the package, and so far she has behaved somewhat like a snot. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. I can’t imagine here being the First Lady of this country. I don’t think I like what I fear she would like to CHANGE us into.
I’m sorry, but putting Michelle Obama off limits has just about reached my limit. When the lady plays the lady pays. I am so tired of Obama dictating what is and what is off limits. He is just plain arrogant.
Bill you and Frank Luntz are just plain wrong about this. No one in the press ever seems to get upset when terrible comments are made about Cindy McCain, Laura Bush or Nancy Reagan. One of the respondants to your discussion called Cindy McCain and adulterer. And just how does that person know that. Captain McCain was separated from his wife when he met Cindy McCain in Hawaii. And just how does this person know that they had any sexual affair at all. Now why don’t we just try to be civil for all the wives involved. If they get involved with what many would call hateful and envious remarked as has Michelle Obama then she is fair play. And her hate of America didn’t just start when her husband started his campaign. Just look at her thesis. She has always held views that are not in line with representing all the people. Taking from some to give to others is not exactly what I feel is representative of someone that should be a part of the new presidential team.
SINCE WHEN IS “EXPOSING” SOMEBODY AN ATTACK OR SMEAR? MICHELLE HAS EXPOSED HERSELF AS AN ANTI-AMERICAN RADICAL RACISTS WHO CAN’T MANAGE $260,000.00 ANNUAL INCOME TO MAKE ENDS MEET. SHE IS JUST ANOTHER SEEDY CHARACTER THAT BO ASSOSIATES WITH, THAT WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO NOTICE. YES, PERSONAL ATTACKS ARE WRONG, EXPOSING
THE FACTS SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY FOR ANY NEWS AGENCY.
I’m with James! ANYONE who campaigns for his/her husband or father (etc) is fair game. When you enter in politics (as M. Obama has done touring the country and speaking), she has placed herself on the chess board of politics. What she says, doesn’t say or how she acts SHOULD be discussed. Having been married 18 years (happily), I know that my husband and I are still happily married because we stand together on many social and political issues (with minor differences on the latter). If I were to campaign FOR HIM than I should be open to questions and scrutiny.
The press is PROTECTING Obama, covereing for him, and trying its best to elect our next president. It’s DISGUSTING that it has become a biased instritution that is no better than a government-run press.
As James posted, we should ask the (biased) media what questions are allowable? It appears that anyone who influences Obama and is a negative IS off bounds for questions/scrutiny. Bill, I suppose we shouldn’t ask Ayers, Rezko (sp?), Wright and anyone else who has INFLUENCED and ENDORSED Obama what they think!
Do you really believe McCain (whom I don’t support) stands a chance in HECK if the Left (and that includes 99% of the media) dictates what questions we may ask and to whom we may ask those questions?
Since the press is CAMPAIGNING for Obama, we (the voters) need to ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS of Obama. Knowing his character and that of his family’s MATTERS!
For good or for bad, Hilliary Clinton made the “First Lady” a political target by her activism from the position. If Michelle Obama chooses to play the role of a supportive spouse then she should be given deference. However, if she chooses the role of an active advocate much like Bill Clinton did for Hilliary, then she deserves the same level of scrutiny and should be taken to task in a reasonable, courteous, but no less direct way. Nobody even hinted that Bill Clinton should not have been questioned about his statements, why should Michelle Obama get a free pass if she chooses to actively campaign.
SuffolkVa:
You said “where there is smoke, there is also fire”? Do you also mean that when it comes to Mr. McCain and his “angry white man” temper that a “host” of his Senate pals have spoken about, or is this just “selective” fire? As for the “what” MRS. Obama wants to turn this Nation into, well, you might say that WE want to turn this Nation back into a place WE all can be proud of….instead of the “mess” we have had to endure the last eight years under THIS imposter administration….have a blessed day…..
Again it is important to realize that I am a native Canadian indian and I disagree with OB and his wife to a large degree ! I would like people to realize that he is a stupid liberal that has NOT produced any thing of value to society and he is NOT believable /trust worthy . HE WILL BE THE WORST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE USA! THERE IS ALOT MORE I COULD SAY BUT THAT WILL BE ANOTHER TIME ! I live in a very liberal society and it is getting very bad here .
The one thing I have to say about Mrs. Obama is just the truth. I find her to be a very homely woman, very unattractive. Goes along with his big DUMBO ears, I suppose. They will make a beautiful couple on the White House Christmas card along with the kiddies. God help us.
Why should Michelle be off limits? Obama maliciously attacked someone’s mother and wife throughout the Democratic Primaries; Hillary Clinton. He ridiculed her with unprecedented cruelty. He dealt her hundreds of acrimoniously sexist remarks bordering on misogyny! An Obama speech was not complete without his infamous Hillary bashing histrionics.
No deal Obama! Your wife is involved in the dirty politics you authored and the so called ” Free Press” co- authored.
I pray to God that this is the election where the American people stand up and shout; ” We have had enough of pandering candidates like Obama; dishonoring the Democratic process with the unilateral assistance of the complicitous and extremely immoral networks.” I was a Democrat; but now I am a Republican. Not one ounce of faith, do I have left for the DNC!

Would you allow a more balanced political comments? We find it so biased at fox to be always promoting the GOP ticket blindly. Common now we know Fox news is red and CNN blue but at least at CNN they promoye both parties’ opinions. Even when the situation is open ended, FOXNEWs finds a way to spin it. This is why wwe have found presidential hopefuls willing to go to other networks than coming to FOXNEWS. It is no brainer.
Don’t get me wrong, I watch FOXNEWS but I no longer want to watch Hannity and Combs or FOX and friends.
Thanks.
I’m a little confused I’m reading posts about how Bill is a jerk for attacking Mrs. Obama. But this article states specifically that Republicans shouldn’t do that. I think some people have only read the article title and not the rest of the article.
Fox news is not biased the same way MSNBC and other news stations are not biased. Or in other words Fox news leans right and many of the other stations lean left and it’s funny that people get pissed at FOX because their bias doesn’t agree with their own. However CNN which leans left is much much better than the crap which is MSNBC.
The problem is some far left / right morons do NOT know how to read and are just offended Bill mentioned Mrs. O in a news statement. We all know Bill is a big racist just read moveon.org or DailyKos.com or Huffington post they will all tell you Bill is Trash for actually being a jouralist not a propagandist supporting the far left / right. Some people are just to brained washed by there polotics to see clear facts and that is a big problem in this country as of late. OH and if you believe Bill is a racist you most also believe Katrina was planned by Bush to wipe out poor black people in NO. Laws of nature smart and fit survive / stupid and lazy parish just wish it were true in the human race.
negative is subjective, It depends on your point of view toward the person the statement is directed toward.
If a spouse speaks for a candidate, then they are open to criticism of their statements, not them personally.
One can make a satement that sounds personnal, but it may just be to make a point about their perspective of the person.
Like “-far left loon”
Would somebody burp these bleeding heart liberals! In order to stop their incessant crying for Obama and his wife Michelle. Obama is an arrogant narcisist and Michelle is not far behind. As Oliver North reminded us in his article, “A candidate for the Presidency refused to wear our Flag on his lapel!” Guess who? Michelle married Obama and now she is significantly involved in his dubious attempt for the Presidency.

Hey Frank, do you really think we care about what you watch, I watch Fox News all of the time because television networks do not carry both sides of the argument and CNN, also called the Clinton News Network, get real. Democrats don’t come on Fox News because they have no backbone and do not wish to be asked real questions, although give Hillary credit, she had the backbone that Obama does not have. So you watch CNN, CBS, etc because it is evident to me, that you do not care about this country, oh, and denise, grow up, I was proud of this country under any presidency and as far as the mess of the last 8 years, yeah, we fought back, something dems don’t understand and that has to do with a backbone, don’t you think?
please bill you love this stuff. all of you on the fox network or so anti obma you all would go after his little girls if you could. ihave said it before i dont know why they let you all stay on air ,you all or so full of hate
She is what she is and she’ll be what she’ll be until she gets what she wants and than we will see—
Funny how people change when they get in the drivers seat—I disagree with people that feel like everyone should be beautiful or handsome — I think that it is shallow minded to point physical flaws out ( after all we all have them ) Please people don’t be mean spirited —-
Just who is it that says this??? Just because someone(unknown to us) says that Republicans are going to do this doesn’t mean they are. It would help that we have facts before we accept the statement. A Democrat could say this just to get the story out there. It would help if the media stuck to the FACTS. By tossing out these little tidbits stories build(like the phone game we used to play -you would whisper in someones ear a sentence and by the time it went around the circle it wasn’t the same sentence anymore. It is really ashame that we have this going on-there are too many really important issues to discuss and yet a so-called fact is what gets the press. After all it was Bob Beckel who started the M.Obama rumor and last time I heard He is a Democrat-yet the Republicans got the blame. Now-who is using the media to their benefit???
Rita Fyfe must have had a double dose of the Obama coolaid. You are saying not to attack his wife and she goes on a rant about how biased you are. During the Kerry-Bush contest, you were so fair to Kerry I began to wonder if you were a democrat. By the way, my sister hated Kerry’s wife so much, she won’t even buy the ketchup any more.
Michelle Obama’s quote “For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country” should be a reason to praise her, not attack her. (and I don’t care who wins the elections) Her quote displays a spirit of sincerity and honesty that disappeared from our mannequin-like public figures long ago.
Is it a requirement to be republican biased to work for Fox? Is thwere anyone at Fox who says anything positive about Democrats?
