Working in the R&D lab for 8 years in atmospheric study, I must say that I'm shocked by the amount of brain washing that goes on in these forums. Yes raping the earth will have problems, it's just common sense.

The gas prices IS the biggest challenge for Americans, and the world. Take the time to look at what we are doing NOW USING to move from foreign oil and oil period. The answer simple "Natural Gas." We are using natural gas already in some government and private vehicles. North America has the largest supply, it is 95% less polluting, the present gas operating vehicle can be converted for about $2500. And Yes it meets the standards of California emissions. A real stimulus package would be assisting those Americans, like with the coming TV conversion, that need assisting. We are the people that elected President Reagan, that saved the world in WWII, put a man on the moon, it is time that we take the lead, not with words but with action. Natural gas is 75 cents a gallon. Do you think that would change the economic outlook, help people make their mortgage payments, put jobs back in the USA ? Don't list to me I'm an old retired Marine from Texas. ASK, T Boone Pickens, another great Republican that grew up in the Texas' suburb of Oklahoma and knows a thing or two about energy and success. Let him tell Sen McCain. GOD BLESS AMERICA & AMERICANS

A lot of Americans must be fools. About half of the population believes this junk science being jammed down their throats by the left wing media. I would like to see Al Gore debate real scientists, but that will never happen. He could'nt hold his own in a debate about the time of day.

Wake up fools!

Tim..may i remind you, in case you did not aleady know. Unlike english which has multiple meaning for words(ie the word blue can mean several different things.) In Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek(these are languages in which the Bible was written) there is no such luxury. In Genesis chapter 1, the word "Yaw" is written for day, which means litterally a 24 hour period of time. Also, on each day it says "The sun rose and the sun set" at the end of those days. Therefore, there should be no misunderstanding that it is meant a literal 24 hour period of time. In the context in which it is written, "A day is as a 1000 years to the Lord"..a different word is used for day. Before the fall of Adam and Eve, there was no concept of death because sin had not entered the world..so there was no survival of the fitnest..NOTHING DIED!!! These, as well as the scientific evidence is why it makes absolutely no sense to beleive in evolution and be a Christian..the two simply do not go hand in hand.

Thank you

The line of discussion seems to have morphed from "green" to "God" somewhere along the line. I believe in both creationism and evolution. Is it so far-fetched that God evolution and other natural phenomena to accomplish His will? I don't think so. Did God create the heavens and the earth? I say yes. Did he create them in 6 separate 24 hour periods? Not necessarly. Could God have created them in 6 24 hour days. Certainly, but that does not mean that He did so. The story in Genesis is just God's way of making himself known to what were then a relatively simple people, in a manner they could understand. God does not give us more than we are prepared to deal with.

Personally, I'm for God, and against green. But that does not mean I don't support conservation. I just don't support the agenda of the "greens." I believe conservation begins with the individual and not with the government. And turning our economy into that of a third-world country in the name of the enviornment is not the answer. You may ask what good is keeping our economy thriving when we can't enjoy our enviornment. I ask what good is saving the enviornment if no one can afford to enjoy it. Either way, Mr. and Mrs. America lose.

Climate is not weather. It is the study of broad trends in the weather over long, extended periods of time. We have not been keeping even unreliable weather records long enough to have any concept of what the climate might be doing right now. If we scrupulously keep meticulous and accurate records, we might begin to have a clue about the climate in say 5,000 years or so.

When most people talk about the global climate warming up, what they really mean is "It's hot today." But that is the kicak weather, not the world climate. Try to keep in mind the following:

Climate is what you expect. Weather is what you get.

Here's a game...

How many planks can you identify as planks or modified planks of the Enviro-socialist American Progressive ideology?

The 10 Planks of the Communist Manifesto
1.	Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes.
2.	A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
3.	Abolition of all right of inheritance.
4.	Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels.
5.	Centralization of credit in the hands of the State, by means of a national bank with State capital and an exclusive monopoly.
6.	Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the State.
7.	Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the State; the bringing into cultivation of waste-lands, and the improvement of the soil generally in accordance with a common plan.
8.	Equal liability of all to labour. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture.
9.	Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of the distinction between town and country, by a more equable distribution of the population over the country.
10.	Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labour in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production, &c., &c.[4]

According to the Communist Manifesto, all these were prior conditions for a transition from capitalism to communism.

Have fun kiddies.

So what is this Socialist/Marxist (American Progressive) tie to environmentalism that worries so many Conservatives and Moderates? As alluded to in the opinion piece, with the realization of failure within the Socialist/Communist nations of the world (Most notably the fall of the Soviet Union and the Capitalization of the Chinese economy), Western European and American Socialists/Marxist ideologs were in despair (If not despair, they were pretty darned depressed.) They needed a new venue to keep their dream of utopian collectivism alive, a way to insert and implement their ideology without calling attention to themselves as Socialist/Marxists. Environmentalism was the answer. It is the perfect vehicle, as has been already demonstrated, to subvert the Constitution, destroy Capitalism, and supplant individual rights in favor of collectivism. In answer/response to you statement regarding historically environmentally insensitive Communist regimes: for the American Socialist/Marxist, the environment is only the vehicle, not the objective. A powerful central government based on the ideals of collectivism is the objective.
Enter the prospect of “Man-made Global Warming”! A gift from the gods for both groups…the Kool-aid drinking true believer environmentalist who envision expanding government to achieve their own idea of “mother earth worshiping” collectivism, and the Marxist/Socialist (who may or may not give a hang about the environment) who envisions riding the wave of hysteria all the way to the Animal Farm (Only they’ll have all the bugs worked out this time, because they’re a lot smarter and more enlightened than the pigs…intellectuals like Obama, dontcha know?). A “February Revolution” for the Environmentalists followed by an “October Revolution” by the Marxist/Socialists. Hey, didn’t this happen once before?
Now that we’ve made the Marxist/Socialist link, let’s examine the allusion to Environmentalism as a religious movement. Environmentalism has had “true believers” at least since the days of John Muir and his original Sierra Club Congregation. Over the years the apostles of John spread the word and the church grew slowly but devoutly. However, little attention was paid to the harmless little cult. Then came the signs, the environmental crises of the 60s and 70s I referred to in my previous post. Had they not been prophesied? Why yes, by that funny little religion of John Muir’s. The following grew and grew until they could not be simply dismissed. Then, almost an emperor Al Gore, like a modern Emperor Constantine (Florida wasn’t on Constantine’s electoral map), needing to find the one true religion to unify his people declared Environmentalism as the official church of all Liberals and greenhouse gases the product of the great evil one. He held up as proof this religion’s greatness; the fulfilled prophesies of the 60s and 70s and put forth a new Prophesy, given to him by his greatest soothsayers. The prophesy of the pending Man-Made Global Warming Calamity. And Al spake, saying to the people, “We must change our wicked ways, repent and ask forgiveness of the mother. We shall follow the law of the goddess, mother earth and she shall be merciful and spare us her wrath. We shall sacrifice our economy, our Constitution, our Liberty and our Republic and remove all things unclean in her sight as proof of our faithful subordination to her. Anyone who utters blasphemy against these truths and our goddess shall be labeled “heretic” and shall be taunted, ridiculed, and shouted down into the irrelevance of the evil one’s abyss. Further, I and my priests shall maintain our carbon producing relationship with the evil one only insofar as it is necessary to promulgate the mother’s message upon all the land. It is as she has ordained. I have spoken. Let it be written. Let it be done…unless, we can get someone to make a movie. It can be done, after that.” Amen”. “Oh, great mother? Could you see it in your heart to let me win a Nobel? Thanks. Amen.”
Just like any religion, you have the clergy and prophets (environmentalists and credentialed environmentalist scientists), the political exploiters (Marxist/Socialist American Progressive political leaders) who use the church to achieve a political objective not necessarily obtainable without the support of the clergy, and the congregation of followers, who are faithful only to varying degrees but still go to church to keep up appearances, and just in case…! On the outside are the agnostics, atheists, and followers of other religions. For the record, I think most Conservatives and Moderates are agnostics, which is where I fall. We believe the truth is unknown and refuse to accept the implementation of drastic measures on the words of what may prove to be false prophesies. We believe in being a good steward of the environment and recognize that conservation and managed use of our resources are not mutually exclusive.
We believe that there may be a climate change, but the attribution of the source to a man-made greenhouse effect is dubious. There is empirical data and historical evidence to indicate that the change is a naturally occurring phenomenon of warming and cooling cycles attributable to various sources from solar cycles to our wobbling orbit. Who knows? The science is, despite all declarations to the contrary, still out.
So, what to do you ask. Since we can’t make technology happen any faster than it’s going to happen, there is no need to panic and implement onerous and destructive policies that will further imperil the Nation. In fact, I recommend, as other forum posters have previously, that much of the restrictive legislation currently hobbling our economy and threatening or national security be lifted. We need to drill, refine, burn, and split (atoms) our way out of dependence on foreign energy sources. We can do this with environmentally friendly technologies. New alternative energy technology will be forthcoming and it won’t take excessive taxation, unattainable CAFE Standards, carbon emissions rationing and offsets or any other form of negative coercion to make it come faster. It will come soon enough because everyone knows that fossil fuels are finite, even big oil and the automobile industry. And trust me, they are working as hard as anyone to be the discoverer of these new technologies and the manufacturer of the new vehicles. Why? Capitalism. That’s where the money is. A for whatever you think of that as a motive, we get the result we want and at the fastest rate possible. The best thing our government can do is turn the industry loose.

One simple question. why cannot evolution and the bible both be true? We all know that "seven days" does not necesarily mean 7 - 24 hour periods. In fact it is said that it was a much longer amount of time. so why cannot it have accured over millions of years? God can create anything. why can he not create evolution? to be honest if i was god i would create the natural ability to change and adapt. It would be more fun to watch from heaven:) Stop banging heads over this issue when neither one cancels each other out. You know the bible should never be translated word for word. A good example of why is that experts believe that the word "virgin" (refering to Mary) did not necesarily mean without sex, but rather it's translation would be more along the lines of just "young". But that change in your thinking does not mean that Jesus is not the son of god.
