Barack Obama Is Not a Christian

By Cal Thomas
Syndicated columnist/FOX News Contributor

Religion is a topic that makes most journalists uncomfortable, unless they can expose hypocrisy — as in preachers who speak of virtue while carrying on an affair — or outrage such as Rev. Jeremiah Wright and the doings at Barack Obama’s now former church in Chicago. Most journalists think taking religion seriously might require them to study the claims of various faiths and too many of them have already decided this might lead them to a faith higher than themselves or politics and they don’t wish to take such a journey of personal discovery.

That is too bad, because such an attitude exposes one of the main gaps between most Americans — who believe in God — and most journalists, who don’t.

An exception is Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cathleen Falsani, who interviewed Obama in 2004 for her book, “The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People “and asked him specific questions about his religious beliefs.

“I’m rooted in the Christian tradition,” said Obama, who has declared himself a Christian. But then he adds something that most Christians will see as universalism: “I believe there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.”

Falsani correctly brings up John 14:6 (and how many journalists would know such a verse, much less ask a question based on it?) in which Jesus says of Himself, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” That sounds pretty exclusive, but Obama says it depends on how this verse is heard. According to Falsani, Obama thinks that “all people of faith — Christians, Jews, Muslims, animists, everyone — know the same God.” (her words)

If that is so, Jesus wasted his time coming to Earth and he certainly did not have to suffer the pain of rejection and crucifixion if there are ways to God other than through Himself.

Here’s Obama telling Falsani, “The difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and proselytize. There’s the belief, certainly in some quarters, that if people haven’t embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they’re going to hell.” Falsani adds, “Obama doesn’t believe he, or anyone else, will go to hell. But he’s not sure he’ll be going to heaven, either.”

Here’s Obama again: “I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I’ve been a good father to them, and I see that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they’re kind people and that they’re honest people, and they’re curious people, that’s a little piece of heaven.”

Any first-year seminary student could deconstruct such “works salvation” and wishful thinking. Obama either hasn’t read the Bible, or if he has, doesn’t believe it if he embraces such thin theological gruel.

Obama can call himself anything he likes, but there is a clear requirement for one to qualify as a Christian and Obama doesn’t meet that requirement. One cannot deny central tenets of the Christian faith, including the deity and uniqueness of Christ as the sole mediator between God and Man and be a Christian. Such people do have a label applied to them in Scripture. They are called a “false prophet.”

I hope some national journalist or commentator with knowledge of such things asks Obama about this and doesn’t let him get away with re-writing Scripture to suit his political ends.

If Jesus is “…the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” and if Jesus said “I and the Father are one.” then it seems to reason that if you believe in God ( I mean TRULY believe ), no matter what religion you are, then you will also believe in Christ and his Word.

What is wrong with Universalism anyway? Is the idea that God spread his word through several different mediators so hard to accept? Christianity is NOT an exclusionary religion… it is a UNITING religion. So long as man has love and compassion in his heart (love each other as I loved you), he is uniting with his fellow man, Christian or non.

Why does it matter if Obama is a Christian. Just being a Christian does not imply a good moral fiber or high ethics. Many of the most despicable people have been Christians. Besides Christianity is just the latest incarnation of pagan sun worship. It was all made up at the Council of Nicea in325 A.D. Do some solid research and leave your incredulous thinking behind.
It matters not what religion our President belongs to. It only matters that he is not beholden to corporations or other countries. (i.e. Israel ).
Zionism is more of a threat than any Muslim. You people make me sick with your obtrusive attitude. You think you know it all, but it’s easier to see the truth when you stop assuming you’ve already found it.

Cal,
I ask do you know the content of Barack’s (Hebrew) Meaning “Flash of Lightning” “How might I ask do you know who or who is not a Believer in the Christ? The Holy Scriptures plainly say that God is the saviour of all mankind, escecially them that believe! especially them but, not exclusively them, He said all, and you say otherwise, so who do I believe you or God in His word? 1.Timothy.4:9, 10, 11.

Christ, died for all humanity, will His God, and Father give Him any les than He died for, might I ask?

I have been a student of the Scriptures for close to a half century or even more I am 70 years of age!

We have been taught lies in Christendom for nigh on 2000 years the false teaching was rampant while the Apostle Paul was alive, as He stated. more of the Holy Scriptures were recorded written by him than any other human, and he is the only one who has been to the third heaven and back taught by the glorified Christ, no other man has or can say such. Except God’s Chief Apostle Paul, the Apostle to the nations of the world!

I agree that being a Christian is not a requirement for the presidency; however, I personally value the presidency being occupied by a Christian. What is more troubling, is self-described Christianity without the beliefs that are fundamental to Christianity. One can say he/she is anything, but in a President one would hope for clarity to speech, beliefs and positions.

Not holding my breath waiting for the Fox News Headline: “Obama is not a Muslim,” which would be a lot of more relevant and accurate than saying Obama is not a Christian. “Barack Obama is a noble-hearted patriot and humble Christian” according to Senator Robert Byrd, but then he is not a great theologian like Cal Thomas.

Comment by scmtch

I think people are missing the point of Cal’s article. I do not see this article as bashing Senator Obama for not being a Christian, but for making a false claim about his religion. I grew up in a Christian household. We had devotions every night, went to church and Sunday School every Sunday, and I even went to Christian schools. I believed what I was told becuase I was a child. As an adult, I had to make a decision as to my religious beliefs. I had questions, I researched answers, talked to pastors, etc. I am a committed Christian, and I understand what my faith and religion are about. John 14:6 states that Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the way, no one comes to the Father but by me. Jesus did not say “I am a way, but there are many others, a truth, just believe in something” - you get the picture. This is not an indictment of Senator Obama’s faith, but it does raise concernas about a man who says that faith is a very important and very personal part of his life, but the same man doesn’t understand Christianity.

In response to Lance:

Your rant against Christians was simply sad. And secondly, it was WRONG on many counts and few of which I will address. First, Christians are HUMAN, therefore prone to mistakes. Those mistakes were made by man using man’s justifications not Christian principles. Romans 3:23-For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Christianity is about forgiveness. Christ’s forgiveness of our sinners through his sacrifice so that we might be save. BUT Christ also said, not all who hear will believe and therefore, we as Christians cannot force our belief on anyone else. But as Christians we ARE called to stand up for our belief and be counted. “If you are ashamed of me before men, I shall be ashamed of you before my Father” is a fairly accurate paraphrase. I can’t quote the actually verse at the moment, I am a little wound up about your hateful rant. Talk about intolerance. You liberals scream it but don’t live it. Talk about hypocrisy.
The second count that you are wrong on is that our founding Fathers weren’t Christians. That can be disproven a thousand times over by anyone willing to do their research. The true history behind separation of Church and State comes from keeping the government OUT of the CHURCH, such as was the case with the Church of England. The head of the church of England was the king who we all know throughout the centuries was NOT a fit ruler for the church. The intent was never to keep the faith in God out of the government. It was simply to keep the establishment of one religion through the govenment therefore allowing Christians freedom of faith in their choice of church. I really wish I could list all the documents and research papers that would prove my point but I don’t have the time and I sincerely doubt that a person as filled with hate as you would benefit from reading it anyway. So I won’t waste my time. Just know that I have a fairly good background in history and a pretty high IQ, so I’m not some redneck fanatic, but I am also smart enough to know that there are ignorant people out there who won’t go find the FACTS for themselves but will buy into the left wing rant used by liberal media to lead people further astray from the truth. I have known for years what mainstream media tells the masses is far from the reality of the situation. Just like our problems are created by George Bush. What a lie! Our economic problems are caused by Democrat blocking of new refineries for over 30 years and we cannot meet the level of production the US needs, they have hurt domestic oil production for at least that long. The complain about dependence on foreign oil yet won’t do anything that would allow for American production. They raised the minimum wage at the worst possible time to look good for the elections but it stalled the economy by raising the price of every single thing the American comsumer needs. Yeah, everyone wants to make more money but that’s not the answer, personal responsibility is. If you are trying to raise a family on minimum wage you messed up somewhere and it’s not everyone else’s fault. It didn’t help those low income people at all. The remain status quo because they make more but they spend more. It only hurt the middle income people like me who don’t get a raise but pay more for everything now. Oh yeah, I forgot, personal responsibility is a Christian value just like proper stewardship of our money. And while I admit that not all of us are terribly good managing our finances, it’s the leftist communistic side that convinces the ignorant that it is the governments job to take care of them. And lazy Americans are falling for it. It is just a step toward more Government control over everyone aspect of your life. Oh wait, the Bible predicted that it would come to this.
So said that there are so many out that that haven’t a clue about the truth. I’ll pray for you.

Who cares whether he’s a true Christian or not ?

Article VI, section 3 of the US Constitution says:

“no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. ”

So if someones religion promoted white supremacy would you vote for him. It is very important what someones religion is since that influences their decisions. If an American born al qaeda member won the presidency then yes he would have the right to be president because we couldn’t force him to take some religious test. But in reality no one would vote for him, because of his religion and how it influences him. Therefore it does matter what Obama believes.

Comment by Adrienne Terranova

Dear Mr Thomas,

I have read your article several times and most of the attending commentaries. Please correct me if I am wrong but I thought your premise was that very few journalists are Christians themselves and that Cathleen Falsani of the Chicago Sun-Times is one of those few and that she interviewed Sen. Obama for her book, The God Factor: Inside the Spiritual Lives of Public People. I could find no references to this fact from any of the responders. When a public figure is interviewed, it reveals many things about the person being interviewed. In this case Ms. Falsani asked Sen. Obama specific questions about his religious beliefs because that was the purpose of her book. His responses are telling; they also give us insight into his persona. It is my contention that the only way to know Sen. Obama is to listen to his responses and to juxtapose them against his actions. Quite simply, is he true to his words or are his actions and behaviors inconsistent with them over time. In addition, and perhaps even more important, is how his responses and behaviors stand up to the tenets of Christianity. After all we are discussing Christianity as it is, not as we think or would like it to be. The basic tenet of Christianity is that Jesus Christ is the Only Begotten Son of God, that he was born of Mary, that he suffered, died and was buried and that he rose from the dead. To be Christian is to believe in the Incarnation (God becomes man). If Christ did not become man, then man would remain estranged from God. Believing in the efficacy of the Cross redeems us and binds us to God so that we can participate in the resurrection. Without Christ’s salvific work on the Cross there is no redemption and no hope of resurrection. Mankind is being offered eternal life as a free gift; no other religion offers salvation through forgiveness as Christ offers it to ALL without coercion. We have only to believe, and live out our Christianity. To say that salvation is through other ways in this sense is false. Since Sen. Obama says he is a Christian and Christianity is based on the primary belief that Jesus is the saviour of the world, then Sen. Obama must accept the tenet. He cannot change Christianity to conform to his own rationalization of the faith and in that lies the rub.

tom-

Maybe the Bible has had some influence but it is still incredibly accurate. Put it this way people don’t question the works of plato even though the manuscripts they have for it are far less reliable. In most cases the Bible today is most likely very close to what it was when it was written. That doesn’t mean you have to believe it. Just please admit you don’t believe it because you think it’s wrong not because humans have changed it over time.

Here is a good reference supporting my claim:
http://www.carm.org/evidence/textualevidence.htm

Furthermore I know it would be hard to believe that Jesus wouldn’t say others are going to hell, but in fact he talks about it more than any other person in the entire Bible. I think the only thing he talks about more is money. And even if men had added parts in the early second and third centuries it is unlikely that all gospels and in all occurrences they added all those parts about Jesus talking about hell.

“God is really concerned about how you live your life, not which religion you perscribe to.” That is a really good point that I agree with. Jesus even told the most religious people of his own race that they were going to hell. But me being a Bible believing Christian believe no one lives their life worthy of God and that all are selfish, prideful and deserving hell, including myself.

Comment by Tony

The premise of the article is that only Christians go to heaven, and that is not up for us to say. Only God decides who goes to heaven and who doesn’t. Would a just God prevent a starving family in Africa from eternal paradise simply because they did not have opportunity to know Jesus Christ and read the Christian bible? If God is just, then this answer must be no.

By the way, the definition of Christian is someone who believes Jesus was the messiah, died and was resurrected. Obama appears to believe this. Since the Reformation there are many different forms of Christianity. Would one say that Calvanists are not Christian because they believe in predestination? Or that Baptists are not Christian because of their belief in sola fide or belief in sola scriptura? Or that Catholics are not Christian because of their belief in faith and works, or belief in Tradition? While some may believe other Christian denominations have elements of heresy, all are Christians with subtle differences between them, and it appears Obama falls into the Christian category with just a different outlook in some areas.

It is a dangerous path when man tries to decide who will go to heaven and who won’t. The Bible doesn’t say other faiths are excluded, only that Jesus is the way. It doesn’t say belief in Jesus is the way. What exactly Jesus means is up to interpretation. Perhaps he is the way because he so loved the world that he sacrificed himself for everyone, including non-Christians? “Noone comes to the Father except through me” could easily be interpreted as “Noone comes to the Father except through the suffering I will endure for everyone.”

As a matter of full disclosure, I am a devout Catholic. I believe Jesus is the son of God and suffered for all humanity. Exactly who is or is not allowed into heaven is not my decision, and that is actually the official position of the Catholic church. However, Catholics believe we have a playbook that we can follow to be guaranteed into heaven, which we call the Bible. That does not mean those who do not follow the Bible are excluded; believing so is simply faulty logic.

I consider myself a Christian as well. I certainly don’t believe Obama is a good choice for president. On the other hand, I certainly don’t believe that every single word in our various English translations of the Bible can be relied upon at the precise words of God or Jesus.

I’ve heard people use the same passage Mr. Thomas quotes and then go on to explain in very convoluted and strained logic how people who lived before Jesus or never heard of him could still have been “saved” somehow. It strikes me as odd that folks go to such extremes to explain text that’s gone through so many “adjustments” and translations over so many years. At this point, I think the Bible is mostly what the various writers and translators wanted it be. So, I believe its English translations in Mr. Thomas’ literal word for word way about as much as I believe that the Roman Catholic Church is the “one true religion”. While we can find some great guidance in the Bible, we can’t turn off our brains when we open the book.

The reference to “works salvation” in particular struck me. Isn’t that an age old argument ? Faith or works ? Doesn’t the argument appear in the Epistles ? While positive “works” can certainly be done for the worst of reasons. It seems to me that faith without positive works is pretty rare. Faith doesn’t prove the “goodness” of the works any more that good works prove the faith of the actor. But I also understand that I’m not the one to determine or act on or reward another person’s motives for their good works or their faith.

So, while I don’t criticize Mr. Obama for his religious beliefs, I do criticize him for his inexperience and what I believe to be an incredibly bad understanding of the United States’ values and economics.

I went to the original column of Cathleen Falsani with her interview of Obama. There were several issues that got my attention. Two of them follow and are direct quotes from Obama in this interview. Keep in mind that the year was 2004.

Quotes from Obama:
“I am a great admirer of our founding charter and its resolve to prevent theocracies from forming and its resolve to prevent disruptive strains of fundamentalism from taking root in this country.

These days, he says, he attends the 11 a.m. Sunday service at Trinity in the Brainerd neighborhood every week — or at least as many weeks as he is able. His pastor, Wright, has become a close confidant.

End Quotes

With it’s growing presence of Islam in the Black Liberation Theology movement, can not a case be made that it is a disruptive strain of fundamentalism? (Which actually explains Farrakan’s presence at Trinity and his association with Obama, Wright, and Pfleger.) Black Liberation Theology seems to be based upon the gospel of Luke and the statement Luke makes regarding the start of Jesus’ ministry as follows: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18-19)

Secondly, Obama stated when the Wright controversy hit the airwaves that he wasn’t in church on the dates that Wright was filmed, etc., seemingly making a case that he hasn’t attended that much. In the article it quotes Obama that he was in church maybe not every week, but every week he was able to be there.

Do some research yourself if you don’t believe what I state. There is plenty of information concerning the Black Liberation Theology out there. While claiming to be based on Jesus and therefore Christianity, it doesn’t have ANY resemblance of the Christianity that I’ve known and is preached by all of mainstream religions.

In my own personal opinion you cannot take one portion of what Jesus taught and make a whole religion on that. It for sure isn’t what the Apostles themselves taught and who better to know what Christ taught? To me, it is a false religion and Jesus warned us all about false religions.

Mr Thomas,

When you are writing such a piece, does the First Amendment to the Constitution ever cross your mind? You know, all that stuff about the free exercise of religion?

Or how about the origins of this country? Does it ever cross your mind that Europeans traveled the oceans in their pursuit of worshiping as they choose?

Perhaps you would like to judge not only the faith of Senator Obama, but maybe the faith of every American. And maybe you would prefer to have a renaissance of the Dark Ages, where you can crucify all those who don’t live up to YOUR definition of what is a suitable Christian.

God help us.

Frankly, Obama is not my idea of a leader. As a devote Roman Catholic, I would never vote for this man. I hope that R.C.’s, Protestants, Jewish, etc. can see that this man is no Christian! Anti-Christ comes to mind when I think of him. May God help us through this election.

After reading all these comments, my main observaton is that they show how scared people are that Obama is different from them. Step back a minute, reflect, and pray. That should do it.

Comment by Bob

The national definition of “Church” and “Christian” has changed since New Age thinking entered the religious debate. Older Americans have a more traditonal definition, but younger Americans do not like the black and white of “Old Time Religion” and its consequences. You see, they are victims of society and do not deserve the judgement, so now we “feel” like Christians and do not have to
“act” like Christians.

Comment by Ken Menzies

Whether a candidate is a Christian or not is not as important to me as if he is what he says he is. Obama says he is a Christian and yet clearly is not. Obama has repeatedly been given opportunities to explain things like his associations and his faith and he has pretty consistently given answers that either disappoint or puzzle. In this case he is revealed as someone who does not understand what it means to be a Christian but apparently likes the image it projects and associations it makes possible. Yes, in other words he is a shallow fake at best. He is a Machiavellian opportunist most likely.

Comment by Kane

I would never have the temerity to say someone is or isn’t a Christian. It’s not my place to question someone’s heartfelt beliefs in God. The very act of judging someone’s faith is contrary to scripture and against what America stands for. As a Christian and an American, I find it rather offensive that you choose to question the faith of Sen. Obama or any other candidate or any other individual for that matter.

Our country is facing numerous challenges. There are real issues to be discussed and debated. Why not stick to those issues, rather than lowering yourself to questioning the faith of another?

I am sooooo sorry at all the comments of those that think they know everything!!!!!!! Especially about being a Christian and our Lord Jesus Christ. Every word of the Bible is truly the word of God!!!!! And those that love to flap their jaws, need to wake up before its too late. It is pitiful that our wonderful country that was built on Christian principles and values is now turning around and believing anything and everything that is against Gods word. Andddd, if you want to know what He says because you havent at least listened, God has put his word out there and is available if your minds weren’t so filled with hate. If you don’t own a bible, then I would suggest you buy, borrow or go to the motel and read the bible put in all the rooms by the Gideons. But you better wake up. I may be badly mistaken, Obama may not be the anti-christ, but according to Gods word, I would almost bet that the end of time is just that near and its possible that he is!!! ANyone that is sworn in on the Koran, that sure does not say he is a Christian nor when you can’t honor your country by observing and showing the respect of our country by placing your hand over your heart during the Pedge of Alliegence, then it sounds to me like you are going to Hell in a Hand Basket and I sure don’t want someone like that in charge of our government, be it Obama or someone like him!!!!! Please WAKE UP before its too late!!! I love the Lord and I love AMerica and I love each of you.

If Obama says he’s a Christian….we don’t have to judge him. His “walk” and “talk” will be the testimony of his faith. You know…If it looks like a chicken, lays eggs like a chicken, and smells like a chicken….it’s probably a chicken.

If a Christian, doesn’t believe in heaven or hell, doesn’t believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and thinks that all people are connected by “something’s”…..if this is his testimony it’s not that of a true believer.

I’m a Baptist, but I’m not one who thinks that only Baptist are going to Heaven. I believe that anyone that has confessed their sins and asked God forgiveness are on their way to Heaven. Anyone that has had this experience will be able to see what Obama really is….either confused about what a Christian really is or someone who’s never had the conversion experience.

To the person who stated that 99% of Americans don’t care about whether his a Christian or not….think again. More than 90% of Americans claim to be Christian, so there are many people who care about what he claims to be.

I’m also concerned with his stand on Israel…..that will be very interesting for Christians.

Who cares whether he’s a true Christian or not ?

Article VI, section 3 of the US Constitution says:

“no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States. ”

So what if he isn’t… neither was Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Ben Franklin or many of the other founding fathers. That’s why the only mention of religion in the Constitution (twice) is to prevent the government from from any official religious affiliation. All those folks who like to claim we were founded as a Christian nation are flat WRONG. Go and read the personal wrtings of these individuals. The proof is there.

I’ll take someone who may not technically BE a Christian, but lives his life according to Christian values over our current President, who constantly reminds everyone what a wonderful Christian he is but soesn’t seem to know or live any true Christian values.

To me, if you constantly have to profess what a devout Christian you are, you must not live it very well. If people cannot figure it out through your actions, you aren’t, really, no matter what you claim.

Why are so many of the Obama supporters so hateful and nasty like Mary Faye? They are suppossed to be so “educated” and yet many of them come out as the ignorant. My opinion and I believe there are many others that share it, is that Obama is a total fake. He is a fake Christian, he is a fake American, he is a fake “honorable” man. The reason none of us really know what is true beliefs and ideas are is that if we did, no one with a brain would have voted for him. His famous retoric is so reminisent of another “great” speach maker. He was the leader of Germany about 60 years ago. Anyone remember?

If this snake gets elected, it will be a sad, sad day for America. I would like to add that I am not a “Jesus Freak” even though I do believe in Jesus and that I have been a life long Democrat - NOT ANYMORE.

Now Mary Faye you can stick this wherever you want to along with my Democratic Voter Registration card!

I am a conservative and a Christian who believes similar to Obama and take issue with your comment. The root of the verse you referred to that Jesus is the way, I believe was changed. You will recall that Moses was told God’s name was I AM. What Jesus was referring to, I believe was I AM is the truth and the way. The Bible was written by men and revised by men and i feel in some instances revised to tell the story the way they wanted it told. I have studied different religions and spent time in a Buddist Temple, trying to improve my conscious contact with God through meditation and believe me, there are many people of many different faiths who will qualify for Heaven.Jesus was inclusive and not presumptious enough to believe that His was the only way. Those thoughts were placed in his mouth by later men with Egos and an agenda. God is really concerned about how you live your life, not which religion you perscribe to. I would never votr for Obama as i think he is a radical left communist but I also belive that Chrisianity was hi jacked by a certain segment in the early days. Read the Gnostic books that were excluded from the Bibler if you weant to get a real sense of what Jesus preached.

I so appreciate this article and pray that the sensible, common folk in this country will see Obama for what he really is. The liberal left wing in this country are duping the people and we christians will have to suffer persecution for it. Putting christianity aside, any man who will stand on a platform during the pledge of allegiance and fold his hands in front of him instead of placing his hand on his heart, shows his true beliefs. It will be a very sad day if he becomes our nations leader. Shame on us, we deserve it if we don’t stand up for what is true, honest and what our forefathers stood for.

Communists are, almost universally, NOT Christian. Their “GOD” is the state and that’s where the little peole are to look for their salvation and care and feeding. This is an ungodly cabal, that is Obama’s contributors. They are anti everything American ie white, guns, GOD, capitalism and support abortion, gay marriage and huge government as a means to keep the ignorant and downtrodden captivated.
Follow the money and the fawning press who are annointing him. Look at his followers and fellow travelers.

Cal Thomas has hit the nail on the head with this article. Obama no mater what he says with his lips in his heart he is no Christian! This is proven by his own words. Anyone that knows anything about the Bible knows that the qualifications for being a Christian is to believe that Jesus Christ is the way and Christ himself says that he is the ONLY way to heaven. The word CHRISTian comes from Christ. This does not include the other religions in the world that do not believe that Christ is the only way to heaven.

Comment by John

Of course all the candidates profess falsely else they would pursue different vocations. The difficulty with all system religions is the “if you aren’t one of us, you will be in hell” mentality. Seems to me that the only “religion” we don’t see is the one that accurately teachs what the scriptures actually say. But we are to “judge righteous judgment” which simply means open your eyes and see what fruits the person is displaying. This has nothing to do with condeming them. Be a fruit inspector and begin with the “fruit” YOU are displaying. The article was objective in my opinion.

Hi Cal,

An excellant article. Obviously you are a Christian or know enough about my religion to speak with some authority.

I am constantly amazed that many people who claim to be persons of faith support the Democratic party and its ideals so vigorously. If one embraces their beleifs, then one agrees that abortion on demand, which is legalized murder of innocents, is okay. And Gay marriage is just fine and dandy although our Father in Heaven calls it an abomination and such persons shall never enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Jeremiah knew such people who claim one thing and practice another. The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?

The obvious answer to that rhetorical questions is - God knows it.

Keep speaking the truth, brother.

I agree…OBAMA is not a Christian.

The Bible says you will know them by their fruit in other words, they way they speak and by their actions. A true Christian would have not gone after Hillary with such evil intent as he did. The basis of the Christian faith is love in action. He slammed Hillary and has divided the Democratic party to the point where any chance of winning will be lost because of pride. If Hillary is not his running mate he doesn’t stand a chance to win against President McCain

Just calling it how I see it.

Boy Cal, with your hateful, devisive comments I am sure you are fulfilling your duty to attract others to Christianity. Can just feel the love of Jesus oozing from you! How can any non-Christian read your columns and not feel the hand of God at work. Maybe you ought to think a bit about your own salvation pal.

“Christians like to believe in belief in god; and that’s driven by fear.”
Sir, that is for good reason..

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding
Pr. 9:10

I’m not surprised that many. including Barack Obama say that I think God is this, or God is that. They simply break the the second Commandment: “Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.”

They do so by making God into who they want Him to be. So where’s the news here? : o /

Have you noticed the truely Christian folks commenting on this article stay focused on Obama and everyone else focuses on Conservatives? How hypocritical of them! This article is on Obama, not conservatives and their like. This is the true problem with the MSM and ignorant defendsers of it… they use bait and switch most effectively. Put conservatives on the defensive, forget that Obama has no right in running as a Presidential Candidate or that he is not a Christian.
Whether you like it or not… there is only one way to GOD and that is the beleif that Jesus Christ is the way. Oprah and the rest of disillusioned if they think a repackaged new age thinking sect is going to fly. Sad part is, apparently the Democratic Candidate has been derailed by this thinking. It really shows a true lack of a serious thought pattern and decision making process!
I don’t preach to people, but I know a hypocrite when I see one!

Name one true Christian, Jew, Muslim, or Hindu in Congress. I don’t care if you put your hand on a Bible, Tora, Quran, or a Monkey’s butt if your Hindu. When you steal from the American Taxpayer by Voting on Bill after Bill filled with pork, or signing these Bill’s in Law. And you accept payoff’s for Political Favors you become a Thief and a Liar to the People who elected you. Politician’s should take their oaths on a copy of the Constitution and a copy of The Bill of Rights. Only then, we as Citizens’ may be able to hold them accountable. Waiting for Eternity for these Criminals to pay for their transgressions is wrong. HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE NOW!! To single out Obama as a Politician who isn’t a Christian is like swatting one fly and thinking you made progress.

Who is a Christian? one is like Christ. God is Love..Many Christians claim to be a Christian, take on his name but they do and say things contrary to the teachings of Christ. We shall know a Christian by their fruit. Rather Obama is a true follower of Christ, I don’t know, I’m not a judge…Only God knows.. I do know that Bush, MSM and main stream religion have been part of the great conspiracy to mis-lead the American people leading up to the Iraq war.

Wow, it is amazing the lack of knowledge on Bible Prophesy!! You had better wake up and smell the coffee.
The Bible tells it all if you like it or not. Every Knee will Bow and Christ will return. If you think not having a Christian as a President is not important then you are in for a real surprise.
Especially one that does not even understand what a Christian is.
Thank God, Barack Hussein Obama will NOT be our President.
He still has not figured out how to be a good Senator! Voting NO on everything does not make you a
representative of your State.
His Closet is soon to be revealed and what a blessing it will be to see the “Real Obama” then he can go back to his church he loves so much and continue to sleep through the sermons.

Obama and Oprah believe the same way. This is a New Age concept in which they should not even claim to be Christian. Christian means a follower of Christ. Jesus’s statement in which He states that He is the only way to the Father clearly contradicts what Obama is quoted as saying in this interview-that there are many ways to God. There is only one way to the Father if you are a Christian.
The “New Age” concept of -we are all gods within- and we must find our path is definitely in the scriptures of what the Anti-Christ will be teaching. If you read the scriptures, you will see it is today’s headlines. earthquakes in different places, natural disasters, famine, drought, food costing a day’s wages, and people thinking there are many paths to god-just look within.
WOW!

Cal, if what you report about Cathleen Falsani’s Obama interview is correct, and I suppose it is, then you are correct: Obama is not a Christian. And anyone who twists Scripture to make it look like a person who holds these views is a Christian, is probably not a Christian and is in danger of the wrath of Almighty God, whose Son they have denied.

I find it interesting that Mr Thomas, a jounalist who one must assume from his own words does not believe in God, has chosen to quote scripture and label Mr Obama a non-Christian. Not enough space or time to challenge his reasoning, but wonder if he realizes that Mr Obama’s assertion that non-Christians can get to heaven is also a teaching of the Catholic Church. I guess that makes the Pope a “false prophet” and Catholics “non-Christians.” It’s a shame that Mr Thomas only chooses to study God/religion every four years and only enough to make some political statement.

Comment by Andre' Raymond

You could not be more correct!

It was interesting that Jeremiah Wright was mentioned in this article, and Ted Haggard was not.
Whenever I hear the word “theology”, Johnny Cash rings through my mind, ” The theologians were last and practically least”. Theology and Evangelism should be banned from the Christian lexicon. I am from the NorthWest, where we have a “general” cultural phenemonon called, “You stay out of my business and I will stay out of yours”. I typically find that those who are out there pushing hard their theology should not be, they tend to have alot of skeletons in the closet.
All persons should be banned from voting when they believe a politician who claims to be a christian.

*According to Falsani, Obama thinks that “all people of faith — Christians, Jews, Muslims, animists, everyone — know the same God.” (her words)* <—- So he never actually said that? how about we don’t put words into other peoples’ mouths. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

“I don’t presume to have knowledge of what happens after I die. When I tuck in my daughters at night and I feel like I’ve been a good father to them, and I see that I am transferring values that I got from my mother and that they’re kind people and that they’re honest people, and they’re curious people, that’s a little piece of heaven.”<— Sounds like he’s being fairly modest to me, thats a good core character value.

When did Jesus become a Republican? When did Jesus start driving a Cadillac Escalade? When did Jesus start riding shotgun on a Stratofortress setting up for an ordinance drop? The only act of physical force he took, that I can remember at this moment, was to kick out from the house of his father, money changers. And he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. Soon American Christians will have the republican donkey on a cross.

Whats an op/ed contributor who peddles schlock to do when he calls one person a non christian and three quarters of all christians can fall under the same category for the same reasons? Oh well, he doesn’t have to worry because those, “false christians” believe that if they want to earn their way into god’s grace, all they have to do is vote republican. And when they stand tall in front of the man at the pearly gates; and when asked if they worked hard to understand the word and walk the way, and did they develop their own personal relationship with god, they will say, ” yup, shor did. I did everything Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh told me to do.”

“The theologians were finally found out
Right down to the ground, that old jail house burned down
and the earth suffered perpetual drought”

Obama is just a part of the fulfillment of Revelations; my book ‘The Logical End’ explains in detail how Biblical prophesy was and will be coming to pass. Obama is not the false prophet……………the false prophet has already come and gone and has left a legacy that is causing strife over the Holy Land for hundreds of years and to this day.
